About this cottage rental

Little Dunbar was a traditional estate worker's butt'n'ben cottage but has been beautifully restored for 21st century living to provide this very comfortable cottage with two ensuite bedrooms (one double, one twin) with an open plan living area and a cosy woodburning stove. There is a cottage behind it but this does not overlook Dunbar and you have total privacy. The cottage sits in a clearing in a belt of mixed woodland, which is carpeted with snowdrops in winter and bluebells and primroses in spring. It is also home to red squirrels and a tuneful ensemble of birdlife. Little Dunbar Cottage dates back to the mid 700s and was probably being lived in at the time of John Paul Jones (founder of the American Navy), who was born nearby and there is a small museum down to the road to commemorate this. It is set on the Arbigland Estate which is an area of outstanding natural beauty and recognised as such in that it is designated as being in a National Scenic Area and a site of Special Scientific Interest - the fossils on the beach tell a tale. There are great walks straight from the door so very popular with both couples and families, and if you want to stay put, a delightful enclosed garden to enjoy BBQ's and to watch the setting sun with a glass of something. It is a 10 - 15 minute walk to a dog friendly beach. We get lots of repeat bookings from people who enjoy this very special bit of the Dumfries and Galloway countryside, the wildlife, the scenery, the birdlife (we are between two important bird sanctuaries - Mersehead and Caerlavrock), the beach, mountain biking, the golf - to name but a few of the many nearby attractions. It is a totally unspoilt region that revels in it's uniqueness that also attracts many artists who draw on it for inspiration. It really is the perfect place to get away from it all. Once you've been, you'll want to come back!
