"Cottage in the woods with everything we needed. The dishwasher was a lovely surprise. Warm in winter due to heat pump and dehumidifier "

About this cottage rental

Self-contained affordable cottage in rural settings Spacious for 2, still enough space for 4 adults, extra kids ok. Freeview TV + Free Wi-Fi. Pine forest and native bush for kids to play with plenty of space to explore.
Incredibly private, surrounded by pine forest. 100% rural, yet only 15 minutes drive from Wellington CBD.

Quite warm now with heat pump, log burner and oil heater so you'll be cosy even on coldest days.

Please note this is rural and somehow quirky bach, not a hotel. If you prefer humming city and 4+ star accommodation you might enjoy more staying in one of Wellington hotels. This is reasonably priced bach for people who like outdoors and rural. No public transport nearby (closest bus stop 4km walk over hills) and the nearest shop is about 15km return trip. The access road from the highway (last 5-8minutes) is windy uphill but quite scenic after you pass the quarry.

Air bed, porta cot, spare mattresses and more extras available on request (usually free), just ask.

Hosts were awesome. Responsive when contacted and privacy was great. Cleanliness upon arrival was ok given the price point but things like the toy shelf and kitchen shelves a bit of a disorganised mess. Not a huge issue. Tea, coffee, vinegar and a few cooking things being available was good for traveling family who maybe want to cook. Hot water was an issue on the first evening and took most of the next day to get warm. Freezing shower for the start of our stay. Instruction to turn on the hot water cylinder was explicit but there was no mention of needing to find and check the switch by the microwave which would have easily solved that issue. Shower itself doesn’t have great pressure and is in need of some real elbow grease in the runners of doors etc. When we did our clean to check out I found the shower drain was really thick with hair and gunk built up over a few guest stays by the look. (not ours). Great place to stay for us in general but an overall deep clean on a more regular basis would make a difference. Was awesome to be able to light the fire on the second night once we had a chance to gather pine cones. Wood we collected was too big for the kent and we don’t carry an axe so we ended up buying our own. I’d say the place is what is advertised but rural and batch don’t need to mean a lower standard of general cleanliness. These things could be overcome and we would still book again.

Great to have washing machine & dishwasher but disappointed that clothes drier was not there as was advertised. Log fire great - to have a supply of firewood & paper would enhance this feature. We were able to gather some wood but was difficult in the storm that lasted for our 4 day stay. Relying on customers to clean on checkout is risky. The accumulated mould in shower really needs a deep clean. We bought & sprayed with exit mould which removed some of it. We did our best to clean but the job was difficult with a vacuum cleaner that didn’t have any suction even after we emptied it of rubbish from previous users. A better broom - stiffer bristles & longer handle would have helped. We found the microwave too high for safe use & easy wiping out. We took the mat from kitchen area out of circulation during our stay because it was too flimsy & dangerous. I personally found the open packets of various food items annoying & unsafe. The double bed was very uncomfortable. We enjoyed the privacy, location, price & parking. This accommodation ecperience would rate all stars for us if the things we’ve mentioned were addressed. We managed to make our stay work:)
