Where do I start? I first fell in love with Dimora del Sole while “cruising” the Porto Cesareo area on Google Street View. I saw the big property, sitting all by itself on its own triangular city block, right across the street from the beach and thought to myself, “that’s somewhere I would like to live…“ After a little more research, I found out that this property was a vacation rental and a short time later I reserved it for a week through Booking.Com as part of a three week trip to Italy we had planned with friends for June of this year.
To say that we were thrilled with the property is an understatement. The property owner contacted me just after I booked it back in October and answered all my questions prior to our arrival. I had casually mentioned that we were to arrive on the day of our 30th wedding anniversary and the owner, Antonio, was so incredibly kind as to have a bottle of champagne and some pastries waiting for us, and even decorated the bed in the master bedroom with giant 30th anniversary balloons and a personalized card. Wow! What a warm welcome…
The property itself is amazing. A spacious, well-designed floorplan with three bedrooms, all equipped with functioning air conditioning. Strong Wi-Fi was available for everyone in the group to do what we needed to do. The balcony overlooking the Ionian Sea is the centerpiece of the home and stays cool and well-ventilated in the mornings. In the evenings, what better place to watch the sun set over the water? The shade provided by the trees in the adjoining yard was great and made for the perfect place to laze in the hammock. An outdoor shower, along with umbrellas and lounge chairs made it easy to enjoy the beach across the street. The ample parking directly underneath the house was extremely convenient since the streets around the house fill up with locals coming in to enjoy the beautiful beach across the street.
(This is more good stuff, there wasn't enough room in the other section to finish. There was nothing we didn't like.)
Having the well-stocked Conad City supermarket a few steps away meant you had easy access to whatever you needed without having to drive anywhere. Same for the bar for your morning croissant and coffee and the restaurant and pizzeria for when you just wanted something close and easy.
The town of Porto Cesareo is very close, and the summer nightlife there was fun, with many dining options. The cities of Lecce and Gallipoli were close enough to enjoy as often as we liked and other destinations, such as the amazing city of Otranto were just an hour away. Finally, if you’ve never taken a dip in the clear, warm waters of the Ionian Sea off the west coast of the Salento Peninsula, you just can’t fully appreciate just how beautiful this area is.
Don't think twice! Book it if you can...
