Sol Mar

We really appreciated our stay at Sol e Mar Guest House. It´s a simple and very genuine spot in the countryside, 6 minutes away from the beach, which was just what we were looking for to relax for the weekend. The owner, Mrs. Dulce is a great host, very welcoming and always available for her guests. We found free parking right in from of the Guest House in the middle of August! It was quite a miracle as most places in Odeceixe are located in narrow streets with no parking anywhere nearby. We stayed in room 101, which was simple but quite comfortable, with a little balcony with a really relaxing view to the countryside. It has 2 ropes in which you can hang your towels and swimming wear. Breakfast was simple but with everything really fresh (some even from their own production). Mrs. Dulce has the sweetest young grandson, which our son loved to play with.

Odeceixe beach forms part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park and is considered one of the 7 wonders of Portugal. Parking can be quite a challenge and you have to go down a long hill to access the beach, so in the peak of Summer, you´re better of going early in the morning. If you want to avoid this issue, there´s a small touristic little train that goes from the Guest House into the beach. The water is excellent and not as cold as we had expected. Odeceixe Beach functions simultaneously as both a sea beach and a river beach, due to the mouth of the Ribeira de Seixe. When you go down the steps, it has a sort of central area where the stream is on the right-hand side and the sea is on the left. In the background, you can see the Ribeira flowing into the sea, and on the hillside, there is lush green vegetation with trees at the top. The mixture of the stream and the tides create shallow pools of warm water, ideal for children to play safely, as the sea is very rough. At low tide, there is a very extensive stretch of sand. At high tide, the sandy area is reduced to the sandy peninsula in the centre. There´s another beach 18minutes away, that has the same setting than this one, only that it is smaller - Carvalhal (already in Alentejo Region). Odeceixe Village is gorgeous with its cute narrow streets and its lovely little houses, very well kept and typical from the Algarve. (had to write this here as there wasn´t enough space above.) - We wish we´d have been there for longer, but unfortunately 2 days it was all the time we could afford. It was hard to say goodbye to Mrs. Dulce and her grandson. We hope to be back soonish.

Dulce was an incredible host, everything was so clean and perfect for what I needed.
