This is an established family style hotel. Private beach European style. That means for a fee you get an umbrella and a couple of lounge chairs on the sand. Being from San Diego, CA it is very different. Hotel is very nice and private. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was one of the best pre fixe on our trip. A little of everything. For people who enjoy this kind of accomadation (reminded me of an old East Coast resort or like staying at a Yacht Club) then St. Joseph's is for you. Good food, great service, deep wine list, very private. But to me, nothing going on. It's not my cup of tea.
When I asked it I could simply go down to the Sea and swim in the water without getting an umbrella and a lounge chair it was as if I asked for space ship. They didn't understand why anyone would want to just swim. I finely got it sorted out and all was well.

We had 1 room -Perfect for a couple with two children: 8 and 4.
Clean, quiet, and free parking for a car.
Away from everything else. Felt very safe.
It is only about 8 Km from city but that is not a problem.

The rooms were decent and the dinner was good.
The surrounding area was not as expected or advertised. The accommodations themselves were okay, but the property seemed to be pretty run down and not regularly maintained, which is sad because this location has a lot of potential. The rooms were advertised as quiet and "soundproof," but this was far from the reality; it was very loud all night and I could hear every footstep down the hall. When we arrived, we were given keys to a room that was occupied, then we were given the keys to the wrong room, and finally, the 3rd room we got the keys to was ours. The room was okay, but outside was a lot of trash and just not pleasing views. The room was what it was for the price, but I'm not sure I'd stay here again without the place being more kept up and maintained. The beach was closed which was also a huge bummer. We ended up checking out early, even though we couldn't get refunded for the last night.
