Everything was exceptional! The location and scenery were spectacular. The barns were beautiful and had everything you could possibly need. The hosts couldn't do enough for you and were super friendly. The weather was glorious.

We liked everything. Would have loved to be within walking distance to a good pub. However, the joys of being totally emersed in the countryside, surrounded by sea views, far exceeded that!

Downe Cottages are clearly a family enterprise, for families. We received a wonderfully warm welcome from Jeremy and his sweet niece and were shown around before settling in. We stayed in Hydrangea Cottage which has a large living space and a view looking out onto the central courtyard. The space outside our cottage (as with most of the cottages) is shared with another, so if it's solitude and privacy you are looking for, this is not for you. The bedroom was quite small compared to the rest of the cottage, and we were a little disappointed with the bed which felt a bit lumpy and could probably benefit from an upgrade. The bathroom was quite small, but bright. In the kitchen we had everything for our stay, including a washer/dryer which came in very handy. We enjoyed spending long afternoons snoozing on the sofa which was very comfy! Overall the decor was nice and in keeping with the situation and cottage. We spent many hours hiking the coastline from Hartland Quay, which is just stunning. It was very hot, and we enjoyed the beach at Hartland Quay which is lovely for swimming when the tide is out. The food at the hotel is quite okay if you want a simple pub meal, but oh that view!!! I would most certainly recommend it. We dined at Pattard Restaurant and the Farmer's Arms (in Woolsery), and both were delightful, but had no view whatsoever. Overall we loved our stay in Hartland and at Downe Cottages. Jeremy was a super attentive and kind host!

The bathroom was quite outdated, and we expected a more modern (larger) shower - my husband is almost six foot and struggled a little! However, everything worked! There were reams of manuals and instructions that we were asked to go through, which understandably is necessary, but it could do with being somewhat summarized! Our preference is always for complete darkness in the bedroom, but due to the window above the bed which connects to the living room, there was quite some light entering the room, which darkness-lovers ought to be aware of!

No hot water ready on our arrival due to a mix up with booking . Com Spiders in both showers and cobwebs on toilet brush when was that last used!! Cobwebs around velux window in double bed room Kitchen could have been cleaner try lifting up stainless prep board and you see what I mean!!
