The Onsen Hot Spring Resort

The breakfast on the 1st day was very good with a good array of options. And, the food was tasty. However, on the 2nd day we were told that, due to fewer guests, they were giving us a mini-buffet. There were 20 of us in our group and this was not considered big enough for a full buffet breakfast. Even eggs, which are standard breakfast items, were not given until we insisted. As a result, we felt cheated especially since 2 in our group paid extra for their breakfast. This is very poor management policy. The hotel is not cheap, yet we were given budget hotel treatment. This was the most disappointing part of our entire stay. Other than that, the surroundings are very peaceful and the private onsen was a treat. The staff were very pleasant and tried to please.

For such a large compound, there were only 2 buggies for all the guests. The place is too big to move around on foot and there should have been more buggies provided. It must be said, however, that the hardworking staff did come quickly when called. When I made the booking, I had mentioned that my wife and I are seniors with difficulty walking long distances. As such, we had requested a room near the facilities. The hotel responded to say our request had been noted. However, when we checked in, we were given the 2nd furthest room! The left hand did not know what the right hand was doing, obviously. As for room design, the tatami mats need to be secured to the floor as they slip. And the switches and wall plugs are inconveniently located near the floor. Not a good idea at all.

The breakfast is a healthy spread of local and international dishes and we are satisfied.

Our recent stay at the Onsen Hot Springs Resort in Batu, Malang was wonderful from start to finish. Everything was beautifully maintained, and the hotel was exceptionally clean, making it a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay. The private hot springs were the highlight of our visit. They were well maintained, peaceful, and provided the perfect setting to unwind. We also appreciated that the complimentary kimono robes were freshly laundered and smelled wonderfully clean, which added to the authentic and comfortable experience. The food was generally good. We especially enjoyed the sushi, which was fresh and delicious. While the rest of the Japanese dishes were decent, we felt there is room for improvement to better match the overall high standard of the resort.

The private Onsen could do with a bit more privacy but it’s not an issue at all.
