Ubytovňa a penzión Tavros

It is a typical, old-fashioned hotel/hostel, simple, clean, comfortable, spacious, and quiet. The staff was friendly, and the place felt very cozy (reminded me of my travels during the Czechoslovakia era but in a good way!). The fridge and kettle were useful. The price was very good!

Location is not great; on the way, there are only companies and warehouses, completely deserted, and I'd be scared walking alone at night (even during the day, I did not feel comfortable). It's quite far from the station too (about 1 km). There's no bus or tram, so I needed to go there and back 3 times when I left my luggage, and I felt tired in the end. If you come by car, then don't hesitate to stay there! There was a kettle but no mug, only a glass.

Great place to stay in Zilina.Easy to find! Good signage! Lovely Slovakian people....no English spoken. Excellent value for money for a comfortable room with fridge, kettle and set of cultery and crockery to use, on -suite shower toliet room and small towel. Thank you for a lovely stay. Walking distance to train and bus station. BUS for day trips to Cicmany and Stefanova/Terchnova Mala Fatra National Park for hikes. Trains for onward travel to Tatra N.Park,Strba or Banska Bystrica etc. Zilina has a lovely historical centre for a stroll and lunch,dinner in the Square.

The road is mainly industrial businesses and runs parallel with train track. There are road works at the beginning of road but you can walk through from the side etc. My room was clean but could of done with a quick re check ( mens pants underbed!) and dust wipe as dusty in areas. There is a T.V in room with controls unfortunately however not set up so no channels can be watched!

The price was ok, great location for the bus and train station for getting out to the Malá Fatra and also for shopping at the local Tesco. Easy enough to get to the river for running. Pleasant views of the hills across rail yard. Being next to the rail yard and factory was quite cool but not to everyone's taste. Having a room fridge was really good!

Most of this will be splitting hairs because its a cheap place to stay! Very basic, rooms didn't feel at all homely. Would have benefited from a cheap plate, bowl and cutlery considering there was a fridge. Curtains didn't shut much light out, and in fact barely covered the window and made the whole room glow orange. Basically on an the edge of a big industrial estate which means you're away from the centre and it doesn't feel the safest walking home after dark. Shower mount was a little strange (shower sprays pointing sideways). Basically don't stay here if you want to spend significant time in your room!
