Number 22, Castle Street

Number 22 Castle St. Hay-on-Wye is a gem. The cottage is probably 500 or so years old and has been renovated in a manner that pays homage to its past. Oak ceiling timbers and doors with iron hinges and latches, little nooks carved out of the walls and filled with art, a BEAUTIFUL modern kitchen that I wished I could have taken home with me, a lovely, spacious, bathroom in the loft and another half bath on the main floor, a mudroom complete with boots for walking in the garden and cushions for the outdoor table benches, a grill and games galore - everything a traveler could possibly desire in a wonderful location. The character of this cottage is amazing and makes me smile just thinking of it! The main floor is really roomy, well appointed, complete with dining table, comfortable throws, pillows and lovely furniture. The art on the walls is original and very well done. I wish we had had more time to enjoy all the amenities this cottage offered. Ali has thought of everything a traveler could desire. She had milk, fruit, bread, butter and jam, coffee, and tea waiting for us. The kitchen was a marvel to use. Every window had a beautiful view of the town. Ali was prompt in her communications and very welcoming. I would totally recommend Number 22 Castle St. to anyone looking for a unique cottage to vacation at in Wales. The cottage has a beautiful loft bedroom for two and the living room could also sleep another adult or child. The location of the cottage itself is great - right at the beginning of the walking area downtown and just around the corner from a fantastic car-park where you can leave your car overnight. Number 22 is right on Castle St., so everything in town is within easy walking distance. Step out the door and you are in the down-town market area. Hay-on-Wye is a great location for exploring the southern half of Wales as well.

Absolutely nothing could be better! What else can I say - I hope other travelers have a chance to experience and appreciate the hospitality of this rare find!

22 Castle St is in a fantastic location in Hay-On-Wye. There are beautiful views from the bedroom. Lovely little touches - bread, butter and milk are provided on arrival. The accommodation has so much character, the bed is really comfortable and it was perfectly clean.

It’s so cozy and clean with everything in it you could possibly need. It was our 4th time staying there and we will definitely be back.
