About this farm stay rental

Les Glycines, the french name for wisteria, is the name I chose for the gîte, as in the summer the walls are covered in beautiful purple flowers, with a heady scent!! The one bedroom gite attached to my house was converted in 2015. Previously the gite was two garages, storing cider barrels and bottles, sadly empty! The farmhouse is over 300 years old, a mixture of brick, cob & stone, and is not overlooked, except by the cows in a neighbouring field! You'll feel as if you're miles from anywhere, as there is 5000sq metres of land, plenty of green space, the cats enjoy it!

Les Glycines is situated in a small village called Cerisy-la-Foret, which is known for its 11th century abbey and modern sculpture park. A 10 minute walk and you're at the monks pond opposite the abbey, very picturesque. 5 mins drive in the other direction, and you're in the forest.

If it's a relaxing break for two you need, in a quiet setting, then look no further. However, you're not in the middle of nowhere, Bayeux and St Lo are close by, within a 25 minute drive. You have the best of both worlds!

Most people choose Normandy to explore everything they have heard about D-day. You won't be disappointed! Ideally situated for visiting all the D-day landing beaches with Omaha being the nearest, only 30 minutes away. There are plenty of military cemeteries and museums nearby.

We really enjoyed our stay at Les Glycines, Noreen is a great host with a beautiful house and garden. Situated on the edge of a lovely village with all the essentials (boulangerie, bar, bank, shop) in walking distance, the gîte had everything we needed in a peaceful rural setting. Easy to get to from the ferry port at Ouistreham, close to Bayeux and D-Day beaches.We loved it!

The pictures reflect the accommodation very well. Warm welcome from the landlady including a small personal greeting. Quiet location, very clean, lovingly furnished, well-equipped eat-in kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge, dishes, etc.), stable internet, cozy sitting area at the back of the house. The landlady was always available to answer questions and provided us with lots of information about the surrounding area. Limited shopping facilities in the village. This gitte is a little gem full of love and care. My friend and I came to Cerisy la Foret for the concert of Luc Arbogast. But we got more than we bargained for. The gitte of Noreen is in walking distance of the Abbey and the centre of the village with a pub and a bakery. Port au Besson, chateau Balleroy all worthwhile a visit. As a guest of Noreen everything is taken care for. Lots of places to sit round the house and enjoy the beautifull garden. This is rural life at its best! Thank you, and your cats, very much for the best stay in Normandie you could ever whish for.

This was a perfect spot to do the DDay sites. We loved the tranquility of being in the countryside. Gite was very clean and had everything we needed. Noreen was very hospitable even providing a baguette, cheese, tomatoes and cider for our arrival.

Very light, airy and roomy property. Let down by the quaint assortment of crockery and cutlery. Only one saucepan had a lid. Needs more storage space in kitchen area. A bit further to the village than we expected. The butcher was on his annual holidays!

We have just had a really lovely two weeks in this relaxing little gite. Noreen is a great Lady who does everything she can to insure you have a memorable holiday. We did have a few issues but these were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Our one and only criticism is that the outside seating area could be made more comfortable with a bit of TLC. Otherwise we are more than happy to recommend this gite to everyone who wishes to get away from it all.

An splendid gite. Over the years we have stayed in many holiday cottages in France and Italy and this is one of the best. Good facilities and in a very attractive and peaceful location. A particular strength is the number of outdoor spots by the cottage to sit or eat.Noreen is an good hostess leaves you to it but is on hand to help if needed. It is an attractive part of Normandy. Nearby Le Molay Liitry has decent shops, a Thursday market and a couple of restaurants. Bayeux and the surrounding area have much to offer - gardens,chateaux, the D day beaches and much more. We will go again if we are able.

A great gite, all on one level, with everything you could need provided. A large, airy, lounge/kitchen/diner with cooker, microwave, fridge and coffee machine. A large bedroom with modern en-suite shower room. Air conditioned too. It's all nicely decorated and very clean and comfortable. There is also a TV with English Freeview satellite and a dvd player. There are plenty of places to sit outside in the extensive grounds to chase sun or shade and the only noise is from the cows in the adjoining fields and the tolling of the nearby abbey bell. It's a perfect gite for a couple and gave us a very peaceful and relaxing break. Noreen the owner is there should you need her but otherwise let's you get on with your holiday. Bayeux and St Lo are about 20mins away, the nearest supermarket is c10mins away but the local village has a butcher, a baker and a small general store. The D-Day beaches are about 40mins away and the gite makes a good base to explore the region. It's one of the best gites we've used and is recommended.

Noreeen was the ideal 'there but not there' hostess. She was always ready to advise or help, without being in any way obtrusive. The accommodation was very comfortable, clean and well-equipped. Consequently we greatly enjoyed our stay.

The accomodation was perfect, very nice and cosy, and there is all to have a very good stay, bedroom, kitchen, garden.. The countryside around and the view is marvellous, especially in the morning to have breakfast outside. The place is very practical to visit all the D-Day sites. Notably the Museum for Peace of Caen is absolutely to visit. And last but not least, Noreen is a perfect hostess and a very nice personn. To recommand absolutely.

My wife and I spent the Easter weekend and although the weather was poor we still had a wonderful time. Noreen is an excellent host and was always available when needed, providing advice and guidance on the local area as well as answering any questions we had about the Gite. For those who want to spend time enjoying this area and want a comfortable intimate Gite for 2 then you can't go far wrong. Will definitely recommend to friends and family!

We had an excellent stay at this property and Noreen was there should any problem arise which was great. Mixed weather but we managed to barbecue 2 nights out of 6 which we enjoyed as we do at home. We would have liked opening windows in the bedroom as we did not want to leave the french doors open on an evening. Very comfortable with everything you need.Unfortunately the local boulangerie and charcuterie were closed for annual holidays but the cocci market came up trumps and we also bought some great wine from there. They even ordered some in specially for us to take home.An excellent week, thanks Noreen

This was our second holiday at this beautiful gite! Yet again an amazing break (thank you Noreen!) We came for a peaceful and tranquil break which we totally got. We did the beaches and the crematories a couple of years ago which was a very emotional visit for us both . We stayed two years ago and would have stayed last year but to due to unforeseen circumstances were unable to. We would highly recommend the gite if you want a relaxing break (if you want nightlife and lots of bars it's not for you!). It was fab seeing Sem Sem and Claude again and I know Geoff really looked forward to seeing the cattle running around the field. We are now planning our third, fourth and fifth visit over the coming months and years. This is a place we really look forward to visiting time after time.

Comfortable Gîte at a quiet, relaxing property

Selected this property for a one week stay in Normandy based on location and amenities. It is about 20-25 minutes to Bayeux or Saint-Lô by car. Booking was easy and on site owner Noreen very responsive. The gîte is a converted farmhouse and has been renovated to a very nice comfortable standard. The place was spotlessly clean upon arrival and bottle of local cider was provided. The kitchen has all of the essentials including microwave, kettle, coffee maker, fridge with a small freezer compartment, etc. A few highlights/essentials: Parking--in a rural setting and parking is no problem. Water-very adequate water pressure for shower and plenty of hot water too. Internet: Wifi signal excellent in main room. Speed and stability supported streaming without any issues. A/C: it is the proper type--the mini-split wall mounted system with a remote control. Almost silent and works quite well. One note--the unit is in the kitchen/sitting room so one must leave bedroom door open in order to cool that space, but it does work fine. Bedroom: Good size with a wardrobe and plenty of clothes hangers. Towels were provided and changed out mid week. Bed was a double (a bit small compared to what I am used to at home) but otherwise comfortable. Sitting area: comfortable couch, and TV with UK Freeview Owner: Noreen is very warm and friendly. She was available to assist and chat without ever being intrusive. She assembled a very organised "instruction manual" for guests. Bonus: Two marmalade cats Sem Sem and Claude were always on patrol outside. Very friendly! I would recommend this gîte to anyone looking to stay in this part of Normandy. It is a good location for accessing D-Day beaches and sites.

Absolutely perfect for our purposes, very clean and well converted farmhouse apartment with all we needed for a perfect fortnight. The lovely Noreen(landlady) was the most welcoming and attentive host you will ever need. My wife is disabled and this property worked perfectly for her no steps, only a minor step into the shower with no hand rails, we fortunately brought our own shower stool with us so no dramas. Absolutely stunning local farm vistas with young calves and bullocks wandering round the adjoining fields, Noreen's delightful cats and fantastic views of birds of prey socialising and hunting. We had a very lazy holiday and spent most of our time in and around the gite. Good local shopping and an interesting area made our 2 weeks very memorable and the weather was amazing! We may well return?

The property was spotlessly clean & nothing was too much trouble for our kind,helpful owner. It was a great place from which to explore all areas of Normandy. This was our second visit (this time to see the Tour de France), the gite was still as perfect, the hosts even more so and the area still as beautiful. We had a relaxing week but there is so much do see and do in this corner of France that we will be back! Everything you could possibly want from a holiday. We had read previous reviews and thought could the gite be as good as it sounds? We'll let us put your minds to rest. This was our first solo holiday for 19 years and what a fantastic time we had. The gite was spacious, clean and very well equipped and the owners, Noreen and Richard were very welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately we did not realise it was a public holiday in France when we arrived so we only had some very basic essentials with us, mainly water and a few cheese biscuits! The owners did e-mail us to let us know but we did not pick up the e-mail! Noreen and Richard came to our rescue (thank you). We had a lovely evening meal of fresh baked bread, pate, olives washed down with some lovely Normandy cidre. The surrounding area was lovely. Sitting in the private garden with patio chairs and sun loungers was very relaxing. We had cows in two adjoining fields which always made us laugh in the mornings with their antics . The owners could not have been more helpful giving us tips on the surrounding area. We made trips to the Normandy beaches and the many cemeteries around. The American/Canadaian was the most immaculate one we saw. The village itself had a Boulangerei, bar and butchers which was a 10 minute walk from the property. We decided to go to the next village which had a couple of small supermarkets which gave us everything we needed. The cats - sem sem and Claude were very entertaining too (Don't worry they were friendly). They never attempted to come into the gite which was a cat feee zone. We would definitely recommend (please don't expect exciting nightlife. We came for a well deserved relaxing break) and if like us you want relaxation and a peaceful week or two and a total break please look no further. Lovely warm welcome from Noreen and Richard we were made to feel at home from the off. Was very impressed with the gite beautifully decorated with everything we could possibly want. Spotlessly clean with a welcome pack for our arrival. Set in a quiet village with boulangerie and bar and very near to lots of attractions, near to Normandy landing beaches and Bayeaux with plenty of restaraunts , shops and cafés we loved it here. We would definately recommend and we will be back . Thank you for a lovely relaxing week , Tracy and Ray.
