About this house rental

Chester's Lodge is a stunning, contemporary, ultra-comfortable, newly built designer holiday home only 300m from the southerly tip of Lake Coniston. With privacy and relaxation in mind, the 4 four sumptuous bedrooms sleep 8 and have individual underfloor heating control, System-line audio entertainment and 3 out of 4 have HD TV's. Two of the four bedrooms have large en-suite bathrooms, there is a separate large family bathroom and a further washroom. The huge open-plan first floor lounge/kitchen/diner and snug has large wrap-around leather sofas, HD TV's, games console and much, much more. Utility room with additional fridge and microwave and washing machine. The modern high-spec kitchen has top-range appliances and leads directly to an amazing 300sq ft south facing decking area with outside sofa and loungers, 1/3 acre private grounds and a further 6 acres of Estate grounds. Beyond, there's a second fabulous patio area where you can dine, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There's private parking for 3 cars, electric car charger (chargeable), free Wifi and Netflix and all the mod-cons for a memorable holiday. Use Chester's Lodge to relax and un-wind or as a super-cool base from which you can explore the beautiful Lake District and beyond.

The directions to Chesters Lodge were easy to follow. The property is in a beautiful setting and the interior of this upside down house is of high quality. Lots of space for 2 adults and 5 grandkids to relax and play with the lake nearby and Coniston, Ambleside and Windermere a short car journey away. Highly recommend a stay here.

Amazing stay! The house is fabulous and has all you will need for a wonderful stay. The showers are incredible and beds are comfortable which is perfect after long walks! The internet at times can be a little slow but wasn’t a problem! Would recommend to others and will be back!

Chester Lodge is fantastic, in fact the pictures don’t do it justice. Showers are excellent, with good water pressure. Lots of tech features, lighting, sound speakers etc. Good base for exploring, with lovely walks and views. We had glorious weather, the wet gear did not come out once :) Sarah was very responsive to any questions we had. Would highly recommend, we hope to return at some point.

We really enjoyed our peaceful days here. The host was superbly responsive and gracious. The lodging was clean, spacious, comfortable. The only critique we had was that the upstairs floors creak very loudly when someone is walking on them. Not an issue for most, but consider if you have early risers + late / light sleepers within your group (creak is loud in downstairs bedrooms). Absolutely would stay here again.

Four adults stayed at Chester’s Lodge for a week aged from late 50’s to late 60’s. The Lodge is very luxurious with every amenity that you are likely to need, situated in a peaceful setting relatively close to Lake Coniston. The host Sarah is very quick to respond to queries and questions. This was our second visit and I am sure we will return again.

Amazing house nestling in a small development. It’s upside down, with bedrooms below and a large open plan area above. Very well equipped kitchen and enough televisions to prevent any arguments about what to watch. Ideal location for exploring the southern lakes. Would recommend boat tour of the lake on the National Trust boat Gondola and the walks around Grizedale Forest (weather permitting!). Swimming in the lake (a short walk away) is a treat for those who like cold water and there is also the possibility of a canoe trip to the Swallows and Amazons island. All in all a memorable stay in a great house in a wonderful location. Highly recommended.

Amazing lodge that we would like to put on wheels and take with us on future adventures. Beautiful location. We had daily sheep visits and even an owl made an appearance on our last evening. All the mod cons. Drying room very useful. Showers were lovely. We had a slight issue with the internet connection (network provider) and Sarah and Steven responded extremely quickly and were on the case sorting it out, which was very much appreciated. We had an amazing week. The weather wasn’t great but didn’t stop us. At the end of the day it was comforting to know we were going back to the lovely lodge.

Fabulous, but OTT! It took us most of the week to work out how to work the hob! Bluetooth for our phone was way beyond us. Very comfortable beds. Lots of space upstairs, but a creaky floor to disturb anyone having a lie-in. 4* because freezer was iced up, and Dyson hadn't been emptied when we arrived.

We so enjoyed the week we spent at Chester's Lodge. The property was immaculate and we were blessed with fine weather which enabled us to enjoy the the outside areas. The communication with the owners was first rate as they were able to check out the proposed road closures on the road almost immediately by the entrance to the property grounds. #It was unfortunate that there was a constant noise from a generator supplying the electricity to the other properties following the storms last year but this was beyond the control of the owners and, to be honest, it was just 'white noise' after a while. The Lodge is within walking distance of Coniston Water and we enjoyed swimming in the Lake on a number of days. The Lodge is very well equipped in terms of storage, cooking facilities etc. although we didn't notice the second fridge (in the Utility Room) until Day 2 (I really need to get my eyes tested!) As the weather was so good we didn't really take advantage of the different seating areas upstairs but the feeling of space was wonderful and the bedrooms were very comfortable.

Beautiful property, flawed experience

The property is beautiful with high quality fixtures and fittings in a quiet rural location. Pillows on the beds were dreadful and there was limited towels (1 per person). There was a generator droning away continuously during our stay. This was obviously there for a reason but spoiled the peaceful location when sitting outdoors. Everywhere you looked there was a sign that you “must do” something. Clean the alcove in the shower after use, strip the beds, don’t do this, don’t do that. Plus check in was 16:00 but check out was 10:00 giving 6 hours to clean even though you had to strip the bed, out towels in a bag, clean all surfaces down, make sure the dish washer was empty. I love to stay and quality accommodations but the rules here were ridiculous and I wouldn’t recommend it just based on that. Go elsewhere is my advice.

Not only is it brilliantly designed and specified to a very high standard, it also sits beside the lake and the amount of glass in the property makes you feel at times like you are in the woods themselves. We all had a fantastic stay at Chesters Lodge and cannot fault it. Myself, partner and teenagers of 16 and 19 were very impressed with all the facilities and just how comfortable the property is. All mod cons yet homely in a peaceful woodland setting. Sitting on the decking area after cooking in the well equipped kitchen was a joy. We used the binoculars provided to watch the woodpeckers each day. The beds are so comfortable after a day’s activity in the area and showers are of a generous size with plenty of hot water. There is a lovely walk up to Beacon Tarn from the property and we also walked up Old Man of Coniston with amazing views. Weather was kind so paddle boarding and swimming in the Lake were a must. We also ventured further afield with trips to Grasmere, Piel island with its castle, Furness Abbey, Manjushri Kadampa Buddhist Temple, Cathedral and Rydal Caves and Derwent water. So much to do! We made some great memories at Chesters and Sarah was always on hand if needed. You will not be disappointed by booking this property, just do it!

First and foremost I must say that myself and my mates had a great time, really easy-going getaway in a modernised home. It would be easy to list off all the good parts however think of it as everything I don't mention in the following: In terms of the things that could be done better, we all agreed that the lounge would be better off with blinds. The bathrooms could also do with locks especially with a full house being present. The Wi-Fi would also intermittently drop. The BBQ also caused an issue or two with how close the coals would sit to the food, causing burning. And lastly, we believe it would've been helping to keep some fire starting mechanisms on deck, such as a lighter or matches. This may sound critical but rest assured we thoroughly enjoyed the trip and would certainly recommend to others. Many thanks, Mikaail

The property was ideal for our adult family. The reverse layout, with bedrooms downstairs, was novel and worked well. All 4 bedrooms were very generously sized and comfortable. The bathroom and en suites were similarly spacious. Upstairs we were spoilt for choice for where to eat and relax. We didn't used the 2 terraces much but loved the enveloping green and leafy surroundings. It was an excellent base for 3 days of serious walking based around Coniston Water.

Absolutely amazing property. The attention to detail is second to none. A high spec throughout, immaculate and super clean. Correspondence with Sarah was always fast and efficient and she was super helpful in answering all my questions. We are a very well travelled family and have stayed in beautiful properties around the world but this is by far the best in all areas. The amount of space was perfect for large families coming together. The teenagers loved the snug and the x-box. Us adults loved the open plan layout and direct access to the south facing decking area. We only had one day of dry weather but when the sun came out it was the perfect lunch spot and pre dinner drinks area. The drying room was great for drying out our wetsuits after a swim in the lake. Direct access to beautiful walks and views are on your doorstep. The direct hot water tap, Netflix, Nespresso machine, TVs in 3 bedrooms, Bluetooth sound system throughout, good wifi, underfloor hearing, 3 ovens, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer.... I mean Sarah and Stephen have thought of EVERYTHING! A perfect stay in every way. So much so we are making this an annual event. Thank you Sarah and Stephen

We were a family of 5 adults & we all loved this house. It was very clean, spacious, has comfortable beds, excellent bathrooms, showers, water pressure, plenty of hot water. It has a fantastic kitchen with a very good assortment of tools & dishes. We even stayed in 1 night because it was so pleasant to cook & eat there. The WiFi worked everywhere in the house. The lighting is really well done. Everything was in excellent condition. This is an upside-down house with the bedrooms down on the entry floor & the main living upstairs. There are stairs (with a railing) but my 90 year-young mother had no problems with this setup – this was her favorite house in all the places we stayed on our 3 week vacation. The house is in a quiet location. There are neighbors nearby but plenty of privacy. We enjoyed the sheep wandering around the property. The weather in October was cool but we did sit outside on the lovely patio – I can imagine this would be a wonderful spot in the spring & summer.

Chester’s Lodge is an ultra-modern, spacious yet cosy lodge in a pretty setting within walking distance of Coniston Water where we spent a great afternoon swimming and SUP boarding. We are a family with three boys including two teenagers who were delighted to find the flat-screen TVs, WiFi, blue tooth, Netflix, X box and big comfy sofas; mum and dad enjoyed the view, outside seating areas and peace, It was my first visit to the Lakes, and I loved it! Easy booking, check-in process and communication with owners. Everything in house labelled with instructions on how to use.

This is a beautiful, spacious, modern let in a lovely mossy Lake District garden. However, you are cut off from Lake Coniston and nearby footpaths by a narrow busy road with no sidewalks. As a result, you really need a car to get off the premises safely.

Really hard to find fault with the lodge or the outside space. It is a quiet, select site and only a short walk to the steamer jetty on Lake Coniston, with stunning scenery. The lodge is very large with all the facilities one would want, including wifi and even computer games for the young ones. Added to which the owners, who live some few miles away are very good if one needs something.
