very quiet, relaxing and elegant is located in Gaggi, a quiet village, in a very quiet area in an area full of greenery, where in the morning you can hear birds singing!the town is located in the center of the Alcantara valley 15 minutes from Taormina with its marvelous viewpoint and the fantastic GREEK THEATER in which during the summer there are many concerts and the crystal clear sea of the ISOLA BELLA and the beautiful beaches of Giardini naxos e10 minutes from the Alcantara Gorges. We really enjoyed our holiday near Taormina in the spacious Villa Pagano with pool, outdoor kitchen and terrace with a view of Mount Etna. The beautiful garden, overgrown with colorful fruits and flowers, was a feast for the eyes. We spent almost all of our time outdoors. A special highlight was the observation of the Etna eruption 20 km away from the terrace, with the enjoyment of Giovanni's own Etna wine. The hospitality of Giovanni was outstanding. He took care of us with his own fruits and supported and organized us in planning our trip. We thank Giovanni for the great time.

Giovanni is a wonderful host and is always at the end of the line if needed. The house is large with the most wonderful terrace with views of etna and down the valley. The garden is lush with fruit of every variety and so peaceful. Gaggi is a short drive from Taormina and large supermarkets but far enough away that it felt secluded. Saying that the village itself wasn’t really suitable for an evenings stroll, not much is open. The house is lovely and spacious and having an outside kitchen next to the pool was a real bonus but I think it could benefit from some updated cooking equipment. A small niggle which didn’t spoil our trip! There is plenty to do and see within a 45 min drive highlights for us being mount etna, gole alcantara and the winding old town and gardens of Taormina.

Giovanni's communication was very good & he kindly moved our booking due to Covid. Previous reviews warning "beware of hidden extras" were true: garage/off-road parking is an extra (fine on-road); charges for the extras Giovanni provides were not clear (we believed the limoncello was a gift but were charged on departure). Make sure at check-in that what is included, what is a welcome gift and what is chargeable is agreed. Defects we found with the property were quickly rectified - replacement of dirty, chipped crockery (I’d had washed the crockery & cupboards) & a new coffee maker. Being an open kitchen, food storage wasn’t ideal – some insect problems. Generally the kitchen just needed updating.
The website is wrong (e.g. there isn't a hot tub/Jacuzzi) & it does not make the layout clear (no floorplan); advertised as a 6 person (price is actually only for 4 and must pay extra for the extra bedroom); 3rd bathroom is actually on the far side of the pool; the “extra bedroom” has an ensuite, without that there is only 1 bathroom available in the house. The central core of the house is closed & so your space is arranged around the outside giving an unusual layout. The outside kitchen (you are only allowed to use one) is remote from the living area (a 30/40m trek through the garden to get a drink in the evening or cup of tea in the morning - not pleasant during thunderstorms) and that the kitchen to the terrace is a convoluted route – 100m from the kitchen to the terrace is through the garden, up through the house & along the outside balcony. That said, the terrace has lovely views and the pool area is lovely, surrounded by flowering plants and fruit trees.
Be aware of cctv camera surveilling the pool area, which made us very uncomfortable. We were warned that the police would be informed if we covered it since there had been an incident at the property opposite where a dog had been killed. We did cover it during the day anyway. It is a quiet neighbourhood; a 10 min walk to a small supermarket selling essentials, and handy for the airport, Etna, Alcantara Valley and Taormina. The local pizzeria delivers and is good value. Giovanni was excellent at booking restaurants for us.
Overall, we would have no hesitation in returning to this beautiful area, but sadly not to Villa Pagano. It would take very little to clarify the listing and make a few improvements to bring it up to the standard expected by most travellers (eg extender for poor wifi).
