About this house rental
The charming hillside setting of Mount Etna with its vineyards, orchards and low stone walls forms the backdrop to this beautiful country house situated close to Trecastagni, a small village on the south-eastern slope of the volcano, just 15 km away from Catania. Dating back to the 17th century, Palmento Monterosso has been expertly renovated to retain its old charm, character and original architectural features. Its comfortable rooms, carefully decorated with tasteful accessories and traditional handicrafts, merge the time-honoured past of the property with modern comforts into a warm and subtle atmosphere. This is accentuated by typical local features such as vaulted ceilings, terracotta floor tiles, wrought iron beds, stone door arches and majolica tiles. Outside a large, private garden and a patio with pergola are the perfect place to relax and enjoy the colour and fragrance of the Sicilian countryside. Located in a side street within close proximity of the natural attractions of the Etna National Park and of the wine route, Palmento Monterosso is the perfect base for enjoying delicious wine and gastronomy tours and exploring the stunning nature of this area. In the vicinity can easily be visited the close volcanic cones of Mt. Ilice, Gorna and St. Nicolò, the other nice villages on the slopes of Mount Etna such as Piedimonte and Zafferana, but also the renowned towns of the eastern coast such as Taormina, Catania and Siracusa.

Ground Floor: living room with fireplace, masonry kitchen. Raised First Floor: living room-study (open onto the kitchen), 1 double bedroom with balcony, 1 twin bedroom with balcony, 1 bathroom with shower. Lower Floor: 1 double/twin bedroom, 1 bathroom with tub, laundry room.

Patio, terrace with pergola, garden.

Services included: final cleaning, bed linen and towels, water, gas and electricity consumptions.

The overall stay was delightful. The owners, who we dealt with (more on this latter) were very sweet with only the woman speaking English.Positives: the property on the slopes of Mt. Etna were charming. Next to a vineyard and actually a former wine press building. Quiet and for the most part, well stocked for a weeks stay. Several bedrooms and comfortable beds. Negatives: Confused communication with the booking agency sending out emails but referring all communication while there to the owners. What was their purpose anyway? Had hoped for more assistance with sites and restaurants, which we had to deal with on our own.Property was not set up as in the pictures. One chase lounge was available, but broken. We had to search for hammocks and outdoor chairs that were put away or stored on the property. Not properly set up for a guest arrival.

Well organised communication from the start. Lovely hosts who went through everything at the start. The property is lovely an old restored very sensitively.
Reasonably good location allowing you to access to Etna and the coast.
There is no air conditioning so there were a few nights where it was a little uncomfortable. You do need to rent a car to explore from here to make the best if what Sicily has to offer.
