About this cottage rental

La Majada Alta is situated within a National Park, and stands in several thousand square metres of private grounds in an exceptionally beautiful area of mountains and lakes. The cottage is ideal for those who will enjoy the relaxing sounds of goat bells or the call of the eagle owl or the sight of eagles drifting overhead. This is also an ideal base for the more active visitor who will find satisfaction from the beautiful walks, the lakes, the white villages, the famous gorge at El Chorro, or the fantastic limestone formations at El Torcal.
If you believe in magic you will love La Majada Alta cottage.

Coast/Beach
The beach resorts of Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Marbella (Costa del Sol) are around 1½ hour drive from the cottage. The Atlantic beaches of Tarifa are approx 3 hours.

Golf
Antequera Golf is 30km or 40 minutes drive. Alhaurin Golf is 45km or 50 minutes drive.

Skiing
The ski resort of Sol y Nieve in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Granada is open from Christmas until the end of April. The lift system is fast and modern with gondolas and 4 man chairs and skiing is up to 3000m with varied runs and a possible 1000m descent. You can be on piste in less than 3 hours from the cottage.

The cottage is ideal for those who will enjoy the relaxing sounds of goat bells or the call of the eagle owl or the sight of eagles drifting overhead. A beautiful property if your looking for a quiet stay in beautiful surroundings. We had an excellent stay. Colin was just absolutely brilliant. So helpful at answering my questions about the area and what was worth visiting. He was so helpful when we met him after driving from the airport. He took us to a local shop to buy supplies and took them in his car to the Villa. The Villa was just wonderful a well stocked kitchen with utensils, which so many villa's are not. A great BBQ lovely pool and cool rooms to sleep in the evenings with Air-con. All the family had a great time.

perfect home to visit Camino del Rey. views to die for. mountain goat visits at the pool was a highlight. Baby goats born recently learing to trek, never gets boring watching. Colin was most excellent host and his house is amazing. house was clean and everything worked and in good repair. pool was clean and nice that pool towels provided. had dinner on the back patio 2 nights and will never forget it...moonlight and stars lit up the mountain peak above and the valley sky below...and as a total bonus, not a single mosquito bite!

We had a wonderful stay at the villa and really made the most of it as the wet weather meant we had to stay in at times. We had beautiful views of the stunning mountain that we both hiked and climbed. We were warm and comfortable with plenty of firewood. The kitchen is super well equipped and it allowed for cooking for many people. The shop was about 15min drive in a near by village. There is enough communal space to spend time together as well as having time in our own rooms. The views and vegetation are magical. Would definitely come back! Thank you to our wonderful hosts for being very communicative and helpful!

The beauty of the setting and the property itself is stunning. The owners have worked to provide a gorgeous setting with a lot of room and a stand-out decor. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is well-appointed and the views are simply gorgeous. The owner greeted us personally and made sure that we knew just where we were going and where we could obtain provisions and go out to eat. That was a very nice feature. To be sure, those who are lucky enough to stay at this property should be prepared to enjoy "the joy of self-catering" (quote from Colin) and that is certainly reasonable. As such, travelers should expect to provide some of what otherwise might be included in other places they've stayed (example: laundry detergent, paper towels, garbage bags, extra toilet paper). That was easy for us to manage and did not detract one bit from the pleasure of our stay. I've stayed in many countries at many properties and I would rank this as one of the lovliest. .

We stayed at Majada alta for 2 weeks with 1 teenager and a 4y.o and we absolutely LOVED it! Every aspect/window of the cottage has an absolutely stunning view. We were frequently visited by the wild mountain goats whenever they needed a drink from the pool - it was such a wholesome experience. The pool was a lifesaver in the intense Andalucia summer heat! Large size and regularly cleaned and maintained. The cottage was fully equipped with pretty much everything you need. A/C worked really well in the rooms (thank the heavens!) and local village has all the essentials we needed. The roads in the village and leading up to the cottage are not for the faint-hearted especially if you haven't driven on those roads before - so just drive slow at first but you soon get used to it. Caminito del rey is just a 10min drive away and lots of other villages nearby to drive to and appreciate the views of the stunning local landscape.. Colin and Francesca were brilliant hosts, from prompt replies and being on hand for any advice we needed and even took the time to show us around- such lovely people! Definitely a memorable experience for us, and would love to come back again one day. Massive thanks to Colin and Francesca. What a magical place this is!

We absolutely loved our stay. The home is more rustic but was perfect for the two of us. We loved the location. Do your grocery shopping before arrival and then just unplug. There’s plenty of hiking in the area, but we spent our time reading and playing card games. It turned into one of the more relaxing trips we’ve been on. The pool and view is unparalleled. We saw an ibex and watched the goat herders behind the property. Absolutely idyllic.

This is the third time we have stayed at this beautiful property. Two times in the summer and once in the winter and all three were wonderful. It is a beautiful large house with a well equipped big kitchen and two large bathrooms and three bedrooms. The swimming pool is great and there are beautiful areas to sit outside on the large property. We especially love the mountain that the house is at the foot of. It is a special place. It is also very close to the Caminito Del Rey walking trail which is the reason why we came here the first time. We hope to come again again. Colin the host is always available and very helpful.

We stayed for a week and the villa was clean and met every expectation and more. The host Colin was very attentive and always on hand should we need for recommendations of restaurants and where to go. The Villa offered a fantastic pool with amazing views and was suited to our family with three teens. Colin met us to take us to the villa even though this was after midnight and this was much appreciated. The area is lovely and quiet and very peaceful, however you can still access busier parts if you required which are a drive away. This was a really beautiful and secluded area with stunning gardens surrounding the villa. There was mountains in front and behind the villa which meant every entrance had natural beauty that you can escape in. The holiday in itself was amazing and would definitely recommend this property to anyone else who wishes to visit the area. Colin was also attentive to our needs noticing our late arrival and asked us for a shopping list which he ensured was at the villa on our arrival as we had three hungry teens! Would love to stay again! This villa was roomy, homely and met each of our individual needs. Thanks Colin and Francesca!

Staying at this Spanish Cottage in the hills of Southern Spain is like you are in a dream. The cottage has a quaint country Spanish feel and it is just like the online pictures. There was plenty of room for the four of us. We had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cooking items. We even used the barbecue one night to cook dinner. The pool area is lovely! The views are spectacular as you are high on a hill. We do suggest you have a car to get around as the closest market store is about a 15 minute drive away on windy roads. There are plenty of small villages to explore in the area and we suggest you visit Antequera. We used the cottage as our home base to visit Granada, Cordoba and a must see white village, Frigiliana, in the Costa del Sol area. The property offers a quiet relaxing space to come back to after a day of exploring or if you are looking for total relaxation this is a great property. Our hosts Colin and Francesca were delightful, hospitable and responded quickly to any communications we had. We recommend this property!

Our stay here could not have been better. We were a group of seven friends staying in the area to rock climb. Guess what, there is climbing right on the property! Then after you can just relax in a pool. Amazing value and clean. Wifi worked well and was stocked with good amenities. Host was helpful and was easy to find. The house is older but gives it character. Just remember to bring food and toiletries with you as it is not super close to anything with lots of selection. Would totally stay here again without hesitation.

Very charming property in an idyllic location, with beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes from the terrace and pool. The house was spotless and maintained well, we had a very comfortable stay. The outdoor areas were excellent, with multiple spots for relaxing and eating. The situation of the property is perfect for exploring the area, such as Caminito del Rey which is just 20 minutes down the road, and the nearby cities/towns of Ronda, Mijas, and Antequera. You will need a car for this property, be aware there are some roads which are curvy and steep (which we enjoyed on our drives). Overall a wonderful stay!

This was our second time staying at this beautiful place in the Andalusian countryside. Last time was winter which we loved at this time it was early summer which was also excellent as we were able to use the pool. The house is big enough for a number of people with three bedrooms and two large bathrooms. But it’s the location that is really spectacular. The view of the mountain right outside your door will stay with you long after you leave. The host is always helpful and on hand if you need anything. I am sure we will be going there again soon

This place is superb for a group of 6 people. It is quite close to the little town of El chorro has a fantastic view overlooking the valley. The house is very well appointed with two bathrooms and lots of space, lovely wood fired, good WiFi and Netflix for TV entertainment. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Only mild downside is occasional sulphurous smell from courtyard drain. We would definitely hire again if we come on another climbing trip.

We were so happy to stay at this beautiful place. We chose it because it was near to Caminito Del Rey. However it is worth staying there even if you are not interested on going on walks. The photos don’t do justice to the amazing location. It’s a very special and serene place. There are many places to go and visit nearby if that’s what you want to do but it’s a great place just to relax. We liked it so much we have already made another booking to come back! The hosts were very helpful and available at all times. The house itself is lovely and quite large. There are several great outdoor areas and of course the pool. We are looking forward to being there again soon.

This was our third attempt at booking this cottage (mainly due to COVID issues). It was well worth the wait. Exactly as the photos,if not better. Cottage as everything you need. Set in the mountains and the views are spectacular. The pool was our favourite, fantastic. Great WiFi too. We also enjoyed visits from the ibex & sometimes we could see the vultures. Colin was so helpful and always there if we needed advice. We also enjoyed a lovely meal with Colin & Francesca, such nice people. This is a perfect “ get away from it all and relax” holiday. Views are breath taking. Accommodation beautiful. Came close to lots of wild life including wild Goats, Eagles and Vultures. Pool was well received also. Lots to do locally. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed at this beautiful house for 10 days and wished we could have stayed for many more - even though it is secluded and you can enjoy complete privacy, the area is full of surprises. One day you might see baby wild goats passing through the garden, the next day vultures circling above the mountain top next to the house and so forth. It feels like one is in the middle of nature while still enjoying modern luxuries like the big (and deep enough to dive!) pool where we spent most of our days. The house itself is very cute and adorably decorated with wall paintings themed to each room, it is perfectly clean with big comfortable beds and strong warm showers. There is even AC which we did not use since the breeze was cool enough at night to sleep comfortably (we stayed in late June-early July). Moreover, Colin is the perfect host - helping us with any enquiry that we had while showing utmost respect for our privacy. We felt welcome and encouraged to enjoy the place to the fullest. A solid five-star vacation at a very reasonable price as well.

Wow, just wow! We met Colin who guided us up the mountainside into the relative quiet (crickets is all you hear and a wonderful strange whoosh as the wind wraps around the cliff side). The house was beyond expectations, so much room for just the four of us, and air conditioning meant no hot sticky nights! The ensuite shower was amazingly powerful and even though my husband is a 6'8" giant, he only hit his head once! The steps down to the pool....where I can honestly say I spent so much time swimming and reading, I think I lost weight! The local town with a few cafes and supermarkets was lovely and very 'untouristy' so practice your Spanish. The house, the pool, the view, the eagles flying overhead was simply marvellous, and I shall return! Thank you Colin and Francesca for your attentiveness (especially with the ants!) Bee xxx
