About this apartment rental
The apartment is located on Abades Street, in the heart of the Santa Cruz neighborhood, just a stone’s throw from the cathedral and the Giralda. It has a shared rooftop with a magnificent view of the Giralda
Santa Cruz is Seville’s most popular and bustling neighborhood, with its typical narrow streets, its stately houses, its flower-adorned courtyards, the murmur of its fountains, the scent of orange blossoms, and all the charm and legends that surround it.
It’s worth taking this stroll at a leisurely pace, getting lost in the streets and squares, and savoring every corner, every shadow, every scent, and every flavor.
We’ll start our walk through the Barrio Santa Cruz at Plaza Virgen de los Reyes, formerly known as Corral de los Olmos, very close to the Hotel Doña María. We recommend starting at the corner of Mateos Gago Street, where you’ll find the famous El Giraldillo restaurant and tapas bar—a Sevillian institution—from whose doorway you can enjoy the impressive view offered by the ornate central plaza, featuring an original fountain designed by Lafita, surrounded by the grandeur of Seville Cathedral, the Giralda, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Monastery of the Incarnation.
Convent of the Augustinian Nuns We enter the Santa Cruz neighborhood via Mateos Gago Street, with its souvenir shops, bars, and restaurants, which are a major tourist attraction. From here, you’ll have one of the best views of the Giralda. We pass through Plaza de la Alianza, formerly known as Plaza del Pozo Seco, which borders the wall of the Alcázar. We arrive at the iconic and oft-sung-about Plaza de Doña Elvira, the former Corral de Comedias, home to one of the most photographed houses in the Santa Cruz neighborhood and, according to popular legend, the birthplace of the mythical Doña Inés de Ulloa, the impossible love of Don Juan.
In this house, now numbered 6 and distinguished as the work of the famous architect Don Juan Talavera Heredia, creator of unique buildings in typical Sevillian architecture, is home to the Doña Elvira restaurant—a showcase of Sevillian cuisine and a must-visit for guests who wish to enjoy fine dining right in Plaza de Doña Elvira, surrounded by the scent of orange blossoms.
Also located on Plaza de Doña Elvira is the Elvira Plaza Boutique Hotel, a hotel now classified as a “charming hotel.”
Next to this hotel is the popular Vinela tapas and wine bar, with a terrace on Plaza Doña Elvira, where you can grab a bite to eat before continuing our tour.
"Oh, neighborhood of Santa Cruz, oh, Plaza de Doña Elvira, today I remember you once again, and I think it’s a lie...
As you continue our walk, several streets branch off from Plaza de Doña Elvira, all bearing names that draw us in:
Gloria Street, Vida Street, and Susona Street, the old “Street of Death.”
When we turn onto Gloria Street, we find the old Rincon del Beso, a spot once used by lovers for that very purpose. Thanks to a collaborative effort, the tradition has been preserved.
You must stop at number 6, a typical family home decorated with beautiful Sevillian tiles, which currently houses Casa Carmelo Tapas and Sevillana Gastronomy. A must-visit on the tapas route through the Barrio Santa Cruz and perhaps the only tapas bar in the neighborhood with free Wi-Fi.
Continuing along Gloria Street, we reach the heart of the Barrio Santa Cruz, the Plaza de los Venerables, which takes its name from the old hospital for venerable priests founded in 1675 by the canon of S. I. Seville Cathedral, named for St. Justin de Neve, is currently the headquarters of the FOCUS Foundation and features a beautiful courtyard with a fountain designed by Leonardo de Figueroa, a great Baroque architect.
In the Plaza de los Venerables, which is always very lively and bustling during the day, Don Juan Tenorio may have been born in the stately Sevillian house that now houses the Santa Cruz Restaurant & Tapas, where you can sample the finest dishes and
