Ferienwohnung Gimplbauer has everything going for it. The house itself is spacious, comfortable and (contrary to the usual holiday home experience) has a very nicely equipped kitchen. We liked sitting out on the balcony in the evening watching the stars with a glass or three of wine or beer as the kids slept soundly in their beds, before waking to farm-fresh milk from Laura the cow - who is almost as patient with the kids as Baerli the dog. The hosts are exceptionally accommodating and will go out of their way to treat you like family. The house is in a quiet valley a short hop over to Fuschlsee (about 5 min by car) or less than 15 min to Wolfgangsee. You can hike straight from the doorstep. I'd particularly recommend the hiking area around Zwoelferhorn - starting from Parkplatz Tiefbrunneau, less than 5 min from the house. There's a truly fantastic view of Wolfgangsee and a choice of Almhuetten to grab a bite to eat. We also enjoyed the bar/restaurant Bramsau-Braeu in nearby Faistenau, which has a great playground for the kids while you relax on the terrace and admire the surroundings. If you want a change of scenery from the great outdoors, Salzburg is nearby, with a number of castles, gardens, museums to visit (including kid friendly ones), concerts to enjoy (at least in more normal times) and an old town to mosey around. It's a perfect family holiday.
