Prorerty is a quant little cottage set in a fairly isolated area of the Yorkshire dales. Ideal place for walkers or a quiet break from a busy lifestyle. Cottage has everything you want. The only thing i would suggest is that it could do with an all over spruce up.

The cottage is in a quiet village location with fantastic views across Swaledale. The cottage is lovely and quirky and fully equipped. Plenty of paths to walk from the door step along the coast to coast route and to inns in Grinto and Reet.

Owning an older home myself, I'm in perfect sympathy with the owner's observations that it's difficult to keep a 200-year-old house free from "critters". But it is possible to do so, as I can attest, having spent much of the last 5 months staying in some amazing older B+Bs in the north. I "battled" spiders in the shower area two of my four nights. I think with some additional investment, this property has some nice potential, but on this particular stay I never did quite feel comfortable.

Wow what can I say, this was an amazing little find.
Authentic traditional charming Yorkshire cottage with gorgeous uninterrupted views across swaledale and beyond, we took the fabulous road from Leyburn to Grinton, views not to be missed.
The cottage was homely, this traditional stone cottage had all the amenities for modern day living without compromising the rustic structure, the kitchen is very well equipped, the bed was comfy, some of the best sleep we both had, with such calm and peace at night. The cottage has not been compromised, traditional walls and Features throughout making this a very special Yorkshire experience, the dogs loved the stone floor in the kitchen when the sun was beaming down, an easy to find location, parking through 2 wooden gates or roadside for large vehicles, lots of local walks without the need to drive, but for those wanting to spread out further it’s a really good base for any of the quaint little towns and beautiful dales.
Check in was easy, Gays directions and instructions where excellent, great communication while we were there, the WIFI was great, never let us down, great to have a smart tv got to catch up on our favourite TV.
If you want to take a step back from the rat run of city life or daily grind and want something relaxing and traditional this is the place to be.
Lovely flag stone garden for the dogs to have a rest between walking, we will definitely be returning.

While the cottage does have a certain charm and is of its age, this is no excuse for the health and hygiene issues that caused us to leave after just one night of the five nights we had booked.
The pictures in the listing were not representative of the reality of this property, which smelt strongly of damp, was covered in cobwebs (and spiders), had dead insects in the bathroom light fitting, and clearly has issue with mice/rats - which we heard in the ceiling & were concerned about immediately upon entering the property, owing to the many high sound frequency deterrent plug-ins placed around the property.
Having decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt, one of us was up coughing all night (undoubtedly linked to the damp and unclean state of the property).
The bed itself was comfortable and the lounge was cosy but we didn't not feel comfortable in the kitchen or bathroom areas due to the cleanliness and pest issues.
Having decided to leave the property early, we contacted the property owner to inform them. To her credit, she refunded us for the four nights we did not stay but only after initially stating she 'did not agree' with our complaints - even though she later confirmed she was unable to check the issues.
The property is in a in idyllic setting and could be a lovely escape but is currently in a state of disrepair and needs a deep clean. I would advise that any potential guests check with the owner that the issues described above have been resolved before booking.

Lovely rustic, quirky cottage in a tiny hamlet. Very warm and cosy thanks to the Esse range which I was just getting good at cooking with when we had to leave, loved it as did our dogs who were happy to curl up next to it all night! Plenty other options for cooking in the cottage, the microwave combo grill was a fantastic. Lovely walks from the doorstep, especially the path that takes you from Marrick to Grinton (approx 3 miles) for lunch at the Bridge in, dogs and muddy boots are welcomed inside but there are tables outside too. The downside was the path takes you through a farmyard which has an aggressive farm dog (black lab type called Sam) who bit our dog. Slightly spoiled the walk knowing we had to come back through on our way home, thankfully he wasn’t out! Communication with Gay was 1st class, even without a phone signal! If you are looking for perfection, this is not the cottage for you! It is a beautiful old cottage with spiders, steep stairs and no straight walls or level floors, we loved it!

We were disappointed with the cleanliness of this property and also the furniture, it was very mismatched and cheap. I spent our first day cleaning and removing spiders and cobwebs.
The kitchen was so cluttered we couldn't use any cupboards for food as they were full to bursting with so many dishes.
The beds were very clean and comfortable and this was lovely.
This cottage is beautiful and the location is stunning, we enjoyed local walks and the surrounding locations which was why I rated this holiday a yes I enjoyed my stay.
Rustic matching furniture and a major declutter and clean would have made this stay much better....I understand the cottage is rural but it can also be clean and tastefully decorated.
Guests do not need all that clutter in the kitchen.
A holiday is what you make it and we enjoyed our stay in the glorious Yorkshire Dales.

Amazing location, quaint cottage with all you'll need for your stay. I brought all food and laundry stuff I needed which was useful as no local shops. I'd highly recommend for walkers and couples looking for a refreshing break away from everything. Highly recommend visits to Reeth market Thursday mornings and Richmond any day for a variety of lovely shops and an interesting architecture ☺️👍

This farm cottage is a lovely hideaway and all you’d expect from an old building nestled amongst the farms. It’s wonderfully situated to walk many footpaths around Swaledale and soak up the beautiful landscapes. The cottage is comfortable, warm, and offers a real taste of a simpler country life.
The Esse cooker is certainly a cooking experience all on its own. Gaye has left excellent instructions.
The king size bed was very comfortable which is a refreshing change appreciated by us tall folk. There were one or two bumped heads on door frames when we forgot to duck!
Gaye was easily contacted when storms knocked out the power to the local water supply, and really couldn’t have been more helpful in reporting the problem and ensuring we were well taken care of.
We’d thoroughly recommend Rose Cottage to those wishing an authentic Yorkshire hamlet visit!

The house was superbly clean and absolutely lovely - was enchanted by it as was my husband. Beautiful inside and so much character. The area was surperb for walking our dog. The Dales were fantastic and our favourite place was Leyburn - cannot recomend this property highly enough. We would happily book it again. Great place in every sense of the word.

This was our second stay at Rose Cottage and it is a great base to explore the area. Set in a quiet village with 3 farms. From the garden at the front you can say hello to friendly walkers passing by on the coast to coast walk, see the sheep in the field opposite and watch the tractors. Occasionally sheep are driven along the lane. In the evening an owl landed on the telegraph pole, scanning the field below. The cottage is a step back in time with modern facilities and the beds are very comfortable.

We had a great week in this lovely cottage with country decor and traditional features, very warm and cosy. The Esse cooker is easy to use for casseroles and slow cooked meals. Modern options of electric wok, halogen cooker and microwave oven and grill. The king size bed is very comfortable. Good size enclosed front garden with off road parking was enjoyed for sitting out, safe for the dog, even with sheep and coast to coast walkers passing along the lane. Friendly neighbour too. We had good weather and did lots of walking and enjoyed a trip into Richmond. Would love to return.

We enjoyed our week very much, lovely warm comfortable cottage -very old and tastefully decorated to reflect its antiquity -very safe garden for our two dogs. House is equipped and the setting is idyllic - views of rolling hills from the garden and the local community is extremely friendly and welcoming - definitely given us a desire to return to the area very soon

Beautiful stay in the Dales
Beautiful stay in the Dales
Rose Cottage is a great base for walks and bike ride in the Dales. It’s a very quite and remote location and you would probably want to drive to Reeth as a starting point as Marrick. The cottage itself has everything you need for a base for a holiday. Although there wasn’t any Wi-fi during our stay and this affected BT TV. I did spend the first hour cleaning cobwebs from all the rooms as there were cobwebs everywhere including the kitchen cupboards. Maybe this is to be expected with an old building but I feel the cottage could really do with a spring clean especially if not used for a while. I was disappointed that when I emailed the owner regarding the Wi-fi and TV I did not get a reply. Also disappointed that cottage was so dirty. However the bedding and towels were clean.

A lovely quiet cottage in a lovely quiet location
Rose cottage is in a nice quiet village. The excessive traffic while we were there (We saw 3 cars and a woman jogging one morning) was wonderful. The cooker took a bit of getting used to but was marvellous once we got used to it. All in all a great cottage, we will be looking to book it for future breaks and holidays if it is available.

Quaint Cottage Lovely area
Rose Cottage is a typical Dales Cottage so don’t expect mod cons. This is the perfect getaway for a couple and a dog who just want to escape for a week. The Dales is a beautiful and set back in time area, and the Cottage is the perfect place to explore it from. My husband myself and our dog loved it, we mastered the Esse range quickly, my husband even made fresh bread which baked beautifully. We explored the area every day, visiting many places I had visited as a child, The Black Sheep Brewery (of course) The Yorkshire Cheese festival, many of the villages and we even drove up to Ravenseat to visit The Yorkshire Shepherdess and had a cream tea sat high up in Swaledale. The Cottage, whilst basic, has everything you need, is warm and cosy, and very quiet, perfect for us as we just wanted to escape to a quiet and isolated area. Highly recommended

Remote and peaceful
Remote and peaceful
This holiday cottage certainly is in an beautiful setting, sitting in the front garden and looking out over the Dales on a warm summers evening was just bliss. Be prepared to drive for a while if you want to visit places as it is remote but again I love driving through the Dales so not an issue for us. The cottage is well equipped and nice clean towels were provided. Was also lovely to receive a welcoming bottle of wine and cake. Thank you for that it was most appreciated.
There are only a couple of downsides to this cottage in my opinion, first being the heating is constantly on even when it’s switched off. Unfortunately even though a fan was provided it was still too warm in our bedroom making sleep a bit of a problem!! The welcome pack said the ESSE cooker takes half hour to heat up ready for cooking, I would suggest this is changed to an hour! I loved cooking on it but you really have to think ahead and if you’ve been out all day then have to wait an hour before you can start cooking it becomes a bit of a pain, and I know there is an alternative microwave/oven/grill but I’m not a fan of cooking in these things plus it doesn’t have a hob facility. I also feel the kitchen cupboards could of done with a bit of a clean as they were very cobwebby and quite a bit of debris in them, so I felt I had to wash things before I used them another problem and this is a problem I find in a lot of rental cottages I have stayed in is in the kitchen cupboards are so full up with crockery, bowls etc that there is hardly any room to put your shopping, as we have dogs we don’t eat out so we have to cook in the cottage so having to find room for our food so it wasn’t left out on the side was a bit of a pain.
I also felt the garden could of done with a bit of a tidy up as it was rather weedy in places, again I now it’s in the countryside and it’s a cottage garden but would of been nice not to have seen so many weeds when sitting out.
Overall all we enjoyed our stay and if those few issues we addressed that I have mentioned then it would of got a 5 out of 5.

Beautiful area with wonderful views from the cottage. Warm and cosy with loads of hot water, pristine bedding & towels and very comfortable bed! Good position for touring - we visited Rippon, Fountains Abbey, Barnard Castle for Bowes Museum, York, Durham and Richmond. Reeth was a dear little place with a superb Cafe - the Copper Kettle. Definitely recommend Rose Cottage.

Have nothing but praise for the cottage, it's location and the views. Visited with partner and son who were new to the Dales and they have both left with happy memories of our 10 day stay.
The cottage is everything we hoped for and more! I cannot fault it and would certainly recommend it for the idyllic place to unwind and escape the pace of " normal " life.

Relaxing and cosy traditional dales cottage.
Beautiful quirky cottage in idyllic surroundings. We booked for 4 nights but sadly had to leave after 2 , due to a family emergency so did not get to enjoy the full experience of this cosy cottage. Only (small) downside for me personally was the heat , as the esse range has to be on permanently which meant radiators were hot all the time. We were lucky enough to have good weather , so it was a bit 'too' cosy. Be marvellous on a cold autumn day though! That aside, a truly lovely traditional dales cottage, well equipped, and all you can hear are birds and sheep. So relaxing. We hope to visit again.

Lovely little cottage in a quiet village with outstanding views of Swaledale. Well equipped and comfortable and the Esse stove cooked well when at full heat and provided cosy background heat when not turned up for cooking. There were other ways of cooking besides the Esse range, a microwave, halogen oven and electric wok but we liked the Esse. The South facing garden was the ideal place to sit in the afternoon after visiting local towns and villages. The walkers passing by on the Coast to Coast path were of all ages and nationalities. There were many footpaths in the area which we explored with our dog and lots of lambs to keep us entertained with their antics. The cottage had free WiFi and a good digital televison plus film channel. We were lucky with the weather but could imagine it would be a nice place to stay at anytime of year.

Perfect hideaway in a beautiful character cottage with great walking opportunities
From the moment I arrived at Rose Cottage, I was planning my return visit. The cottage has been owned by the same family for nearly 70 years and is consequently very much loved and very homely. It is wonderfully honest and quirky with lots of traditional features and was a joy to stay in. The kitchen was well equipped with a range to cook on and a dresser of pretty china. Everything was easy and straightforward and the cottage was cosy, comfortable and a home from home. The front garden has a beautiful view and there are many footpaths just outside the gate which made it a great place for walking circular routes or further afield being situated right on the Coast to Coast. I can't wait to return as this is a truly secret place to get away from it all.
