About this cottage rental
Our cozy holiday home is located in Los Alcornocales Nature Reserve, in the municipality of Tarifa. Tastefully renovated in 2014 in a modern style, it accommodates a couple in the main bedroom plus a 3rd or even a 4th person in a secondary room. Guests have access to a private terrace, to a shared swimming pool and 2000m2 of private land. This is a great destination to relax and enjoy nature, while at the same time a convenient base from where to enjoy the town of Tarifa and its beaches.
La casa del Alcornoque offers a privileged location in an unspoiled natural environment combining the traditional construction style typical of the region with a modern and comfortable interior design.
The accommodation has two levels: a main bedroom is located upstairs, while in the ground floor there is a living room with chimney, a kitchen with dining table and a studio room which can also double as secondary bedroom with up to two extra beds.
The living room, the main bedroom and the private terrace all have great views with the Strait of Gibraltar in the background. The guests have at their disposal a shared swimming pool and other common spaces of the 2000m2 parcel such as the patio at the entrance and fruit trees scattered around the space (custard apple, pear, fig trees, …).
La Casa del Alcornoque is surrounded by wooded meadow in a part of the Alcornocales Natural Reserve known to locals as “La Ahumada”, full of cork oaks, holm oaks and many other Mediterranean species, which is public land and thus open for our guests to explore freely.
La casa del Alcornoque is located in a parcel of land that includes a second vacation house and a ceramic workshop, and on which we sometimes undertake the necessary gardening and maintenance works to keep the estate in good conditions.
In another part of the estate we are fostering a few cats, which you may encounter in the common facilities and the private terrace. The house is in a rural setting, therefore in the public land outside of the estate you may encounter livestock (in all certainty goats, but perhaps also the occasional cow, pig, donkey or horse).
Our holiday house is pet friendly.
The wooded meadow of La Ahumada, the land around our vacation house, is located within the boundaries of the municipality of Tarifa, in the southern part of Los Alcornocales Natural Reserve near the Mediterranean Sea. Its landscape is characterised by hills with groves of cork oaks, Portuguese oaks, Pyrenean oaks, olive trees and brushwood such as heathers and rockroses.
The area (classified as Special Protection Areas for Birds) is well known for its avifauna, both resident (for example the griffon vulture) and migrating during the autumn and spring seasons (short-toed snake eagle, black stork, booted eagle, sparrowhawk, European kestrel, and many others).
La Ahumada is home to plenty of trails for walking and bike riding across scenic landscapes and distinctive native habitats.
There are approximately 40 houses in La Ahumada, dispersed over several hills.
La casa del Alcornoque cannot be reached by public means of transportation, therefore a private car is required. Many of our guests rent the car directly upon landing in the airport.
Alternatively, the closest location to rent a car is in the city of Algeciras.The distance between La casa del Alcornoque and the town of Tarifa is about 10km - the first three km, still within the Natural Reserve, along the rural road CA-2215, and the remaining seven km along the national highway N-340, which directly leads to Tarifa and its beaches.

Owners very helpful. Always available but never in the way. If you want to get back to nature this is the pomace for you. Great beaches within 20 mins drive.

We spent ten days at El Chapparo and the only issue was the road, but if you go slow its okay. The property is situated in beautiful countryside amongst the cork oaks with many wild flowers. We enjoyed pleasant walks in the hills. The property is lovely with fantastic views down the valley to the sea and even across it to North Africa. There is a secluded seating area which is perfect for watching the eagles and vultures as well as the domestic animals from the nearby farm. It is so peaceful, the only noise is the bells on the goats which is just lovely. There is a log burner and wood is supplied, so on a couple of cool evenings we had a fire, which makes the bedroom in the loft area very warm. During our stay we had several walks in Tarifa, along the beach and round the old town. There are three good supermarkets in the town so plenty options for shopping.We explored the local area and would definately reccomend it if you are looking for a holiday away from busy resorts
