Ella Secret Paradise

This place is located not far from city. Room is nice and clean located in the midst of a valley; surrounded by nature. The host Nalin is accommodating and is able to arrange tuk tuk from you. The best highlight of this stay for us is the breakfast arranged personally by the host; it is the best highlight for our whole Sri Lankan trip.

The pathway to property is not flat due to construction; big luggage may not be easy to carry but Nalin will help you. I confirmed with the host that a complete pathway will be available soon.

The location is wonderful, 10-15 minute walk to Ella and the property is in a peaceful oasis surrounded by nature. The breakfast was a highlight, lots of delicious, fresh options provided by the host. The host is also very attentive and helpful and clearly looks after the property very well.

I liked everything about the property. Wouldn’t change a thing.

It really is a secret paradise in Ella! Tucked away from the main road, Ella Secret Paradise has two lovely rooms with en suites and a wonderful dining area outside, where you can look out over the jungle and listen to all the birds. We even saw porcupines one evening! Nalin, our host, was incredibly welcoming and hardworking, providing us with recommendations of things to do, organising transport, and serving delicious breakfast. He also managed to do our 6 kilos of laundry in less than 48 hours! We would all like to thank him and his family for our stay.

There is a lot of moisture in the air, probably made worse by the rain when we were there, so damp clothes did not really dry - however, this is not a criticism of Nalin or the accommodation, and there was a hair dryer provided in the room!

The room is one of two, attached to the owners house. It is clean and compact. The bed was comfortable for me, and I slept well.

I can not understand how this and other properties in Sri Lanka are getting such high reviews. Come on people lets help each other out and give honest representations. I was contacted by the owner for a time of arrival, and I informed him 3pm, to which he replied OK. On arrival at 3.10, the room was not ready, and we had to sit outside for 40 minutes while it was prepared. Then we were informed there was a problem with water pressure, and we could only shower with a dribble from the hand-held shower. The owner said the plumber would come at 6 pm. We then walked into Ella (20 mins) for dinner. On our return, the plumber had not been, and the owner said he would come at 7.30 in the morning and could we unlock our door! I told him this would NOT be happening. On top of this, there are gaps around the doors. The bathroom window is filthy, does not shut, and has no insect screen. Consequently, we ended up with a large number of mosquitoes in the room. Luckily, it had a net for the bed. The property is along a 300 metre concrete path, which ends abruptly, and the last 30 metres are down a steep, uneven rocky path of around 30 to 40% gradient. Yes, the owner is friendly, almost too friendly, but this is in no way an excellent or superb property. The owner did give us a 2000 rupees discount.
