Taksim Istanbul Nis Hotel - Istiklal Street

Location, first of all (reason for which we chose this hotel). Very close to Taksim Square, a very convenient transportation node (metro, buses, or funicular to the Karakoy port). The staff were very kind and helpful. Safety of the area was another plus.

In some places on the walls and ceiling, the plaster had fallen off. The light in the bathroom was too dim.

We stayed in this hotel for one night on our way from Moscow to Greece. Its location is very convenient if you come from IST by metro or by Havaist. It's also convenient if you want to see Sultanahmet as it was in our case. The hotel was clean and the bathroom was quite comfortable to use.

We booked a room with a kitchen because I have serious stomach problems and can't eat Turkish food which is fried and spicy. In fact it was impossible to cook. There was a cooker and a sink in the room but no dishes or pots at all. We only had two plastic cups and saucers for three people. There wasn't a kettle so it was impossible to make tea. It was the main disadvantage for me. Others were minor but I still want to mention them. When we checked in, there was only one towel in the bathroom and we had to ask for more. The shampoo container in the shower cabin was empty.

Great rooms and very clean. Amazing friendly staff. Location is very convenient for siteseeing and public transport. The breakfast is fresh with a good variety. Would definitely stay here again when I'm in Istanbul.

Good location near Taksim square and very good breakfast with various options. Staff are friendly and helpful. Beds quite comfortable.

Based on reviews I was expecting more from this hotel. The walk to Taksim square was under five minutes, but is a reasonably steep walk. The hotel itself is in need of an update generally, particularly certain important comforts. I would not book a room with a terrace unless for say smokers, as the terraces are not pleasant to sit in - the views are nothing special, and bathrooms in these rooms had issues (one had bad odour and no sink plug, another had a tiny shower and both had mould). Regular rooms might be ok. The foyers had no lights making it dingy and difficult to find locks in the doors. Rooms were stuffy with air conditioners that are not very powerful and would struggle in Summer.
