The Riverdeck Accommodation and Backpackers

The place was quaint and rustic but everything worked well and the place had everything to enhance our comfort. An electric blanket warmed our room so on returning we got into a warm bed. The bath was lovely and hot and we had bottled water to drink in our room.

The access from the parking was a little awkward but doable.

I booked the little cottage by the river. I loved it set between the banana trees! It is small, but quite well organised and space optimised. it is clean and comfy, but very cold at night. That's a chance that they were providing extra blanket! The restaurant has a stunning setting by the river. You can rent a kayak to paddle on the river.

There was no towel provided. The toilet paper was running out in most of the toilets.

Picturesque setting and buildings. Beautiful, rustic decor of rooms. Excellent location.

A bit of a walk on an uneven surface from your car to your room.

The spacious wooden deck under the huge tree with views of the river and mountain and trees as well as the abundance of birds and wildlife and Buffel's Bay just a few kilometres away is perfect. The braai area on the lower level is also an asset. The restaurant and bar is a good asset as well as the canoes that can be rented.

We stayed in the old cottage (Pomphuis) that included two permanent tents. The accommodation needs urgent upgrading. The gas geyser does not work properly and all the plumbing needs to be replaced. A good, working shower is essential. The extra outside bathroom is a good idea but needs a complete overhaul. The multiplug in the kitchen needs to be replaced as well as the rusty two plate stove. The tents need to be replaced with new ones as most of the zips are broken that give creepy crawlies access to your tent. The cottage and property cannot be locked properly when you leave it.. Security and privacy should be improved.
