About this house rental
Coopers Knowe House sleeps up to 10 in five spacious double bedrooms, each of which has its own en suite. Sitting directly on the shores of Lochailort, a sea loch in the Scottish Highlands just north of the Ardnamurchan peninsular, about 30 miles from Fort William, our location is perfect for those with a passion for the outdoors: for those who enjoy walking, sea kayaking, fishing, exploring on foot, on the water or in a car. But the house and the area will also be enjoyed by anyone seeking to relax in a beautiful, quiet and peaceful setting. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the stunning local scenery and there are breath-taking views from more or less every window. The house sits on its own private estate of some 60 acres. There is a pebble beach directly in front of the house and another with white sand a short walk away. Guests enjoy fixtures and furnishings of a very high standard as well as a choice of two sitting rooms, a dining room, breakfasting kitchen and a games room complete with pool table with table tennis top and additional TV. Day trip options include Skye, the small isles of Rhum, Eigg and Muck, a tour of the Ardnamurchan peninsular and for the Harry Potter fan a journey on the Jacobite Steam Train over the Glenfinnan viaduct. Within a short drive of the house there are a number of fantastic inns, restaurants and hotels providing good food ranging from traditional pub fare to fine dining.

Home from home but on a much bigger scale, great house with all you need. 9 of us stayed 3 generations from 2yrs to 61 yrs and 2 German shepherds who loved the garden and the woods. It as great views and walks from the house.
It is remote that's why we booked it, so be prepared to travel half hour to Mallaig and 45mins to fort william, has i say we like to be remote.

We have stayed in many houses over the years and this house beats them all. The ability to walk down to the shore, through the woods to the bay, and up the hills behind is magical. Even when it rained all day, as it did of course, there are so many glass doors and windows it doesn’t seem depressing. We strongly recommend Coopers Knowe

The whole family (all ages) had a great time. Plenty to do out and about. House was lovely and very well stocked. The children especially enjoyed seeing the deers in the garden. Supply of games to keep everyone amused if needed. We were very fortunate with the weather. Pat was only a phone call away if needed. Great stay

Fabulous property, stunning setting.
Fabulous property, stunning setting.
This is a wonderful place to stay as can be seen from the photo gallery which really doesn't do it full justice. There were 10 of us across 3 generations accommodated in 5 en-suite bedrooms. The kitchen is well appointed with all mod-cons and an almost endless supply of crockery, cutlery and glassware. An additional fridge-freezer in the garage mops up the bottles and cans of drinks and anything else needing cold storage. Off the garage is an ever warm drying room, part of the heat exchange hot water and heating system. There are two sitting rooms, one a snug with TV etc, the other, with big views of the Loch less than 100metres away. We were treated to an otter hunting, eating crabs and fish one evening. Red deer in the garden were an everyday occurrence.
All rooms are luxurious, tastefully furnished, spacious and comfortable. In a separate annex is a games room with deep sofas for spectators of the darts, snooker and table-tennis tournaments we enjoyed.
A short (muddy after rain) 10 minute walk takes you to a deserted sandy beach often visited by an otter, with rock pools to be explored. We paddle boarded from both the sandy and the pebble beaches.
The owners were great communicators ahead of and during our visit, and left a wealth of helpful information in the house book. We were also welcomed most generously, but unexpectedly, with gifts of whisky, wine and shortbread. Such personal touches are so very much appreciated.
The area offers much to enjoy and explore. The Hogwarts Express runs twice daily between Mallaig and Fort William to the delight of the Harry Potter fans in our party while a boat cruise from Arisaig yielded dolphins and porpoises, but the Minke whales had moved away that day. Glenuig with its Inn and Community shop is well worth a visit.
The weather during our stay was dull, cold and mostly rainy, but never kept us in or inactive and anyway the house is warm and cosy.
All in all, a wonderful holiday had by all, but please keep it a secret or Cooper's Knowe will book years in advance and we'll never get to stay again!

Lovely house with detached games room in a great location. It was perfect for our four generations of family and we had some really lovely weather and little or no midges. Only negative of the trip was that we needed to thoroughly clean the kitchen on arrival as it was as things like the ovens and extractor hood were not very clean at all.

We were on a family holiday and the house and games room couldn’t have been better. The best thought out and equipped rental we have stayed in.
The views are stunning and we were blessed with good weather and no midges.
Communication with Pat was first class from start to finish. Walking through woods to Sandy Cove, deer appearing every evening, it’s idyllic.
Local pub Glenuig Inn was 6 minutes drive away and created a great impression with us all from toddler to grandparents.
Fantastic all round.

Coopers Knowe is a truly beautiful place to be. The house itself is spacious, very well-equipped, tastefully decorated, and comfortable (both when awake and asleep). Its location is just breathtaking. The views over the loch to the hills beyond never grow old, and the ever-changing Scottish weather painted the view with different textures each day.
We shared the garden with a small family of local deer, including on a couple of days a young male we nicknamed Bambo the Alpha Buck due to his willingness to stare down our dog, who really didn’t know what to make of him. It was very funny to watch.
The purpose of our time at Coopers Knowe was to unwind and relax, and we managed that perfectly. We did a few trips out to Glenfinnan, Mull, and Tioram Castle, but we spent most time in and around the house, often walking to the wonderful little sandy beach that was 10-minutes walk away. The family enjoyed combing the beach for shells.
Pat was a fantastic host - very quick to respond, and very thoughtful. We felt well looked after. She also provided us with a huge amount of information to orientate us in the house and give us ideas for things to do and places to shop and eat.
All in all, a wonderful stay in a lovely house in a beautiful place with a caring host. Can’t ask for more, really.

Spacious well presented home in beautiful Highland setting!
We stayed at Coopers Knowe as a multi generational family and enjoyed the amenities and comfort of this delightful home - very much a home away from home. The location is idyllic for some R&R and affords some spectacular Highland views at its doorstep. Pat was very helpful with information needed before and during the stay and made sure we were comfortable.
We will definitely return again in the future to Coopers Knowe!

Enjoyed our week in The Highlands. Beautiful property with large bedrooms, well equipped kitchen and stunning views of the loch and the nearby mountain. The location is perfect if you like peace and quiet. I would recommend a visit to Mallaig, as it had a good selection of places to eat and Corpach for stunning views of Ben Nevis.

This is a really special place, both the location and the house itself.
It's so comfortable and well equipped and great for a family group. Having good public rooms means there is plenty space for socialising.
The ground floor bedroom was ideal for my elderly father and the rest of us were very happy with our bedrooms and en-suites.
The outside space is fabulous, being able to walk along the beach and enjoy the stunning scenery was a real treat for the humans and the dogs.
Looking forward to a return visit.

We were looking for a substantial, quality property in which to celebrate my 70th birthday with the family. We were a party of ten adults (ages ranging from 39 to 69) plus our darling fifteen-month-old granddaughter. The location was also important to us as we wanted to enjoy some tranquillity with stunning views. The property was perfectly set up for our party - even the extra bathroom was utilised. We loved the massive lounge which was so comfortable and where we chilled out in the evenings. We didn’t make much use of the separate television lounge nor the well-appointed games room which is in a separate building. We ate in most evenings and found the kitchen worked well, although we did have to store some of our considerable alcohol supplies on the porch as we couldn’t squeeze it all in the fridge. The bulk of our shopping was done either at Morrison’s in Fort William or the Co-Op in Mallaig. The family all loved their rooms, in particular the two large rooms at each end of the property with their balconies and views over Loch Ailort. We would certainly recommend the property to like-minded families, but would choose to visit in the summer months when we could enjoy the outdoor facilities and activities on offer and perhaps see more of the local wildlife (it was mid-December and we only had about 61/2 hours of daylight). There was a nice touch of a welcome pack provided by the owners, who had also arranged for the house to be dressed for Christmas. Thank you!

The perfect house to enjoy a great family holiday in the Highlands in a great location with superb views all around. our second visit and most enjoyable. Pat and Robert are the perfect hosts and the house is very well equipped. The games room proved to be very popular again. We saw stags near the property several times during the week and the trek to Bobs beach was worth it even though it was quite boggy in places. All in all a fabulous week in a fabulous place.

Absolutely wonderful and unique location. The house is very up to date, extremely well equipped.
We stayed in the house for one week in May 2017. The house is superbly located on the south side of loch Ailort. We Kayak, walk for recreation and this location is well suited for that, also close to Glenuig and Arisaig for food and bars. We had hot weather so were able to spend a couple of days using the sandy beach on the property and swam from the beach. There are Corbetts to climb nearby and the views from the top are stunning.
The house itself is modern, with plenty of space and extremely well equipped for cooking which we did most nights. It was the perfect place to be for a family reunion.

A splendid and special place
A splendid and special place
From the moment we arrived, we knew that Coopers Knowe House was a special place. Well-designed and well-equipped, the property had all we needed. Having an en-suite bathroom or shower room for each bedroom was excellent, and the modern design provided masses of living space - large lounge, dining room, kitchen and 'snug' - where we could be together or separate as the mood took us.
The covered area allows outdoor dining even when the weather is damp, while the separate games room provides entertainment on wet days.
With its own grounds, woodland, fields and the loch (diverse birds, seals and an otter to entertain us) only a very short walk away, it would be possible to spend a very happy holiday without leaving the house and its surroundings.
That of course would be to miss local attractions such as Ben Nevis, the steam railway, the excellent inn at Glenuig, the iconic Ardnamurchan lighthouse and - thanks to Caledonian MacBrayne ferries - trips to Mull, Rum, Skye and many other islands.
Will we be going back? I very much hope so.

Coopers Knowe House was a fantastic house in a great location for our family's holiday in Scotland. There were 8 of us in total, 6 adults, a 6 year old and a 2 year old. The house was well-equipped with everything we needed for a wonderful holiday. The bedrooms were spacious and it was a real treat to have our own bathrooms. The living room was very comfortable to relax in during the evenings. The children also enjoyed having their own living room where they could watch television and play games.
There is plenty of wildlife to see around the house, otters, deer, a fox and various birds. 5 minutes walk from the house is a beautiful sandy beach with views of Eigg and Rhum which we visited regularly as the weather was so warm.
The house has everything you could ever need. We have already booked to return next year!

Cooper's Knowe is a dream home in a magical setting. I could hardly believe my eyes each time I looked out the windows. The booking, correspondence with owners and arrival all went seamlessly. We felt completely cared for by the owner and caretaker. Both went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The home and surroundings exceeded our expectations. It was exceptional to have all the amenities, space and peace we desired in a rural area. We stayed in, ventured out to the 'secret beach' and beyond as it suited us. Life is good at Cooper's Knowe!
Our party consisted of two adults and two young children (6 months and 2 years).
Thank you!

This home feels like you've walked into a new home in your own little paradise for a week or two. It's beautiful, spacious and well though-through inside and is in a great setting by a Scottish loch. An outstanding house in a wonderful location
We had an exceptional stay in this wonderfully presented house. Two grandchildren aged one and two loved it and with wooden floors and spaciousness it was ideal for them. The older generation were able to escape to the sittingroom with its stunning views or to one of the fabulous en suite bedrooms. Everything was immaculate when we arrived and the owner could not have been more helpful. Our young went kayaking off the beach in front of the house and enjoyed watching the otter. Lovely walks and so much to explore. Went on the Jacobite train between glenfinnan and arisaig - just ask the guard as the train stops at glenfinnan for ten minutes and we just stood at the door for £10 each. The glenuig community shop has milk and all essentials and only 5 mins away. A luxury house in tip top condition - we were lucky to find it.
