Shower area can be improved by using shower door instead of curtain so that water doesn’t flood the bathroom after each shower shower.

A warm and memorable stay with amazing hosts, beautiful lake views, and heartfelt hospitality.

We arrived quite late after a long journey that started in Sarandë in the morning, included a stop in Berat, and ended with crossing the border into North Macedonia all in one day. Even though it was late, we were warmly welcomed by Risto, a local truly passionate about his land. He kindly offered us his homemade wine, which was excellent, and we immediately felt at home. During our conversation, we even learned that we were the first Brazilians to stay at his guest house in its 20 years of existence, such a special moment! The room was lovely, and the view of Lake Ohrid was simply incredible. Breakfast was perfect, lovingly prepared by Anita, who is such a kind and cheerful person. Overall, it was a wonderful stay filled with warm hospitality, great conversations, and unforgettable views. I wish I could stay longer.

The only downside was that smoking is allowed during breakfast. Personally, I found it uncomfortable to smell cigarette smoke while eating, especially in the morning.

great local stay at Lake Ohrid

Great place for visiting Lake Ohrid. The road up there might be a bit complicated the first time but you won't regret it once you get there. Great breakfast, very nice owners and some crazy Balkans stories you can hear from them :)

This is the real North Macedonia

On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Anita and promptly presented with glasses and a carafe of their delicious homemade red wine ..... very smooth and delicious. Risto took our bags upstairs to one of their family suites with balcony overlooking lake and village, perfectly situated to watch the sunsets. Beds were really comfy and showers super powerful. We liked seeing real village life and local culture. The donkeys were lovely, very well cared for. And we were lucky to be there to observe (and accidentally join in) some of the pre-wedding celebrations, although missed seeing the wedding itself as we had to catch our flight home.

A beautiful piece of Macedonia

The accommodation was big and spacious, with a huge private balcony overlooking an amazing view, surrounded by flowers, plants, and wildlife. Anita and Risto are the perfect hosts. They look after you from start to finish without being pushy. They are natural hosts and seem to enjoy being around their guests and making their holiday special Their homemade food is amazing. Listen to them when they give you tips for places to visit.

Risto's Guest House was mesmerising, we enjoyed our vacation there. Anita and Risto are wonderful, they went above and beyond for me and mz family and we really felt like we are at our own home. Rooms are big and clean, view is spectacular.

a very relaxed holiday, one of the best in years

A guest hause with a differance. We had long talks with both Risto and Anita, learnt a lot about Masadonia and Ohrid and enjoyed lots of jokes and fun with them and other guests. The veiw by evening meal over the lake into the setting was so beatiful. the local people was so open and friendly. A little piece of heaven and we will return hopefully soon

A wonderful Macedonian hospitality experience. 10/10!

The hosts were wonderful. Both riste and anita were lovely genuine people. Would recommend it to all foreigners that look for a great macedonian hospitality experience. Also Anita is a great cook and served us with a lovely local breakfast. We were situated in the apartment in the annex building which was very spacious and had an enormous balcony overviewing the lake.

Heaven

Thank you so much Anita and Risto for an amazing stay at your guest house. We felt like family and enjoyed every moment we spent with you! The room is big and clean, the balcony has a great lake view and the guest house is in a super quiet and calm area. You reach the lake by car within 5 minutes and the house is the perfect starting point for hikes. Coffe, water and tee are always available for free and the house is super for families, small children and everyone else! We never in our lives had better breakfest and dinner and we can only recommend staying at Risto's Guest House!!

A little gem of a guest house with a stunning lake view!

Located in Elshani village up in the hills a few km away from Ohrid, if you don't mind to be in the hustle and bustle of the town then this place might be for you. You would ideally need a car to move around but you can also use the (not too frequent) Ohrid-Elshani bus service, we stayed only 3 days and we would take the bus to Ohrid in the morning at about 9:00 and the return bus to Elshani at about 20:00, the cost was very low. Our family bedroom with balcony was tidy, very spacious and had a fantastic lake view (but no tv). Anita the landlady is lovely, very welcoming and a great cook, she was very friendly with our kids as if we had known each other for a long time. We tried her food (dinner - extra cost) and it was great. The included breakfast was also very satisfying and quite generous, with plenty of sweet and savoury options, and almost everything is home-made. Coffee (filter and Balkan-style) is available all day all the time for free upon request. We also had a brief chat with Risto on our 1st day, he is a fairly down-to-earth and friendly guy. We can recommend this guest house to anybody wholeheartedly. P.S. As we have children and as there's no airport bus service to Ohrid town, we came here by taxi (MKD 1000 / 20-25 minutes).

The bin in our bedroom was TINY and filled up quickly, Anita says she only empties it if you ask her, otherwise it would get emptied after your departure, so if you want it emptied regularly make sure you speak to her ;) Our beds didn't have duvets, but the "old style" sheets and blankets, I personally found this slightly inconvenient as they move around all the time and get easily messed up, I did mention this to Anita but she wasn't sure about the meaning of the word "duvet". Also, the sheets and blankets were a bit short (and we're average-height people).

Anita's hospitallity was amazing! You can litteraly die from the amount of food, no words for the qualitty of the meals! Anita is professional shef! Warming welcome, even warmer good buy! Bella (the dog) is friendly as hell! Room tidy and clean, fresh air, hiking, free parking, room view, lake is close (by car)... everything was exelent!

Our expectations for our stay at Risto's Guest House were totally exceeded by the wonderful and warm welcome from Anita (Risto's wife), who is the absolute brains of the operation in this facility! Anita was one of the sweetest and most helpful hosts I have ever met. Her diligence and sincerity made our stay unforgettable - from the delicious breakfast she served every morning, the amazing dinner she cooked for us, to all the amusing and emotional conversations we've had during our stay - she made us feel completely at home and at ease. The house itself is very beautiful: I loved the wood and stone work in the sitting area (terrace), the amazing view to Ohrid lake, the spacious garden beneath the terrace as well as the beautiful plants and flowers decorating the whole outside area. Our room was super clean and spacious with a private terrace overlooking Ohrid lake. The location of the house is amazing, too, not merely for the magnificent views that it offers, but also for the magical village setting surrounding it, as well as its proximity to hiking trails that lead to several peaks of Galichica mountain and national park. If you're looking to spend an unconventional holiday that brings village, lake and mountain tourism together in one, Risto's Guest House is the perfect pick for you!

If you stay at Risto's Guest House it'll be one of those experiences that you will probably never forget. From the first moment on we felt very welcome. You get a coffee and a sweet on arrival (coffee is free of charge for your whole stay, anyway) and both Anita and Risto are determined to explain you everything that you need to know, from checking the bus schedule to showing you the way to the hiking trails to explaining everything you want to now about local culture. In addition to being a great host, Anita is also a quite exquisite chef. The first night we had the "traditional menu", which was a fantastic symphony of different plates (just too much to eat, but hey, this is how it is done everywhere in the Balkans). Also, breakfast is served with passion and the most important ingredient in any food - heart. Furthermore, the location of the Guest House is perfect. It is situated high above Lake Ohrid in the quiet and very pittoresk town of Elshani. If you want to avoid the big hotels and tourist streams along the lake shore and want to enjoy a great view from a lovely terrace instead, then we highly recommend coming to this place, you won't regret it. There is a bus that goes up to Elshani from Ohrid roughly ten times a day, more than enough, if you are not in a hurry (which you shouldn't be during your holidays). Also, the surroundings are fantastic. We stayed at Risto's Guest House for three nights. The day of our arrival (we arrived in the afternoon), we took a stroll through the town and then had dinner at the Guest House, the second day we went to Ohrid in the morning and spent a few hours there, in the afternoon we continued to the monastery of Sveti Naum before going back to Ohrid to have dinner and on the third day we hiked to a viewpoint, from where you can enjoy the views of both Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa. All in all it was a fantastic stay at Risto's Guest House and we could have stayed there for much longer!

Wonderful!

Beautifully located B&B, friendly and hard-working hosts, delicious cooking, clean rooms, peaceful village. Very nice veranda, where host Anita serves breakfast, diner (on request) etc., with a wonderful view. Large lawn and parking space. Anita's cooking is really quite something; it's all seasonal, tasty and home made and she provides a great variety of things to enjoy. Much better than some of the restaurants in the area, certainly more choice within one meal! Owners organise hikes and donkey rides as well. The donkeys bray a few times in the morning, which adds to the village feel of the place. In the evening one can hear the crickets chirping loudly. We had a very nice, spacious room, good beds and nice sheets, good pillow. Good curtains. Our very own balcony with view onto Lake Ohrid! Room, balcony and bathroom were very clean. We had air conditioner which we only needed on the day of arrival for a few minutes. It works well. It's a longish ride up a narrow windy lane to get to Elshani, but if you're a good driver and your car is not excessively wide you should be able to get to this wonderful spot without any problems.

The water in the shower basin filled up quickly and took long to drain. However, we tried to take this into account and used the water only short times in one go. Bathroom was simple but clean and we needed no more.

Location away from the city was a huge advantage for me. Peace and quiet and much cooler than in the city (I was in a very hot period). Beautiful view of the Ohrid lake. Family atmosphere, very good contact with the owner. The apartment is very large and comfortable. The food served by Anita is excellent, also for vegetarians.

Alles, angefangen beim Zimmer, der Ausstattung, die tolle ruhige Lage, Blick auf den See, komfortable Größe, super sauber und das Essen ist ein Traum, wer es versäumt, hat wirklich was verpasst, das Frühstück lässt keine Wünsche offen und ist abwechslungsreich und sehr reichhaltig und unsere Gastgeberin war einfach toll !!! Herzlich, informativ immer mit den passenden Infos und Ideen zur Hand, z. B. Wo man kostenlos parken kann in Ohrid, zu welcher Zeit man das Kloster am besten besuchen sollte etc. Sie spricht einwandfreies Englisch und wir haben uns rundherum wohl gefühlt - Danke !!!
