R & R (Rest & Relax) Guesthouse

Wonderful owner of a clean and cozy hotel in Larena, Siquijor. I initially chose this place because it was close to the port. However, I subsequently learned that the port of Larena was the former port for tourist ferries. The port of Larena is now used by commercial boats. The port of the town of Siquijor now handles tourist ferries and is 10 km away from this place. The bed was comfortable and the owner provided me with hot mineral water for me to make my morning coffee. She allowed me to share her dining room table where I had breakfast with her during my stay. I bought the bread that I had for breakfast in the town of Larena which was very close by. The owner helped me get a rental scooter for a very fair price - 300 PHP for a low mileage very clean bike.

The shower area in the bathroom did not have a curtain and there was a leak which caused the floor in front of the toilet to always be wet. Due to a tropical disturbance which was anticipated to affect most of southeastern Philippines, the port of Siquijor was closed the day I planned to leave. The port was closed for 2 days and because the island relies on fuel delivered by ferry to provide power to the generators located around the island, the island had no power most of the time over the 2 day period. The rain was intermittently heavy, but not at the level of the forecasted typhoon level. The hotel did not have A generator to provide power to the guest rooms, so I spent close to 2 days in the dark. Some restaurants and gas stations had generators so there were places to eat during the general power outage. Leaving the island was made more difficult due to 3 days of tourists having to take a ferry on the first day that the ports reopened.

- Very small room with small bathroom - Strong mildew smell - Large cracks around air conditioner and door frame that allow insects and smoke from cigarettes or nearby burn piles into the room - Shower water pressure nearly nonexistent - Strong urine smell in bathroom - Bedsheet not big enough to cover entire body (and I'm pretty short)
