Coastal Apartment 2

The location of the property by the sea was ideal. The garden and sun beds were great and the ground floor terrace was large and there was always a part that was shaded. The rooms were comfortable and well-equipped. The shower was very effective.

Very minor: We had to remember to turn on the water heater , and turn it off again.

The direct access to the beach was essential for us. The apartment itself is basic, its great strength is the outside: the veranda, the yard, the small table on the beach. It was great to have the possibility to eat on the veranda, looking at the sea. The yard is for both apartments: the sea-front (where we were staying) and the street-facing one - but in practice we used the yard alone. There is a small grill in the yard: perfect for a dinner at home. The beach has sufficient length for a stroll (even for a run, if you are prepared to run back and forth several times) and is not so busy as the main beach of Stavros. When it gets too wavy, you can head to the main beach, 10 minutes on foot, where the water is very shallow and quiet - perfect for small kids. Communication with Emmanouela was smooth, both well before and during the stay, and she was kind to answer all our questions and help us with the local information. The family was very quick to help us, if we had some problems. And it was very nice to get the presents (fruit, wine, cookies, etc) from the family. The village is a short drive from Chania airport, but you hardly ever notice the airplanes (you will mostly hear the waves and the cicadas during your stay in Stavros). A taxi drive will be ca 15 minutes, 23-24 euros.

This is not about the property, but about the village: there are not so many places to eat and only two shops where the stock of products is quite limited. If you have a car (we didn't), this is not a problem - a short drive to the nearby Chorafakia will give you access to a good supermarket. One can also take a bus that runs several times a day.

We appreciated the sound of the waves crashing on the nearby beach.

The apartment is quite dark with musty smell (tried to be covered by an air freshener with perfume). The bathroom is very small with a tiny shower cubicle (less than 50x50) without curtain so every time we showered, the bathroom was a pool. The picture with the 2 sunbeds under the umbrella in the garden can be misleading since they are shared between the apartments so if you expect to have your private garden, that's not the case. Way to expensive for its value
