This new luxury ski apartment is situated by the ski slopes in the traditional Savoyarde Village of Les Houches, entrance to the Chamonix Valley at the foot of Mont Blanc. It’s virtually ski in ski out with the ski lifts Bellevue Cable Car and Chair Lift Coupe de Monde 150 metres away plus the Ski Bus stop giving access to the ESF ski school and the vast number of other ski areas in the Chamonix Valley. Fully equipped and furnished to a high standard with HD TV. Free WiFi access in the apartment. Within 150 metres there are three excellent restaurants, three bars and a good selection of shops. If you are part of a larger group we have links with other apartment owners in Chalet Whymper. We can put you in touch with them and so cater for large parties all in the same building. We had a fabulous trip to Janet's apartment. The location was perfect - it was so wonderful to have two balconies to enjoy the stunning views as they change from breakfast to dinner! We travelled by train from the UK, which was straightforward and Janet provided us with lots of useful travel information and tips which made our trip super smooth and stress free. The apartment itself is in excellent condition and has everything you could need. It has been one of the best rentals we've ever had - we hope to be back one day!

The property is absolutely brilliant, walking distance to anything that is important: ski lift, bars, supermarket etc. The property had everything you could need and was super clean. Janet was super helpful as a host, providing all information before arrival, but then left us to it during out stay. She was always there when we needed her. Lovely well equipped apartment with underground garage space , ski locker and bbc tv via Freesat. Close to base of Bellevue gondola, bars, restaurant, shops and ski hire rentals. The main living/kitchen/dining room glass doors overlooking the slopes is sited directly opposite an adjacent chalet so privacy is somewhat compromised. The local supermarket is excellent but a little too far to walk if doing a big shop and having a rental car really helped us.

A very nice apartment that was an ideal home-base away from home and that was perfect for exploring the Chamonix Mt. Blanc area. We would definitely like to stay there again when revisiting the area (which we most certainly will). Janet was super helpful, extremely quick in her responses and a very reliable host. One of the best properties we've stayed in

The whole experience of this property was exceptional. We've stayed in a number of properties over the last decade and we rarely bother to review because, while generally the standard is high, they're all very similar. From the beginning Janet's communication was superb, before booking our questions were answered quickly and clearly, after booking Janet was very proactive at providing all the information we needed and our arrival went very smoothly precisely because of the clear instructions and information. Upon arrival the apartment was in excellent condition, it was clean and well equipped and we were particularly impressed by the homely feel. There are a number of folders in the apartment with local information, very thoughtfully separated into English and French language, and similarly the TV was equipped with both English and French speaking channels, an unusually nice thought. All facilities were superb, the shower was exceptional, the washing machine was huge, the basic consumables were well provided and the WiFi even worked (unusual in our experience!) There is covered parking with the apartment which we found extremely useful and both the external and internal garage door were tall enough for a normal estate car with a roof box. I do not think a large vehicle (e.g. large 4x4) would fit with a roof box fitted but should be fine without a roof box. The walk to the Bellevue lift is short (maybe 300m easy walk?) and around the same area are the usual French village shops (boulangerie, pattiserie, etc). There are a fair choice of ski shops around the Bellevue lift but our recommendation would be to walk up the hill a little (away from the lift) to Skimium, which is cheaper, better equipped and covers more sports (e.g. snowboard and snowscoot) than the mainstream hire shops. Thank you Janet for the excellent accommodation, we hope to be back in the coming years.

We loved this apartment. It was immaculate and beautifully furnished with state of the art appliances and everything one could possibly need. The bed was very comfortable and our teenage son was quite happy with the sofa bed. The location was also perfect for us, since we chose not to rent a car, as it was just a short walk to the Bellevue cable car lift and Chamonix stop and a somewhat longer walk to the grocery store. Janet left very helpful, detailed and illustrated step by step instructions for all appliances and electronics. We also enjoyed the convenience of the ski locker.

Nice apartment in good central location. We spent some great days. Unfortunately snow conditions didn't allow to do much skiing, but the kids had much fun on the ice rink and climbing hall close by. And happy to come back anytime ... when we are blessed with more snow.

We stayed one week (3 - 10 Jan 15) in this fantastic apartment with our two grown up children. An ideal location for skiing in Les Houches and a short 10 minute drive up the valley to Chamonix. A two minute walk to the nearest lifts. Great selection of ski rental shops - we used Intersport at the lift station and got great service and rates. If you are in to cooking then Chalet Whimper has everything you will need to make anything from a boiled egg to a soufflé an oven ready meal to a full roast dinner. A nice and welcome touch is that the owners don't clean the cupboards out of the essentials after each visit so getting started was easy without spending a fortune on day one on groceries and cleaning products. Just top up as you go along and leave something for the next guests. Janet's travel instructions made finding it easy even in the dark and the secure garage was a welcome feature for the car and ski gear although there is also a good sized locker room. Great views by day, ample entertainment options for the evenings in. Endless hot water in the good sized shower room. Clean and well maintained building and apartment. Would definitely return.

Fantastic location (not in busy Chamonix if you are looking for a little quiet in between hiking and going out), great apartment. Clean and modern. Close to Chamonix. Walking distance to bakery and shops and central Les Houches with all the amenities. Very comfortable. Stayed for one week. Managed to visit Italy, Switzerland and the surrounding region with no difficulty. Janet was great to deal with and made the arrival and entry super easy. Would definitely return!!!!

We loved our stay in this beautiful apt! The views from all of the windows were spectacular. The apt was immaculate and perfectly situated on the mountain. The skiing was amazing in Les Houches and In Chamonix. We preferred the town of Les Houches over Chamonix. Les Houches is like a town out of a fairytale.There are great restaurants within walking distance of the apt. Our favorite restaurants were Le Basilic and les Enversins. The pastas, and duck were some of the best we have had anywhere in the world. We decided to go for a really expensive lunch in Chamonix one day. We dined at Le Bistrot. The food was nowhere near as good as the restaurants in les Houches. The apt has a small garage which was great for keeping the car free from snow. It took a little while to master backing in to the garage, but was a really nice feature. The shower in the apt had plenty of hot water and great water pressure. We loved the heated towel rack. The bed was also very comfortable with high quality linens.If you are used to using washcloths to shower, you may want to bring some with you, as none are provided. There were wooden shutters outside on the balcony that you could close to provide privacy to the bedroom, I opened them every day to take in the beautiful views. There is a red binder in the apt that explains how to operate all of the appliances. The apt was very warm, and we hardly used the heaters in the apt. The garbage needs to be taken out and down the street to a container near the ski rental shop. If you plan on eating in a lot, you may want to pack a few extra garbage bags. Only one garbage bag was provided during our week long stay. There are 2 grocery stores on the same road as the apt. Make a right out of the apt, the first one you come to is called Carrefour and it's above the new tourist info building. This is the building where our favorite restaurant was: Les Enversins was also located. The other grocery store was further down the road on the right and is called Super U. Even if you don't plan on skiing the Vallee Blanche, you should go to the top of Auguille du midi. The views are out of this world. Thank you Janet for providing us with such great accommodations and suggestions for our visit! You provided us with more personalized info than any other previous landlord.

We have just returned from our best family holiday ever. We drove from the UK, via the tunnel, to Les Houches. The journey was excellent and very easy. Les Houches is just minutes from a main motorway, so access is not a worry anytime of year. We went prepared with shovel and snow socks, but didnt need them. The apartment is lovely. It has everything you could ever need, plus lots of homely extras like DVDs and board games. The SKY TV with english channels were great too. We are a family of 5, and found the apartment spacious enough and perfect for our needs. Janet the owner is very friendly, and happy to answer any questions, and provides you with lots of information. This was our first ski holiday, and found Les Houches perfect and beautiful. The apartments are so well designed for skiers, with ski lockers etc. The apartment is central in Les Houches, just minutes from ski lifts, shops, ski hire shops and restaurants. We used the ESF Ski School for ski lessons in the mornings. Again we would recommend. We all went from complete novices to competent skiers in a week. We ate at the pizzeria near Bellevue, which do very tasty pizzas. They also do takeaway. I would recommend this apartment very highly. It is amazing, and we will certainly be returning!

We stayed for one week at Chalet Whymper (Sept. 2012) and it turned out to be the perfect location for us to explore the Mont Blanc area. It was our first trip to the French Alps and this chalet was everything we had hoped for. Janet was (is) an excellent host, kindly answering emails before as well as during our stay. The apartment is roomy, with lots and lots of storage space. The bedroom was plenty big and the bed super-comfortable. The kitchen rivaled my own at home, with every implement you could want, and more! We enjoyed being able to eat in after a long day out and just relax while looking at the mountain views. Comfortable couches in the sitting area plus the two balconies helped make this apartment welcoming and homey. The area is quiet, but there are plenty of amenities nearby -- tourist office, specialty markets, a small supermarket, ATM -- all within easy walking distance. We were fortunate to have only one day of rain, so we did lots of hiking. Chamonix was an easy 10-minute drive, making it convenient to get to the major lifts. All in all, I would recommend Chalet Whymper without hesitation, and will definitely stay here again should we decide to return to this beautiful part of the world.

We had the most amazing holiday in Les Houches. The apartment is located in both a convenient and idyllic setting, with views (and balconies) to enjoy the mountains from both the main living room area and the bedroom, which both help to create the feeling that you really are ‘staying in the mountains’. You have the choice of ascending the mountain via Belle Vue (cable car) lift which is literally a stones throw from the apartment. The chair lifts are also just as close (of which you need to take 3 consecutive lifts to the top) or alternatively you can climb the mountain via Le Prarion (Gondola) if you are driving or don’t mind taking the bus less than a mile, parking is free so there is no need to worry about that. Again Ski-hire is situated very close to the lifts (a stones throw from the chalet) and skis were kept there overnight for convenience on the days we didn’t take the car to Le Prarion. The resort is challenging enough, although also provides learning areas to attempt skiing for the beginners. As this was our second ski-ing trip to Les Houches we decided to hire a car, we found the scenery so wonderful the first time around, we wanted to explore nearby towns which were accessible via a short car journey. However, the region also has free buses and trains which are excellent links to Chamonix and the nearby towns. On snowing days there is plenty to do from bowling to climbing, spas, wandering around the shops in nearby Chamonix. The supermarkets are also reasonable and not far from the apartment. I have no doubt we will holiday here again in this apartment, it had everything you could wish for from a skiing holiday. Close to the airport, slopes, lifts, ski-hire, towns to peruse the shops and more importantly boulangeries, patisseries and restaurants to try out! It really was the perfect place to stay for us. My husband is keen to try it in the summer and trialling the mountain bike trails. If you book this chalet you will not be disappointed. Janet the owner can not do enough to ensure that you have a lovely holiday and you have all the information you need. My experience was excellent from the moment I booked the aparment. The owner was helpful with all the practical information and the customer service was nothing short of excellent. The apartment is excactly as advertised if not better. Everything one could possibly need to be comfortable is provided. The internet connection was invaluble to me and it worked flawlessly. All the hiking maps provided were excellent, and I carried one around with me the whole week for reference. The litlle blue book on Mont Blanc walks is the best one, I used it all week and never went wrong. The location of the apartment is close to all the recreational facilities, shopping and transportation. I used the gondola right next door and the hiking trails on the top of the mountain were numerous, and very scenic. One can stroll on level ground, or hike into the mountains. I bought some goat cheese directly from the shepard on the mountain, and it was delicious. I would recommend this apartment without any reservations and I would definetly stay here again.

The apartment is a rare find in the mountain area, as almost all the others are...well, in my opinion, ugly. This one has a very nice style, good quality furniture and appliances. Everything you could need is at hand. Even it is not so big you have plenty of space and all is very functional. Very central and comfortable also because of the garage in the basement. The owner is extremely helpful and a very very nice person. I never rented such a well organised apartment, everything is very well explained and all rental logistics are so precise and simple! In short, I very much recommend this home away from home, it's really a rare opportunity to have a holiday in all comfort and style for a very correct rental rate! Having stayed at this apartment for the second time we can only say that for a skiing trip this apartment is wonderful. From initial contact with Janet to the end of your holiday the whole experience is simply fabulous. The apartment has everything you could wish for. It is beautifully furnished, with wonderful views and is excellently kept. I cannot recommend staying here more highly. You have only to read the visitors book to know you are staying somewhere special.

We have just had the most amazing week staying at this apartment. Every day we would get up and have breakfast over looking the slopes of Les Houches, we woudl see the cable car and the chair lift start up out of the window and then we knew it was time to put our ski gear on. The location was second to none! Les Houches itself is calm, well serviced and has excellent shops and restaurants all just a stroll away, again the apartment is ideally located for this. Chamonix is a short drive or a bus away and as always was great fun. The owners have clearly spent alot of money furnishing this apartment and therefore the guest have respected it and it remains in pristine condition. There are files containing very useful local information and even a bottle of wine on arrival.....we felt entirely spoit!! The first e-mail I sent on my return home was to arrange a booking for summer!! If that isn't an endorsement I don't know what is. Thanks for an amazing week away in a fabulous location.

Just got back from Les Houches, what a fantastic apartment, so well located (walking distance from Belleview lift, easy to get to Prarion.) Spotless apartment and such lovely decor. Was really nice to come back from a great days skiing to just sit and look at the view and have a nice meal and some nice wine. The supermarket is within walking distance and there are lots of nice little shops across the street. Janet made the booking and organisation of the trip run so smoothly, lots of info before we set off and she really does care that you have a nice time. Nothing is too much trouble - so thanks again so much :) Book to stay here, Les Houches is a lovely quiet resort that is close enough to Chamonix for a livelier day out. You really will not be disappointed with the apartment.....one of the best we have ever stayed in...

Just came back from Les Houches and we had a woudreful trip... There were 5 of us ( 2 adults and 3 kids) in the apartement and everybody were very comfortable in there bed/sleep sofas. This place is very upscale from the furnitures to the decor....and the location is perfect to go to all ski resorts... The kitchen was better equipped then my own...The shower room is separetated from the WC, easier in the morning for all of us...You can walk to the cable car Bellevue and to the little downtown of Les Houches where you can find nice bakery, cheese and wine store and a few restaurants. My kids are already requesting to go back...And on top of all that, it was really easy to deal with Janet... PS...We enjoyed all of the ski resorts ...the 4 in Chamonix Valley, Courmoyeur in Italy....but our favorite by very very far was Verbier. So if you are skiers and you buy the Chamonix unlimited ski pass...you have to go to Verbier...70 km from Les Houches but a tricky drive throw a Col...so 1 hour and a half drive...but worth it +++++++++++ Thanks again Janet and YES we will be back!!!!!!!!!!

Located about 7 km from Chamonix in the lovely village of Les Houches, the apartment is a comfortable retreat away from the bustle of town. Outfitted with every modern convenience in tasteful style, it more than meets expectations. The owners provide a wealth of helpful information both ahead of time and at the apartment. Although the apartment sleeps four with the pull-out sofa in the small living area, it is really more suited for a couple. There are a few shops and restaurants nearby (many closed during mid-September), but Chamonix is only a short drive. Although it is ideally located at the base of a lift and just a few steps from the local bus stop, it is better to have a car to access the entire valley. We would recommend the apartment to interested friends without any reservation.

Having been in this area before, we decided not to hire a car - bus and train are free anywhere in the valley. Ski lifts short distance away. Bike hire available at sports shop 2 mins from the chalet and there is a well-stocked supermarket 5 mins walk. The owners have put a lot of thought and care into this apartment - excellent customer service! Would be hard to find a better place to stay

A well appointed, very clean apartment with wonderful views from the two balconies. Lots of information given by Janet the owner prior to arrival regarding walking in the area, we visited in August, and plenty of information available in the apartment. Your car can be safely left in the lock-up garage for the duration of the holiday as free rail and bus service is available through the Chamonix valley with the 'Guest Card' Good choice of restaurants and shops within walking distance. Trip by cable cars from Chamonix to the summit of le Aiguille du Midi (12,000 feet plus) a must - an awesome experience! But it's very popular arrrive early!!!!

We stayed here for a week but could quite easily have remained the whole month! Chalet Whymper is a well equipped well thought out accomodation with a lovely homely feel. With plenty of information about the apartment and local area we were never stuck wondering how to work this or where to go for that! I'd love to keep this place a secret but I have a feeling that word has already got out;-)

We had a really amazing week, fantastic walks and excursions, really appreciated the excellent accommodation, and the weather was really hot and sunny. Magnificent views. What more could we ask for! We really enjoyed the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Montnevers train trips, and walked Grand Balcon Sud, Lac Blanc, Prarion (the latter with start/finish from C. Whymper with no cable cars) and Vallorcine valley. We enjoyed some really good restaurants - our favourite was Le Basilic.
