I stayed in a shepherd's hut for the experience. I would stay in the Inn again, but next time in an upstairs room , as they are ensuite. The shepherd's hut was very basic, but very clean. Minimalist is probably the word. if you want the shepherd's hut experience, then this is for you. The bar is very lively and it is quite a walk into Whitby, but there is a footpath.
Walking across the garden for the toilet and shower. Not really me. Just one of each for 4 huts. Having said that I never waited for either. Both were clean.

Food was nice, breakfast 3 times and evening meal twice
No shower, only a bath and couldn’t get the shower head to work, room was above the bar and could hear the music until the bar shut, although this wasn’t too late, 10:00pm, 10:20pm and 9:15, more annoying was the regular door slamming

Location for my hiking , situated adjacent to the old cinder path from Whitby to Robin Hoods bay
Room dated but clean, bathroom sink was a closet sink and very small but the bath was large

Breakfast was great. Warm shower and comfy bed.
Could badly do with a lick of paint and upkeep needed more maintenance. Steps leading up to the hut felt rotten and wouldn’t take much to eventually break. Cobwebs in shower room and flakey paint didn’t look great.
