Tivauche is a beautifully restored farmhouse which sits on the edge of a sleepy hamlet with fine views over the Auxois countryside. Vast open-plan living area with comfortable armchairs around old stone fireplace, dining area, well equipped kitchen & french doors leading onto the patio & garden. Spacious bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms. All linen and towels provided with beds made up. Nearby towns of Epoisses & Semur-en-Auxois provide plenty of choice for bars, restaurants & shops. The Farm house was comfortable and well appointed and decorated. It was16 degrees when we arrived and the Owner suggested we use the open fire which was very nice. Eventually we asked them to turn on the heating as the cold persisted. We had a very comfortable stay in an interesting and beautiful part of France. The peace and quiet, apart from the occasional happy dogs, was lovely. Fully recommend the House and the area.

The house is situated in an agricultural area. The photograph gives the impression that it is a stand alone location, but the house makes part of a series of 3 clustered houses. It is a beautiful, silent area and the only thong you hear are cows or sheep. The house was clean and well equipped and it was a perfect place to stay with two couples ( early seventies ). Unfortunately the weather extremely bad and very wet !! One of the mornings my wife went done to empty the dishwasher, but on the floor was 1 cm. water. The heavy rain found its way into the house through the from door. The carper was soaked and we had job to make it dry. The open fire was lovely, but two days later just before dinner we received a second "gift " from heaven and the fight with water started again. We had help from Jenny ( Bill was om a trip ) and we survived. We think that a drainage pipe before the door is essential. Despite the weather, we had a good time there. Jenny and Bill really know what they are doing! They have thought of everything to make visitors' stays pleasant and welcome. The place is beautifully set up, with the best equiped kitchen! I mean really! They even have petanque boules to play out front. They provide a comprehensive set of house instructions, and there are lots of brochures and information about the Burgundy region in the house. The back garden is lovely, with a nice covered patio and table for dining al fresco. High recommended!

We will fondly cherish the time we spent at Bill and Jenny’s in Tivauche. Our goal was to relax and bond as a family, and our time at Chez Higgs helped us do just that. The farmhouse is rustic, homely yet modern and well-appointed for a family. It offers access to incredible natural beauty. We loved the beautiful vistas, sunrises and sunsets that could be enjoyed from the backyard or any of the multiple local trails. It’s conveniently located 15-20 mins from notable towns and landmarks in Burgundy like Semur-en-Auxois, Epoisses, Avallon, Flavigny and many others. Bill and Jenny’s thoughtful hospitality was the icing on the cake. So in a nutshell - we highly recommend a visit to Chez Higgs!

Bill and Jenny’s place was a perfect setting to unwind and enjoy the beautiful countryside. The charming house had everything we could have asked for: comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms, plenty of storage space and the kitchen was very well outfitted. The little hamlet was always quiet and the surrounding fields were perfect for after dinner walks. A couple of nearby towns had all the supplies anyone would need. Bill is a lovely host and shared great information for day trips around the area. This was one of our favorite vacation rentals ever!

This is a beautiful property, especially if you enjoy being away from the bustle of the city. Bill and Jenny provide a well equipped and super comfortable gite and couldn't be more accommodating. The weather turned cold for us, and the fireplace was cozy and charming. We hope to return again for a longer stay. There are many attractions close by that we didn't have time to visit.

The property is beautifully decorated, with all the flair of Burgundy, and very warm and cosy for a November stay. It’s rural but still situated within easy reach of lots of Burgundy highlights, as well as being just 20 minutes drive from a TGV station. Very convenient all round and you won’t go home hungry, with all the delicious food and wine available in the area.

Thank you Bill and Jenny for another wonderful stay at Tivauche. We had 19 restful days of sleeping late, eating great food and just chilling out in general, which is what we both needed. Had a delicious lunch at le Medieval in Mont St Jean, and stumbled into l'Auberge du Chateau in Epoisses, what a great place! Visited our usual haunts like le Marrioner, la Mirabelle, and Restaurant les Millesimes in Noyer-sur-Serin, and were please to see les Minimes in Semur has been reopened with gargantuan portions. We highly recommend a stay at Tivauche for anyone traveling to Burgundy!

There is no holiday rental or cottage furnishing feel here. Anyone planning on staying in this part of Burgundy should very seriously consider this.The owners are friendly, helpful and accommodating. In my book, any owners who provide not only a CD selection but one that includes good opera and jazz are a cut above. There is something truly special about being able to sit outside in early evening with a glass of good wine, looking out on to a painter’s landscape with La Traviata playing in the background.We stayed only for a week, but this is a place that one could live in for much, much longer very comfortably and happily. There is not a lot that we might have done differently, or could have done better, were this property our own.The location is quiet, relaxing and good for exploring the less foreign-tourist-frequented parts of Burgundy. (The Cöte d’Or, Dijon and Macon, however, are at least an hour away by autoroute.)

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks in Tivauche. This was our second visit. The cottage is beautiful, and has absolutely everything you could need . It is like someone’s home, not a gite. The new open fire is wonderful and we enjoyed sitting by it everyday. Jenny and Bill are wonderful hosts and go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

This is easily the 6th or 7th time we have stayed at Bill and Jenny’s gite in Tivauche. My husband and I both love it and always feel as if we are coming to our “home away from home”. The farm house is so warm and inviting with spacious, well furnished rooms and beautiful views of the Auxois countryside. The terrace is a great place to relax in the spring and fall overlooking the lush green hills . The house is very clean and immaculately maintained and the surrounding countryside is so picturesque. One of our favorite things to do is to search out yet another charming village where I can dream of owning a wonderful stone house -there are many charming villages so it’s hard to choose a favorite . Semur en Auxois, the medieval walled city 12 km away has about everything one could need and an excellent artisan boulangerie with the most delicious almond croissants ever! Hint: order your almond croissants for pick-up the next morning and they will be freshly baked and still warm when you arrive. Le Marrioner in Buffon overlooking the Burgundy canal and La Mirabelle at the roundabout at St Remy are not to be missed. There are endless sites to see, from Vezelay (Mont St Michelle without water) to Chateauneuf looming ominously on its promontory, the Forge du Buffon to the medieval wine town of Beaune to endless chateaux such as Tanlay or Ancy le Franc, Burgundy has it all! Everyone that we have met and come to know from visiting here for years is friendly and helpful, from the pharmacist in Semur to the florist and especially the boulangerie. We will keep returning to Tivauche to relax, refuel and refresh and hope to stay two weeks in the Spring of 2020. Bill and Jenny and their two lovely daughters whom we have watched grow up are a delightful family, always ready to help with anything but not intrusive. Anyone thinking about a trip to Burgundy would love this gite and the Higgs family. We can’t wait to go back to Tivauche.

The surrounding countryside was very peaceful and it was a great location for exploring some of the wonderful wine regions of Beaune, Chablis and Nuit St George. The landscape of the Cote d’Or is breathtaking in its beauty. We had a wonderfull trip to Tivauche . Endless fields of rapeseed , countless lilacs , wherever we went, we were welcombed by Spring. The hause surpassed all our expectations. Spacious for the four of us, cosy, very clean and well equipped. Jenny and Bill were very helpfull and hospitable. Jenny surprised us nearly every day with freshly laid eggs. Please note for free. We will recommand the cottage to all our friends and we will certainly visite this hidden pearl in the future again.

We visited in early October as a party of 4 with our 4 dogs which were very kindly accommodated! The weather was perfect, the food was fantastic and the wine was even better. The house is absolutely lovely! As a family we have rented a number of properties across France over the years and we were all in agreement that Tivauche is one of our favourites. The property is spacious yet cosy, equipped with everything you could possibly need, and is incredibly peaceful. The location is brilliant for visiting vineyards, markets, beautiful little villages and going walking in the Morvan. We simply cannot fault this place, we loved it! Bill and Jenny are also fantastic at what they do. Despite being just next door they are so incredibly discreet, we barely knew they were there yet when we had a problem with the washing machine Bill was through straight away to fix it. Thank you so much for a brilliant holiday, we all had a lovely time staying in Tivauche!

This is a superb property; it retains a truly French feel with the highest standard of cleanliness and equipment. Everything we needed was there, it all worked perfectly and there was comfortable seating in abundance. Having French and UK channels on the TV is handy as is the ample parking. Access to our various destinations was easy and almost all by beautiful and relatively quiet roads. Finding the property was very easy and the greeting we received was excellent. Bill and Jenny were most helpful with pre-trip communication, directions, introduction to the property and gentle advice and information regarding the area. Walks along the lane which leads out of the village provided magnificent views and a gentle and relaxing start and end to each day. Good shopping and major supermarkets are all available within 10 miles and a small supermarket (now an offshoot of Auchan) is a few miles away. Semur, Flavigny, Alesia, Ancy-Le-Franc, Noyers, Montréal, Chateauneuf-en-Auxios, Bussy-Rabutin and Avallon were favourite visits (there were other villages, towns and chateaux); but the countryside is perhaps the greatest star. A trip to the Morvan is always worth it as is a gentle drive with wanders through the local villages such as Genay, Époisses and Moutiers-St Jean. A fascinating trip is to the Vix Museum in Châtallon-sur-Seine and audio-guide a must. Above them all are Fontenay and Vézelay. We had good weather overall and while this helps any trip, having visited many of the above places before in dull and wet conditions, we can say that they look good then as well! This holiday was as good as it gets and with over 40 such stays in France we are happy to declare the gîte of the very best we have stayed in. Thanks again to Bill, Jenny and the girls for such a lovely place in which to stay.

Modern and well maintained the property still has the charm one envisions of rural France. Traveling with another couple the accommodations were perfect. We enjoyed the area visiting the the small towns, abbeys, and of the course the wonderful Burgundy wines and vine yards. Our day trips to Beaune and Vezelay were especially rewarding with all the history and the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Even with all the areas we wanted to explore, we always made time each day to come back to your farmhouse and enjoy the garden patio with a glass of wine. We highly recommend this property to anyone. Great gite, in a lovely area. It’s always a good sign when you get a wow when you enter a place to stay and this place got 3 wow’s, living room and the two bedrooms. Shower in the upstairs bedroom was luxurious, it was like having a hot waterfall flowing over you, the shower head was so big. We stayed in early April and although a bit chilly in the morning the weather was good enough to eat out in the garden, lovely to see the morning mist rolling down the valley. Nice walks with the dog from the gite but you do need a car as no shop, facilities within walking distance. Epoisses had a boulangerie and a small supermarket and of course the cheese shop, it was only 10 minutes away in the car which was quite handy. Garden is secure for dogs so no chance of escape and it was nice to watch the sheep wander in the adjacent field. We visited Dijon, Autun and Semur and had really good lunches out, Plat du jour, of course. Bill was really helpful when we couldn’t light the log fire, even though he was on holiday he phoned us back and explained where we were going wrong. We also left our camcorder which Bill and Jenny very kindly parcelled up and sent back to us. We would love to have met Bill and Jenny, maybe on our next stay.

We had great holidays in this spacious, cosy and perfectly equipped house in rural Burgundy. We enjoyed sunny and silent afternoons in the garden, visited sheep with our two years old daughter, fed horses and donkeys. Bill and Jenny are very kind and courteous, even sent forgotten souvenirs to our next holiday adress in France. Day trips to Dijon, Auxerre, Vezélay and Abbaye de Fontenay were a perfect supplementing program which made our vacation marvelous.

Tivauche is the perfect place to explore this beautiful area of France. Bill and Jenny were amazingly helpful with near encyclopaedic knowledge of the area! Nothing was too much trouble and they were the perfect hosts. The house is warm, welcoming, beautifully decorated and well equipped with great space inside and a calm peaceful outlook from the garden. The local cheese shop in Epoisse is gorgeous with lots of tempting treats and it is a superb base to explore the local vineyards. The quiet roads and the canal path for cycling and walking make this a superb holiday bet.

What a lovely property. The Farmhouse in Tivauche is well-maintained, clean and well equipped. Bill and Jenny were helpful, friendly and very attentive hosts. This house is a delightful old farmhouse with all the modern conveniences including Wi-Fi. There is a lovely private patio overlooking the beautiful golden wheat fields that stretch out as far as the eye can see. We had a wonderful relaxed vacation for four weeks and have made plans to return next year. The local cheese factory and bakery were a hit with us. There is also easy access to many chateaus and vineyards in the surrounding area.

We stayed at the property for two wonderful weeks in the Summer, and this was the third time we have stayed there. We went back because it is just such a lovely place to stay. The house has been renovated to a high standard, whilst retaining its character, and is very well equipped, especially the kitchen. The property was very clean, and everything seemed well-maintained. There is Wi-Fi access, which is very handy for checking-out all the local attractions and weather. The two main bedrooms are spacious, light and very comfortable, and as there are just the two of us, we had a hard task in deciding which one to use! The big garden at the rear of the house has a great view of the local countryside, and is so quiet. It's a great place to lie-out and relax. The night skies are amazing, being so dark, and we spent hours stargazing most evenings. The owners, Bill and Jenny, were, as always, welcoming and very helpful, and they know all the best places to dine, visit and enjoy. There are some lovely small towns just a short drive away, including Semur en Auxois, Avallon, Noyers and Vezelay, and each one is well worth a visit. Semur is closest, about 15 minutes away, and there are several great places there to have a meal, a drink or a pleasant walk. We go to Burgundy mainly for the cycling, and it really is a terrific area; gently rolling countryside, hills if you want them, and almost traffic-free roads in good condition. We covered a few hundred miles, and each one was a pleasure! I have no doubt we will go back again, and indeed are already planning another stay.

We loved this farmhouse. It looked exactly as we would have expected a French country farmhouse to look – the old world charm of beamed ceilings, stone fireplace, shuttered windows – with tastefully added modern conveniences. The views of the countryside from the garden and the upstairs, vaulted ceiling bedroom were gorgeous. Tivauche is a hamlet of about a dozen homes without any shops so it is very tranquil. It’s an easy 5 minute drive to Epoisses which has all of the typical village shops and a charming chateau. Although it seems remote we were less than an hour away from any our planned excursions. Bill and Jenny, the owners, live right next door. They were available if we needed them (which we didn’t) but otherwise we only knew if they were home if we could see their car in the courtyard.

This former spacious farmhouse has all the modern facilities that one can expect: a modern , fully-equipped kitchen, a cosy living room, an excellent shower, comfortable beds and plenty of storeroom for bicycles, golf gear and provisions (two fridges!) It has been renovated in style and has a very efficient heating system. (huge radiators in the living room) It is an ideal location for cycling along the Canal de Bourgogne (20 km away), for playing golf ( two 9 hole courses and one 18 hole course within an hour's drive) and for hillwalking. On rainy days the museums of Baune and Dijon are within easy reach ( approximately 75 minutes on the motorway). I can strongly recommend the house with its beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and its helpful landlords who live next door. Karl Wilms Germany

Our stay was simply lovely. My husband and I decided at the last minute to escape to Burgundy in mid-winter and arrived to find a charming, cosy, beautifully furnished, spacious and immaculate home. Bill was terrific as our host from his quick response to our booking through to helpful tips on the region. We chose the very large upstairs bedroom with its cathedral ceiling, comfy bed, views over the countryside and large adjacent shower room (with very good water pressure). The main living space benefited from both radiator heating and the huge atmospheric fireplace - plus Bill had plenty of firewood on hand - easy! It also has multiple windows on two sides allowing plenty of light to enjoy the beamed ceilings and antique furniture. February turned out to be a perfect month to tour as we often wandered through towns, churches and along the small scenic roads without encountering any crowds but still enjoyed the lively local markets and cafes. Would recommend staying here in any season.

We have stayed in Bugundy many times before but this is without doubt one of the best places. The location and accommodation are superb and Bill & Jen wonderful hosts, helpful but not intrusive. Definitely worth a return visit as there is too much to see and do for just one week.

We came to La Tivauche with expectations of a quiet and welcoming house in the heart of the famous Burgundy region of France. Our expectations have been greatly exceeded I must say after having spent a wonderfully relaxing two weeks in this small hamlet in February this year(2010). The house itself was delightfully spacious and cosy, being in the middle of winter we were happy to spend time sitting by the fire and reading, a rare luxury for us. There was a generous selection of books, and videos to amuse us once our own supply was exhausted. The living area was just lovely and had lovely views of the countryside from an elevated position on the hill. Cooking was a breeze using the well equipped and appointed kitchen adjacent to the lounge area. Our sleeping quarters upstairs were large and comfortable, taking up most of the upstairs area. Though we were just the two of us, we had planned to join another family member who would have been just as comfortable downstairs but sadly couldn't make it. Our hosts Bill and Jenny were away for much of our stay (in warmer climbs) but had made sure the house was open, warm, clean and welcoming for us when we arrived. All aspects of our stay were well beyond what we had expected. We would have no hesitation in recommending the property to friends or family, and would certainly look forward to being able to use it again in the future. As for the area, this part of Burgundy is very well positioned and within easy reach of many wonderful places including the Morvan National Park which is delightful at any time of the year. Local shopping was good considering the time of year. Our closest shops for most small needs was Epoisses and for anything else Samur en Auxois. A car is pretty much a must for this place, even though there are many lovely walks to be had close by to the house. Although we stayed in for most of our evening meals, we had many nice lunches close by and there were many good suggestions available in Bill & Jenny's guides to the area. We enjoyed our stay in the house very much.
