If I have to criticise anything it would be the uneven path to the room. It was difficult trundling wheeled suitcase to the room. However, a smooth concrete path would not be in keeping!

The property is well situated for Natures Valley where we enjoyed a couple of day hikes and the Beach restaurant there is very good and only a 10 min drive away. Breakfast was very nicely cooked with buffet options too and in the outdoors although with no real outlook as its facing the front of the property. The dining room used to serve dinner overlooks the lily pond and the outlook and terrace we think would make a nicer place to offer breakfast from. Dinner is a fixed formal affair of 4 courses serves from 7.00pm and everyone is served together for each course which can make for a long sitting. The chef is very good and the food nicely presented even if the service isn't the same for all guests. Our room was nicely presented and serviced and Margaret was very helpful in providing a map for the hikes on our first morning.
The outlook on the lily pond at the property is really lovely but sadly our stay was spoilt by noisy neighbours for 2 of our 3 nights! The garden rooms are small and very close together and there is limited chance to escape the noise ad cigarette smoke in the late evening if guests sit outside their room rather than in the social spaces available. Our neighbours did this even though we asked them politely to lower their voices! One of the waitresses at dinner also spoilt our dining experience on both evenings we dined there. She told us on the first evening, that their priority is to look after repeat visitors and its these visitors that are offered the dining table in the windows when we asked to be seated at one. This was a disappointing response and unexpected as we've never come across this behaviour before. It's a shame how easily a stay can be spoilt. Shame as our stay should have been excellent as its a more expensive option, but sadly it missed the mark for us. We wished we'd stayed for 2 nights only, as it didn't meet our expectations on this occasion.

The location is beautiful. It’s on a country road that leads down to Natures valley. The rooms are set looking at the lily ponds which are beautiful but be prepared as it is a little remote and if you want to go out for dinner in the evening it’s quiet a drive back in the dark.
The breakfast was very good, just would have liked it not to have been so rushed, the breakfast staff were lovely but they were bringing the cooked food before you finish the fruit and yoghurt. The seating is outdoors which is very nice.
When we arrived there was no one on reception so we walked in and my husband was greeted with Who are You!
There was no information pack in the room but it was bought in later. There was dinner in the evening but very limited choice so we didn’t take it and had to drive out which wasn’t ideal as Lily Ponds is quiet remote. There is a small tv in the room so after going out for dinner we decided to put it on for an hour only to find that it’s disconnected. I asked the owner if someone could help me set it up was told that it was disconnected as there was no call for it! The next morning as we are early risers we made tea from the tea tray only to find that there was no milk. I went to the main building but it was locked and no-one was about. I waited for over an hour and eventually ended up having to drive out to the garage to pick up some milk for my tea. As you can imagine I wasn’t best pleased at not being able to have my tea when I got up. My husband told the owner and her reply was There’s no call for it! No call for milk in the room! Well I’m sorry but there is definitely call for milk with tea in the morning and it totally ruined my whole day. It’s the small things that can totally ruin what should have been a fabulous stay and for us it means that we wouldn’t return. The owner didn’t even apologise to me having to go out and fetch milk.
For future visitors also be aware that the dinner is not every night and you may have to drive out for dinner. The menu is limited so you may still have to drive out for dinner. If the owners decide there’s no call for a certain item then it may be missing.
