House / Villa next to lake - San Martin de Valdeiglesias (Madrid)

Lovely house with an amazing swimming pool. Great location to visit Avila, Toledo and Madrid.

My husband and I and our daughter and son-in-law traveled from Sheffield, England to spend a long weekend with one of our sons who lives in Madrid with his fiancé and their dog. This location was perfect for running, walking and spotting wildlife in a spectacular natural setting. We six adults (and dog) were very comfortable and enjoyed eating our meals on the terrace, having a BBQ and enjoyed having a fire in the fireplace on our last evening. The house design is amazing - what a treat to stay here! The house has obviously been designed to blend into the natural setting and allow the natural light to flow through the house and bring the outside in. There are side windows (with cleverly shaped shutters for privacy) that line up to allow light and the view of the garden and nearby lake and mountains to flow from the front through to the back of the house. A spiral staircase leads to the mezzanine level which has a seating area and another bedroom. We all found the design of the house fun and exciting to stay in. And if you are interested in architecture don't pass up the opportunity to stay here. The house is set in very large grounds with an abundance of trees and shrubs (and huge boulders!) promising great beauty later in the spring and summer. There are some scented shrubs already in blossom near the entrances. (and a large swimming pool for later in the year!) On three different occasions over the weekend we spotted from the terrace what we think may have been Iberian Imperial eagles circling overhead. And then a seaplane flew back and forth along the lake. We also spotted a red squirrel. And there is a house martin's nest! San Martin de Valdeiglesias is lovely and we used the Carrefour and Mercadona supermarkets. El Bosque Encantado overlooking San Martin is a very cleverly designed and entertaining botanical garden worth a visit. This is a fantastic place to stay. It is very comfortable and well equipped. The owners are very helpful and welcoming. We highly recommend it and we hope we get a chance to stay again. Susie and Keith Sheffield England 25-28 March 2022

We had an amazing time at casa salamandra. It is in a secluded location with an amazing view and surroundings. The host was very helpful and friendly. Lots of extras to enjoy an amazing weekend away.
