About this chalet rental

If you're looking for an Austrian style mountain chalet away from it all and with an air of utter tranquillity, then you're looking at the right place! Our house has room enough for up to 9 adults, with comfortable, cosy accommodation.

The kitchen, though quite small, is cleverly designed: several people can sit on the 'Sitzbank' around the table and keep out of the way, leaving whoever's cooking to get on with things unhindered. There's a small, traditional wood-burning stove - especially good on those colder days - and a Miele oven and hob for everyday use.

The sitting room - with an additional dining space, and table for 10 - has an Austrian 'Kachelofen' - a large, wood-fired tiled oven with power enough to warm the whole house through in winter. The room looks southwest and west, with stunning views of the distant Karawanken mountain range. Double doors lead out to the patio, with a large, locally made wooden table and seating for 8 or more, and retractable awning.

Both bathrooms have recently had a beautiful, complete modern refit - please see the photos.

We live in Klagenfurt and England, and use our house at Buggl in Bach mainly at the weekends. We're always happy to talk about places to visit, good walking routes, nearby ski areas etc. The house is more fully equipped than some 'holiday' accommodation, and you will often find jars of our home-made jam, chutney and so on which you're welcome to use!

Please note: for 8 Thursday evenings in summer, from 1900 to 2400, there are wonderful, traditional, musical evenings at the neighbouring farmhouse (200 m walk), with drinks and food available - these evenings are famous in Carinthia. As a special arrangement for our guests, please mention that you are staying at our house, and you will receive a discount of €20 per person from any food and drinks you order.

This is a remarkable property set in the stunning Austrian Alm. If you want to immerse yourself in the Austrian countryside, swim in lakes, and generally get away from it all, this place it perfect. We had a fabulous holiday. The house has everything you need, plenty of space, and views that constantly change and never get boring. We loved it.

We had a great stay at Buggl in Bach for two weeks. The homely, clean and comfortable chalet, perched on the hillside, offered spectacular views and peaceful rural charm. Our hosts provided excellent accommodation, a well equipped kitchen and bathrooms. The information provided was accurate and comprehensive; with books, games and jigsaw puzzles for a few wet days really appreciated. We were happy making the drive up the hill each time we went out, but the location also ensured peace and quiet when we were there with panoramic views to gaze upon, birds to watch, wild flowers to find and rural Carinthian life to watch. A perfect holiday.

Commentaire: We were a French family of six, spending Christmas and New Year holidays. The house is very comfortable and quiet, the scenic view from the living room and terrace simply fantastic. Everything was prepared in advance up to the last detail like Christmas tree and welcome gifts such as bottles of wine and the excellent Harry’s cake. We immediately felt very welcome and like at home. We also got very useful practical hints before coming, like shop locations and opening time. The Wilsons are the best remote hosts ever ! We had several hiking paths in the surroundings, discovering everyday more beautiful scenic views in the direct nearby hiking ways. We could also enjoy some close trips to touristic places like Klagenfurt, the viewing tower on Pyramidenkogel and Velden with its famous “Schloss am Wörthersee” (my favorite 80’s Austrian series ;-) One of the highlights: on the evening of 24th of December, the neighbor farmer appeared in the house with his son and grandchildren, traditionally dressed, to bless the house with holy water and smoking encens. We were all totally unprepared and surprised, wondering for a few seconds what was going on there like in a dream. The next days, when we met the neighbors at the Jausenstation Stubinger; we got to learn that this is an Austrian tradition in the countryside. We enjoyed how friendly and pleasant they are, and also appreciated their live music performance at a special new year event. Many thanks Kathy, Paul and Harry for the unforgettable time we had in your house !

This lovely and comfortable house is beautifully situated and has fantastic views. It is strategically located, with many attractions nearby (e.g. cycling around Wörther See, hiking around Turracher höhe). An idyllic lake is down the road for a swim on hot days. Great hiking can start at the back of the house. Owners are very friendly and welcoming. Excellent bbq. Definitely a place to come back to! A week was too short to explore the area. For some people it might be good to know that a (or, in our experience two) cat(s) call this house home and are very present a lot of the time.

Wij (man-vrouw 72-80 jaar) hebben in juni twee weken doorgebracht in Buggl in Bach, een gehucht in Karinthië. Een fantastische locatie. Voor ons gold: alles 'klopt'. Het huis voelde goed, uit alles blijkt dat het huis ten dienste staat van de gast. (De cake, het fruit, de wijn en ander lekkers was een leuke binnenkomer) Er is veel leefruimte. Maar waar we als een baksteen voor vielen was het prachtige terras met het uitzicht en de overweldigende stilte. Ongeëvenaard. Naar onze mening: werkelijk een oord om tot rust te komen!

I spent a wonderfully peaceful week at Paul and Kathy's house in Buggl. It was the end of the winter so I managed to get a couple of days of skiing in at local resorts (around one hour's drive) and also enjoyed some gentle strolling in the hills straight from the house; one day lunching in Italy, and a trip to Lake Bled another day. The property was very well equipped with everything one might require and all correspondence with Paul and Kathy prior to my visit was replied to very promptly and efficiently. They were great hosts.

Wir (7 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder) hatten eine wunderbare Zeit in Buggl in Bach, inkl. 2 x Dämmerschoppen beim Stubinger (eine zunächst ungewohnte, aber durchaus erlebenswerte Abwechslung, die man mitnehmen sollte). Wir haben die Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit genossen und uns in dem Haus sehr wohl gefühlt.

This chalet is well situated at 1100 meters enjoying a fantastic view and offering all you need. It can be easily reached by car and has really everything you may need. Paul and Kathy are great hosts, we had a perfect time and can recommend this chalet.

You wanna know where the Yeti sleeps? This place is really at the end of the world. You can feel free to stay with bounch of friends or huge family as well. There is no chance to disturb someone except the Yeti. However the lenght to the hill is really easy to reach by the car. if you wanna try more skiing resorts is the perfect location. The nearest resort is suitable for one or two days or for skiing with children. The house was spacious, clean, comfy and traditionally furnitured. If you choose this property you will not step on the mine. We have spent here one week and we are gonna get back. The homeowner is the best virual ghost. We havent met but everything was perfectly prepared like the cake, farm products,snaps, beer, the warm of the home etc. We felt embarassed we havent brought any gift - thats critics part of the rewiev. All in all the best accommodation we ever had

Everything was excellent! The accommodation was very comfortable with everything you need, and situated in the most wonderful scenery. Paul and Kathy have been extremely kind and helpful before, during and also after our stay. We loved being able to walk straight from the house and just looking at the local views and listening to the cow bells – bliss. The scenery in Austria is beautiful with attractive little villages like Gurk and Freisach and lovely alpine places to walk. We also liked being close enough to visit Slovenia, especially the Soca valley, Vrsic and Ljubljana.

À stay in this house is really enjoyable. Buggl in Bach is very small and a pretty long drive (15 minutes) up the mountain, but whilst there one can enjoy wonderful views and it is a perfect starting point for nice walks. Paul and Kathy provider a warm welcome with all kinds of local products. Everything you need to make your stay pleasant is provided for in the house. Once a week there is a big party nextdoor (dammerschoppen). We highly recommend this house. We bought Karnten cards for our family (9 persons) which made the stay in Karnten very enjoyable.

Obwohl wir (9 Personen, 2 Familien mit Kindern) erst ein paar Tage vor unserem Aufenthalt gebucht hatten, wurden wir mit Kuchen, Wein, Milch und Obst sehr nett begrüßt. Die Zimmer waren bereits beheizt, die Betten waren bezogen und jeder hatte ein eigenes Badehandtuch. Das Haus ist groß genug für 8-9 Personen, liebevoll eingerichtet und uns hat es an nichts gefehlt. Zum Skifahren sind wir an zwei Tagen zum Gerlitzen gefahren (ca. 45 Minuten), ansonsten waren wir oft wandern. Auch das näher gelegenen Skigebiet Simonhöhe haben wir zu Fuß erkundet. Dieses Gebiet ist eher familiär, für Anfänger und kleinere Kinder gut geeignet. Besonders genossen haben wir die Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit, die Aussicht vom Haus, den Kachelofen und den absolut leckeren Kaiserschmarrn, den wir bei Stubingers ein paar Schritte weiter (nach Vorbestellung) essen durften. Da Buggl in Bach schon sehr abgelegen liegt, empfiehlt es sich alle Einkäufe vorab zu besorgen.

we had a wonderful vacation at this beautiful holiday home. The house itself is very spacious, very clean, well maintained and aesthetic. It felt like a real home, and had everything we needed and more...But the highlight of this place is the outside: the garden , the balcony- it felt as if we are in a dream, the view is breath taking. sitting outside ,we could not be fed up! we did not want to leave this spectacular place. we had plenty of things to do around: the lake nearby is wonderful, and we used Carinthia card for activities not far from buggl in bach. last but not least, the owners welcomed us so warmly with home made products, were so kind answering all our questions, trying to assist when needed. we were very pleased and recommend this holiday home !

Wir waren mit 8 Freunden über Silvester hier und haben unseren Aufenthalt mehr als genossen! Als erstes waren wir von der wunderschönen abgelegenen Lage begeistert, mitten in den Bergen, total ruhig und mit einer wunderschönen Aussicht! Wir wurden sehr sehr herzlich von den Vermietern willkommen geheißen, die leider nicht persönlich da sein konnten uns aber mit leckeren Köstlichkeiten aus der Küche begrüßten. Das Haus ist sehr wohnlich und liebevoll eingerichtet und es gibt wirklich alles, was man in einem Haushalt benötigt. Kathy und Paul haben zahlreiche Informationen und Tipps zu dem Haus und zur Umgebung gesammelt und wirklich an alles gedacht, was für Besucher hilfreich sein könnte. Vom Haus aus konnten wir täglich ausgedehnte Spaziergänge durch die Natur machen und besonders die Aussicht war dabei immer wieder grandios! Nochmal ein großes Danke an Kathy und Paul für den freundlichen und hilfsbereiten Kontakt. Wir haben uns mehr als wohlgefühlt und ein wunderbares Silvester verbracht. We were extremely comfortable in this beautiful home in a quiet and yet very interesting area of Carinthia. Surrounded by fields, woods, mountains and many lakes, there was no lack of things to do and see. There is a pleasant and extremely clean bathing lake nearby, with a restaurant serving Kaffee and Strudel every day in summer. The local hiking was great, many options. There were bicycle rentals in nearby towns, along the Drau River and the Ossiacher See. The local farm hosts a musical evening with dinner and drinks available every week in the summer, quite a cultural experience! The owners of this house were most gracious to us in every way. I could not recommend this spot more highly!

We spent 2 weeks up in Buggl in Bach and enjoyed it tremendously. We were pleasantly surprised by how homely the house felt, it has been fitted out with all the necessary utensils that a holiday house should need which made our family stay stress free. The house was clean, well maintained and very homely with plenty of space for our 5 kids and the internet facilities met our needs perfectly. It was lovely relaxing in such a beautiful remote Austrian setting with a breath taking mountain scenery all around at 1.100m. Last but not least, the pictures do not do the place as much justice as it deserves, it is far more beautiful in real life. To wrap it up, we will and shall recommend Buggl in Bach to our friends and relatives. Paul and Katty, once again many thanks for your hospitality and excellent customer service.

Wir haben uns sehr kurzfristig für diesen Urlaub entschieden. Der Vermieter, Paul, war sehr flexibel und kommunikativ, und hat für uns ein Willkommensgeschenk mit selbstgebackenem Kuchen bereitgestellt! Es war ein echtes Almfeeling, aber ohne auf etwas verzichten zu müssen. Die Aussicht und die Ruhe des Ortes sind wunderbar. Ein Minuspunkt: die Betten waren für uns viel zu weich. Insgesamt aber wirklich ein besonders entspannender Urlaub, sehr empfehlenswert.

Wir (Familie mit 2 Kindern+ Großeltern) haben zwei wunderschöne Juniwochen in dem sehr gut ausgestatteten Ferienhaus verbracht. Die Aussicht von der Terrasse ist traumhaft! Dafür muss man in Kauf nehmen, dass der nächste Badesee und die nächste Einkaufsmöglichkeit ca. 10- 15 Minuten weit entfernt in St. Urban liegt. Nebenan gibt es einen Bauernhof mit Jausenstation, bei dem man auch alltägliche Dinge, wie Brot, Butter, Wurst...erwerben kann. Für unsere Kinder waren die Tiere mit Kuh, Katzen, Hund und Huhn ein tägliches Highlight. Direkt von der Unterkunft kann man Wanderungen unternehmen. Die Kommunikation mit den Vermietern ist einwandfrei- vielen Dank Paul!

Wir haben eine tolle Woche in Paul und Kathys Haus verbracht. Die Lage des Objektes ist wirklich wunderschön, ein traumhafter Ausblick und sehr ruhig! Wir konnten nicht nur ein tolles Silvester Feuerwerk vom Balkon aus ( mit Blick ins Tal ) beobachten. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt, im Haus ist alles vorhanden was benötigt wird, es lädt absolut zum erholen ein! Der Kontakt zu Paul ist super, er ist jederzeit erreichbar. Vielen lieben Dank für eure Gastfreundschaft und das wir eure Gäste sein durften.

Wir haben drei herrliche Wochen in traumhafter Umgebung verbracht. Im Haus von Paul und Kathy kann man sich super erholen. Es ist alles da, was man braucht. Die Küche ist sehr gut ausgestattet. Bei schönem Wetter sitzt man mit traumhafter Aussicht auf der Terrasse und ansonsten kann man es sich im gemütlichen Wohnzimmer bequem machen. In St. Urban gibt es einen kleinen Lebensmittelladen für die wichtigsten Dinge. Die Umgebung bietet viele schöne Unternehmungen an, für die man allerdings etwas fahren muss. Alles in allem ein sehr erholsamer Urlaub!!
