My partner and I did not feel safe at this hotel and there was an odd smell everywhere.

We moved from out-of-the country to Salem, OR and stayed for a month at the Howard Johnson on Mission St. We needed the time to get ourselves set up in our new life here. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was central enough that we could get anywhere we needed easily. The breakfast food was basic but edible and plentiful. Although the hotel was busy, out room was usually quiet. The TV remote was a bit difficult to figure out, but we finally made it work. Overall, a good experience.

If you are not too fussy about scent and cleanliness and you want to save money, I can recommend this HOJO. Friendly front counter, edible breakfast. I believe pets are welcome as I saw and heard some furry friends near the rooms, but I can't be positive. The room was good sized with coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge. One of the beds had something on the sheets and 2 of the pillows which we had housekeeping change out. The shower floor could do with a good cleaning. The room itself had a funky smell, but after opening the window, we were able to air it out. I would recommend this place for someone on a budget. The staff is friendly, the room is about 90% clean, and you get a free breakfast.
