The location and the valet staff was great!

The front desk staff was not very attentive. Our bath tub did not get hot water the whole time. Our shower on night 2 did not get hot water. We could not figure out how to adjust the air temp.

Location

I went in and out constantly to smoke, they even had to open the door for me. Never once smoked inside, still got charged 250$ for smoking inside. Was dead asleep and they come two separate times over smoking. Again, not once was I smoking inside. I even told them every person that had to unlock the door for me countless times. Didn’t matter

We had a nice room

We booked a room w 2 queens. We were the ONLY guests there (after ice storm - city was closed). We were told the only rooms available were on the 2nd floor and looked out into a dark alley. The smell of the room was not good. If we wanted a room on the other side with light, we needed to pay a $50 upgrade. We did.

A relaxing winter weekend.

The room s are absolutely beautiful in their period decor.

There is now a bar with live music until around 11pm and it was quite loud in the room. Also the hotel gym treadmill was in bad shape with a slipping tread. Felt like walking on ice.

It’s outdated as it’s a former department store, which I was not aware when I booked. Only one elevator. No dining on site.

Clean and accommodating

Gorgeous at Christmas! Very classy and well appointed. Every staff member was very pleasant and accommodating. Champagne was cold and the people were warm. Best. Bed. Ever. Huge suite. Valet was quick and kind. Everything is so close and very walkable.

The exterior after ours entry bell was broken and was locked out for a short period, but they came right away and I think they got that repaired. Sink in bathroom backed up a little, very slow drainage.

Such a unique and local to everything experience. Loved it!

We loved the uniqueness of the hotel being an old department store with each floor a different shopping department. We stayed on the 3rd floor which was “children’s apparel”. Very unique. The rooms are HUGE and we loved that so much. So close to EVERYTHING and in 4 days, we never used our car once. Will definitely be back.

There wasn’t a microwave in the room but that could have just been the room we were in. I also like to have disposable cups for coffee and drinks but being a classier place, they had real glass and mugs which is fine but I always feel the need to re-clean them before I use them.

PSA: Stay somewhere else!

The people who interact with customers are nice and attempt to be helpful.

I consider this a public service announcement: do not stay here! Trucks are beeping loudly enough ALL NIGHT to be heard through earplugs. The front desk person said they can't do anything about it because it's the city's responsibility. First of all, what city won't work with its businesses to support them? But nonetheless, this business is selling a product that they know is deficient. They are literally selling sleep, and they can not deliver reasonably. Do not stay here!

The location is amazing. Right in the heart of downtown Asheville. We hardly used the car. Room was spacious, bathroom well appointed.

The rooms seemed a bit outdated. There was a corded phone right next to the toilet, and the shower was a tub shower combo with a sliding door straight from the 90s that was sometimes stubborn to open.

The historic hotel offered a comfortable stay in a great location. Keeping the old department store vibe made it a memorable stay.

Cool old department store turned into a hotel. Fun gimmick but affective. Room was big with separate bedroom and lots of comfortable seating. Easy to access and great location.

Bed was very hard even as someone who prefers a firm mattress. Valet was a little hard to get to at check in and no self park option.

Local gem in restored historic building

Fabulous reuse of a historic building instead of tearing it down and building a new one from scratch. Nice mix of commercial and hotel space. Updated lobby and common areas do great justice to the history. Room was very comfortable and well-equipped - robes and slippers were a nice touch. Hotel staff were all very polite and customer-service oriented.

Microwave in room would have been nice, but we used the one by the front desk and that was just fine.

Our room did not have a shower head, just a wand! Also, they evidently charged us twice for parking without explanation. I was asked to send an email to someone named Ashley, and both went unanswered.

Charming historic hotel with great staff and spacious rooms

It was a brilliant hotel, with lots of charm, well-located, and with lovely accommodating staff. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the little perks, like a glass of prosecco when we checked in. The spa was also a great experience. We will definitely come back if we are in Asheville!

Was historical and the location. Also staff were very helpful and it was clean and comfortable.

We had a room on the ally side , 2nd floor, and Friday morning at 6 am the garbage trucks came until 8 am. I would ask for a room on the opposite side or maybe higher up. There are always ear plugs lol

Lovely historic gem of a property with HUGE rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. New onsite restaurant had live music as we entered the hotel on Saturday so hearing the Western swing band added to the fab experience.

Next time I will choose a different hotel.

I arrived at 2;30 and was told that the room should be ready in about 10 minutes. I returned in 15 minutes and was told that it should be ready in 10 minutes but it was guaranteed at 3:00. I waited until after 3 and was offered champagne which I declined. Much later I was approached very kindly and told my room was ready. I went to the room at it was enormous. with way too much room for one person. Later I went to bed and the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. The next night I stayed near the airport at a hotel less than half the price. The room was better an the bed much more comfortable.

I did not like that the room was not ready at 3:00 and even though it was guaranteed, the guarantee meant nothing. I did not like the room which was long and narrow and the bed uncomfortable.

Fancy hotel for an inexpensive price!

The room was huge! Very clean and comfortable. Loved the 2 separate sink areas with one having a bench for easy makeup application. The hotel did a great job incorporating elements from the original department stores. Right in the middle of town, easy walk to everything. Nice bar at the back of the hotel.

Slightly disappointed that the restaurant wasn’t open on the days we were there. Wasn’t aware prior to visit that there was an extra charge with the valet parking, but the service was great!

Great location and amenities, needs some attention.

The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The facility is in a great location and has nice amenities. Valet parking was very good and a great value.

WIFI was extremely weak and dropped out so much I could not use it. The room smelled like a gym towel, seems like a carpet issue.
