I recommend this hotel!

I really enjoyed my stay at Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel. The room with the courtyard view and terrace was very comfortable and well-equipped. The location is excellent, close to the beach and local dining options like Windmill Food Hall. The staff was professional and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a San Diego vacation.

Great location! Walking distance from mall, restaurants. Legoland is super close too. Rooms are fully renovated, clean floors and comfortable beds. There are a microwave and small fridge in the room. Nice pool area--it is a heated pool but we felt the water was too cold though. They have jacuzzi as well. Pool area is fenced.

Wish the water of the pool was warmer and wish they would include breakfast--something not too elaborated but when you're traveling with kids it is definitely a plus to be able to wake up and grab and oatmeal or a crossaint.

I liked the shower and modern room location was very convienent with stores and an outlet nearby

Ofiice being remodled and at first was confused on temp office location because it rained also with the rain the hotel floors were extremely dirty so i had to clean the floors multiple times, maybe add a rug for rain/dirt. I also wish they provided breakfast but there were alot of eateries around.

It was an ok stay if it wasn’t for the shower drained and toilet dilemma.

Customer service was good. Friendly staff.

The bathroom shower didn’t drain properly as well as leaking toilet water and when reported to get fixed it wasn’t fixed completely. The maintenance person left the bathroom dirty, didn’t clean the mess he made, remnants from the shower drain was all over the shower floor, and the problem still remained. I was offered to change rooms but it was inconvenient as it was late and my family and I were ready to settle in for the night. I was given an $18 “sorry for the inconvenience discount” though.

From check-in to check-out, my experience at this hotel was disappointing and uncomfortable. I arrived around 7 PM and had noted during booking that I was celebrating my birthday. While not a major issue, I was surprised that the staff didn’t acknowledge it at all, as most hotels I’ve stayed at in the past have at least offered a friendly greeting. The room itself was rundown, stuffy, and hot. Since the area was experiencing a humid heatwave, I immediately tried to cool the room by adjusting the AC, but nothing improved. After unpacking, I called the front desk, and since there was no maintenance available on Sunday evening, they sent a large floor fan. The fan was unstable, constantly tipping over and startling both me and my dog. Unfortunately, the room never cooled down, staying around 78 degrees with high humidity, making it difficult to rest. By Monday morning, the room was still hot, but after the lack of care at check-in, I didn’t want to waste more time calling the front desk again. Around noon, maintenance showed up, but instead of waiting after knocking, the man barged into my room uninvited. I was completely shocked—this has never happened in any of my hotel stays. My dog began barking, and I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. I immediately reported the incident to the front desk, but their response showed no sympathy or professionalism. Combined with the broken AC, thin walls, lack of rest, and overall uncleanliness of the room, this was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve experienced. I left irritated, disappointed, and certain that I would never return or recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a comfortable or professional experience. Not only did it feel unsafe, the room was filthy, hadn't been mopped, the table was sticky, and the sheets were so old they felt like bread crumbs, but it was threading! Save ur money, go elsewhere.

Nice, but also disappointing.

The property was beautifully landscaped and had a great atmosphere. The pool was great. The 3 1/2 feet portion was big and great for families with small children.

The spa was unavailable as was the fitness center and laundry. Also there was no breakfast as advertised on the booking. Com website when I booked the room. Second time that has happened. The hotel said they haven’t provided breakfast for years. Very frustrating because it was not a very good value with no breakfast and 2 of the things I want when I booked a room unavailable.

Quiet, plenty of free parking, easy in and out. Renovations going on but not disruptive. Access to lots of shops and restaurants. The room had nice upgrades - barn door sliding glass shower door, Kohler rainfall showerhead with matching rainfaill sink faucet. All the indoor hardware was updated to match the style. Microwave was included which is rare in the Carlsbad hotels.

Good value, clean, and comfortable Hotel

Lovely hotel clean and comfortable in a convenient location with a lovely pool in a peaceful setting. Free shuttle service to Legoland. Great staff and customer service. Our Kudos to the Hotel Manager, Elisabeth, and Dee who all provided exceptional customer service. Free parking. Prime outlets just across the street housed restaurants and shops. Other restaurants and convient stores and gas station within a 5 minute walking distance. This hotel was a great value and location for the area. Recommend having a car to get around. We enjoyed going round trip by the Coaster Train from Carlsbad station to San Diego Old Town Mission Transfer Station and then took an Uber to the San Diego Zoo round trip then back to the Old Town Historic area to tour, shop, dine, and returned by the coaster train back to Carlsbad.

Breakfast was not included. Laundry room was out of order during our stay due to the Washing machine being repaired. It cost $40 roundtrip taxi fare 2-3 miles away by freeway at a nice laundromat on Tamarack Road. The cost in quarters $4 per load to wash and up to $1 to dry. While doing our laundry we ate at a great cafe / pie restaurant across the street and shopped at a Vons market for grocery's. Recommend that lamps and nightstand be installed and located on each side of each queen bed in the hotel rooms. A laundry room provided between each hotel bldg. section.

Perfect Location for a Legoland Trip! We had a great stay at this hotel! One of the best parts was how incredibly close it is to Legoland—less than 10 minutes away, which made it super convenient, especially after a long day of walking and having fun. Being able to get back quickly and relax was such a bonus. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, and the outlet mall is right across the street—just a short, easy walk. It made grabbing a bite or doing a little shopping really convenient. The parking is great- you park right in front of your room if available! There’s a little patio out in the back and it’s a big beautiful green area perfect for toddlers to run around and in the morning.. Overall, the location couldn’t have been better. Highly recommend for anyone planning a Legoland trip!

One thing to note: our room didn’t have a phone, and we looked everywhere. I know the hotel is going through renovations, so that might explain it, but it was still a bit unexpected. Still, we enjoyed our visit and would consider staying again.
