The Ocean Key Virginia Beach Resort

Close to the beach.

The hallways were hot and stuffy.

The staff were nice and friendly very informative when checking in knowing about the local area and what was happening with the upcoming weekend festival. Also having activities onsite daily was a plus. The location was awesome right across the street from boardwalk and beach. So many food options nearby and souvenir shops. There even was a trolley that stopped right in front of the hotel if you walked too much and didn’t want to walk back. It was cleaned and set up nicely. Beautiful view!

The rooms were nice and seemed to be recently updated, however, some updates seemed to be an afterthought and were not completed well. Proximity to the beach was nice.

One of the two elevators was out of service, which we were told during check in that it was being serviced and should be up and running the next day. It was never fixed during our stay and after talking with other guests, it seems as though the elevator has been down for some time now. Only one working elevator caused long wait times and it often stoped at every floor for people that were waiting and then decided to take the stairs. So even if you were lucky enough to catch the elevator, you would stop at every floor. We were informed before we arrived that the hot tub was not working, which also seemed like it was a recent issue, after arriving and seeing the permeant wooden box constructed over the hot tub it was clear that this was an on going issue as well. The ice machine on our floor was out of service. The over all cleanliness of the resort was subpar, on the surface things look clean but don’t look too close, you will find gunk and hair caked on the drains around the indoor pool, dirty floors and our bathroom floor was filthy with sand, hair and dirt from the previous guests. The sidewalks around the resort are also dirty and never seemed to be monitored for trash. There were cigarette butts and rotten food on them. Also, the pool is located right in the lobby which seems very odd. Early on the morning of our check out the cleaning crew outside our room was very loud and were using foul language as they talked with each other about family issues.
