River Cottage is excellently positioned on the edge of the tranquil village of Boudreville bordering the Chatillonnais forests in North Burgundy. Ideally placed to discover and explore the region or simply relax away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

On entering the main entrance gates, you are welcomed with the beautiful countryside of the Aube valley with its forests and rolling hills. The cottage is set in a private 2 acre park of meadows, orchards and wooded areas and the river Aube which runs alongside the grounds of the property providing a haven for wildlife (trout, deer etc). It has a private south facing garden with secluded patio area and is fully enclosed making it safe for small children. There is an above ground swimming pool of 5m diameter - sole use for the gite - private - ideal for relaxing and cooling down - this is available from 1st May to the end of September.

The cottage itself is a beautiful and historic building, which has been fully renovated by the current owners who have carefully restored many of the original features whilst providing a high level of comfort and space. One of the highlights being the large “Burgundy” style kitchen / dining room and separate sitting room showing original oak beams, large stone fireplace, open stone walls, burgundy floor tiles, and stone cut washing bowl, which historically allowed the release of water under the main window! There are 3 large double bedrooms and a large family bathroom.

Gorgeous cosy house surrounded by trees and a river. Unfortunately the weather prevented us using the pool very much but instead we got to do walks in the surrounding woodlands and enjoy the local cuisine. The hosts were fantastic and so helpful.

Stayed here for a week. It's the perfect place for tranquility. The gite is gorgeous and cosy and the garden is amazing. Our dogs were in heaven! Paul & Julie are so welcoming and we would love to stay here again. Iur

Loved couple. Property was too small for our family of 5. Sadly no fans or air con so the heat was unbearable and stoped us sleeping.. Lovely grounds. Kids spent 6 to 8 hours a day in the pool. Cute little accommodation. Had to drive far away to find nearest civilisation for my kids to practise their french on.

I have been received by the owner of the house very warm an felt welcome. They were reachable at any moment. The house is nice and cosy, the garden huge, the village very calm and the nature around beautifull. During my stay I made many long walks starting directly at the house. I guess I'll be coming back.

Paul & Julie were amazing hosts. Super friendly and available for all our questions and concerns. The cottage was beautiful with a fantastic garden bordering a river. The forest was easily accessible from multiple walking paths. The house was well equipped and clean & the beds were very comfortable. There was much to discover in this region of France and we had a great time and will be back.

We had a great stay at River Cottage, the garden was great for our three small kids with lots of shade by the river in hot weather. The cottage is well appointed in a traditional style and the local area is very quiet so great for a relaxing holiday.

We enjoyed a lovely 2 weeks in Boudreville in a beautiful setting. We were looking for a property where our dog could run around freely in a secure environment, ideally with access to water. Paul and Julie's property offered just that, with a large garden leading to a small river at the bottom, and swimming was by far our dog's favourite pass-time for the 2 weeks. As for ourselves, we thoroughly enjoyed the piece and quiet of Burgundy, which proved to be a great area to explore on bike, together with Paul on one occasion. The area is very quiet with the nearest town with a supermarket a 15-20 drive away. During our stay we made the most of the warm sunny weather and the garden, enjoying the local food, wine and cremant. Paul and Julie were always available to help with questions and ensured we had a very relaxing time. We certainly hope to come back for another holiday.

The cottage was very lovely with a great garden with river which was really nice for our son. The house and kitchen were very well equipped. Possibility to go walking in full nature right from the house. Many towns to visit : we went to Troyes, Flavigny sur Ozerain, Langres. All lovely towns. Also trout fishing nearby which was a great experience for our Son. We really enjoyed our stay !

We had an excellent stay at River cottage. Paul and Julie are very kind and well-organized hosts. They have been really accommodating throughout. A big thank you. The only (small) downside: the living room is really small (3 seats) and not very comfy, which is only a problem in case of bad weather. We were 2 families and it was great for 1 week-end, but I would not recommend for a longer holiday. Kitchen is quite dark to eat in the evening. Otherwise we really enjoyed the garden and the rooms. The area is really great. We particularly enjoyed the nearby fish farm, Chatillon and the hikes in the wood. I recommend the place for 1 family without hesitation and would love to stay there again if we returned in the area.

An excellent and truly relaxing two weeks in River Cottage, in the pretty village of Boudreville in Northern Burgundy. The cottage is comfortable and modern whilst retaining the traditional features that really made us feel that we were somewhere unique. We loved the extensive gardens and grounds surrounding the cottage, in particular the river running alongside the property. It gave our girls their first (very memorable!) first experience of 'wild' swimming - just great. Paul and Julie were exceptionally welcoming and helpful hosts, pointing us in the direction of things to do, local walks and beauty spots and places to go that fitted our interests. The cottage is in easy reach of historic cities like Dijon and Troyes, but my favourites were the beautiful, world heritage Abbey de Fontenay and the understated, but incredibly pretty village of Flavigny sur Ozerain (where the film 'Chocolat' was filmed). The boulangerie in Montaigne was an easy cycle away, so we were well supplied with croissants, fresh baguettes and amazing pain au raisin most mornings. We would not hesitate to recommend River Cottage to families wanting a relaxing (or active!) holiday, in a beautiful area with access to many cultural and historic sites. A lovely, lovely holiday.

A lovely place to stay, we look for places where we can spend as much time outdoors as we can, lots of interesting walks from the front door and this fitted brilliantly. The cottage has a spacious kitchen in which we lived as it remained cool during heatwaves.Big garden with one section by the river which provided hours of relaxation watching out for wildlife, long lunches and guilt-free nodding off. There are boulangeries in nearby villages for the daily croissant fix and a wide range of shops in the nearby towns. The beds are comfortable, wifi works well, the work done to make this into a great place has been extensive and successful. The five stars are for the stay, it's not a stately home but a fabulous holiday house - think shorts and espadrilles The owners are next door, very helpful and a pleasure to talk to. Highly recommended.

If you're looking to get away from it all then look no further. Its a lovely character cottage that has been thoughtfully renovated. Sat next to a stream, in a huge garden, and on the edge of a stunning forrest its hard to imagine anything more relaxing - particularly if you like spending time outdoors. The owners live next door so help is at hand should you need it. The village itself is very small (no shop) but with a bit of planning its not a problem - lots of (stunning!) villages dotted around for the morning bakery run. Its like stepping back in time in most respects, but mobile reception is good (as is wifi at the property) The owners were warm, welcoming and very helpful. Only thing to look out for if hiking in the forrest are ticks - we pulled about 15 off of our dog in the week we were there so just need to take usual precautions - not a big deal.
