Hotel des Arts

Apart from being bitten all over and finding bugs in the bed (shown to both staff there and Agoda), staff / customer service from both the hotel and Agoda assured me they were processing the discount, then palmed me off to each other multiple times. I had booked almost only with Agoda up to this experience, but it's shown that the VIP Diamond tier is a marketing tool and assistance was minimal. For what would have been a total 10-night stay in total, I've lost thousands of dollars and can still see the bite marks... and learned that the rooms are overpriced for what the place is, which is more of a hostel with a few hotel rooms (and broken/dismantled ice machine, FYI). The theme is interesting but quality of the art seems hit or miss. From my arrival in the afternoon, there was no one on reception (I learned there is someone until 3, but often away from the desk) and I'd been sent no instructions, and found others in the same position. Once someone answered after my 5 attempted calls, the Open Key system didn't work for the room, so I had to call a few more times for a code to go back downstairs to get a physical key. After finding the bugs and being bitten, I was told that there were no other rooms, so had to book elsewhere, but was assured I would get a full refund. I called that day again to confirm and was again assured by a different person that it had been processed for this and the booking for the following night, and have followed up with both the hotel and Agoda in the weeks since and no one will now confirm the refund that they assured me had been processed. A staff member did confirm that they rebooked the room (***) once I left, and actively refused to give me their manager's name, who I'd been originally told had authorised the refund. Nice.

Go back this is the last time we stayed. And the staff didn't do anything until the following morning when we discover them in the middle of the night. We didn't get to change rooms until mid-morning. I was offered to get another hotel because there was apparently no rooms available until the next day. But I would have to come out-of-pocket when they did not say that at the beginning. The manager is rude and not under. Standing at all whatsoever I would not recommend this hotel to anyone ever.

Hotel is good. Be aware that if you are not very tech savvy it will be a nit complicated. The key is an app on the phone, you receive this by SMS and I was not getting it as I had an esim. Quite responsive on whats app though. I suggest they remodel the bath tub, as curtains keep getting stuck to you while showering.

I had a great time staying at Hotel Des Arts. The room's vintage design, charming windows, and classic bathtub made me feel like I had stepped back in time. The location is also ideal—just a short walk to Chinatown and several must-try restaurants. I’ll definitely book this place again when I return to San Francisco.
