Nothing as we never went in.
We arrived at the Thunderbird Motor Inn just after 4:00 PM and noticed there were many unhoused people hanging around beside the hotel parking lot and across the street. The lot was void of any other vehicles, a ground floor unit door was open to our left within 20 feet of our vehicle. There were several people in the hotel room that were drinking and open drug use was obvious; the man at the door moved a couple plastic totes and boxes and was drinking. It definitely appeared they were living there and did not look like any luggage was in the room. An unhoused man walked his bicycle past us and went directly to the man at the open room where we watched an apparent drug transaction happen. Within a few seconds another man came down the stairs from the 2nd floor with a massive black eye and beat up looking face. He walked directly by looking aggressively towards us. We immediately decided that this was not a safe location to stay at and risk having our vehicle parked at. As we started to back up another man came out of the open ground floor room and was asking strange questions about our vehicle. We left promptly and drove several kilometers away to find a safe location for our stay.

It was close to where I was working, and it was very clean.
There was nothing I personally don’t like. Over all I think the property was well keep.

The manager was accommodating but the room was damp, smelly garbage below our door that was there for 3 days of our stay. Our friends room has fruit flys continually and they were not giving an option of another room and nothing was done to get rid of flys for the 6 days we were there.
Homeless neighborhood. Large Garbage bins full and not being emptied. The whole hotel is in bad need of repairs.

Location was great
Lots of fruit flies in our room. We also had mice who woke me up in the middle of the night squeeking at each other, dragging bread across the floor.

Comfy bed, lots of pillows good. Your linens were great. Very nice bedding. Cleanliness of room.
The surrounding street messes left by homeless.
Hopefully the street people will get relocated to an institution. No one bothered me but their presence is obvious. I live with Pandora Avenue issues in Victoria.
Thank you for providing security.

Room was spacious, and was the cheapest thing available on the southern half of Island. Staff were helpful
Not the cleanest. A bit grungy.
Hotel is in a lousy location with a lot of sketchy characters around. Don't leave valuables in your car

The location was convenient to my dental appointment early next morning. The staff was friendly and the place clean. The room was dated in terms of everything from decor through the plumbing, but they've clearly made an effort to keep it clean. And the towels and sheets were surprisingly nice.
It's not in a nicer part of town. I discovered that it's close to the fire-hall as the alarm went off in the wee hours.

Well maintained and easy access to all necessary stores, etc
Had absolutely no problems, but the number of street people in the area was a bit worrying. Also the fact that the restaraunt attached was closed. Ate there lots during a previous stay and found it to be excellent and very handy.

This place has seen better days. I booked it based on a stay here about 7-8 years ago when it was owned by a different family. At the time, it was well run and maintained for budget accommodations. When we arrived on our recent stay, I felt a moment of panic. The vegetation was overgrown, there were no cars in the parking lot. It looked like it was closed and out of business. It was in fact open and when I checked in, the rate was higher than what I had booked. Not the hotel’s fault, but there were homeless people camped out around the corner. Didn’t feel like the safest place. We won’t be back.

The price was good and the sheets and towels and the bathroom were clean.
Neighbourhood full of homeless people, overgrown vegetation and weeds everywhere. Location definitely in the sketchy part of town. Our room smelled of stale smoke and musty. Talked to the front desk but no other rooms available apparently. The bed spread was really heavy, old and musty smelling. Old tires stacked outside of our room.

The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. The view over the water was lovely and there were good restaurants close by. Especially The 50th Parallel.
A comfortable chair would have been a great addition. The Thunderbird was a pleasurable stop.

This motel is old and in need of a facelift . For example, the sink was all chipped. Just felt really worn out for the cost.

The bed clothing seemed clean.
The room was smelly, Two pest repeller gadgets plugged into the outlets in the room did not inspire confidence. The couch was dirty and old. The door had large gaps in the seal around much of the door.

The service was exceptional! We had a problem getting there on time. As a result we needed to call for someone to come check us in. It was 2 o'clock in the morning. The night watchman was kind enough to allow my husband and I to come in and wait in the lobby as it was cold and snowing outside. Due to the late hour I had woken the lady that came to our rescue. She was absolutely great! Checked us in, and was training the night watchman for future services at the same time. We came over for a celebration of life the following day and this lady took her time offering her condolences etc. And again in the morning when we had to check out. I'm sure we'll be staying here every time we travel to the Duncan area, as we already have a few times in the past. But this particular management...she knows how to treat people and gave us every courtesy considering I got her out of bed to come over in the middle of the night. The overall cleanliness of the room was also exceptional. Some places we've stayed have been... a bit scary to say the least.
For that particular stay, short as it was, everything was great. Couldn't have asked for better.

A big shout-out to the lady at the front desk on our check-out date, August 7, 2024. She genuinely collected our feedback and showed a sincere commitment to enhancing future guests' experiences. If we ever return to Duncan and choose to stay at this hotel, it will be entirely because of her.
There were some issues with the room, including stale air and a lack of conveniently placed power sockets. Under normal circumstances, these factors might have deterred me from returning. However, the exceptional service provided by one staff member (I apologize for not remembering her name) made a significant difference. Knowing that the hotel is under renovation and that the staff genuinely cares about guest feedback and improvements, I recommend giving this place a try.
Duncan’s location is convenient if you're traveling by car and plan to visit nearby spots like Victoria, Nanaimo, Cathedral Grove, and Duncan itself, which we discovered to be a hidden gem thanks to the helpful information provided by the same staff member.

The room was spacious, clean and quiet. Free parking in front of my room. Restaurant right there with good food. Staff was wonderful. Room was ready when I arrived even though I arrived 30 minutes earlier than I said I would be there.
TV was strangely very quiet even with volume turned up to max. Heating was difficult to control. The heater seemed to not have a thermostat and so even setting the heat at the lowest level, it still got rather warm in the room. I had to eventually turn the heat off for the night.
