I’ve stayed at Saintlo Ottawa Jail Hostel several times now, and it’s consistently one of the most unique and enjoyable places to stay in Ottawa.
Sleeping in a former jail cell is such a cool concept, but what really stands out is how clean, comfortable, and well-maintained everything is. It feels like a mix of history and modern hostel comfort done right.
The staff are always friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful, which makes a big difference. The atmosphere strikes a great balance too — social and lively if you want to meet people, but still calm enough to relax.
A big highlight for me is the breakfast — it’s actually really good and far better than what you’d expect, making mornings easy and enjoyable.
On top of that, the location is unbeatable — right downtown, close to major attractions, transit, and everything you need.
Overall, it’s affordable, reliable, and a place I keep coming back to without hesitation. Definitely a must-try if you want something different from a typical stay.

The location of the hostel was perfect and near downtown Ottawa. I stayed 1 night just for the experience and to sleep in the cell. it was good for 1 night, but for the future I will book a double cell, not a single one.
The single bed in the single cell is very small and the length was not perfect for me. The heating system is not good I feel cold during the night, and in the cell door there are 2 windows, and I closed the one down with my bag.
