I would not recommend the Clansman Motel to anyone. The pictures online are completely misleading — the reality of the rooms is far worse. The furniture was broken and in disrepair, and the room itself was extremely dirty. In the bathroom, the shower handle was held together with duct tape.
We also suspect that people may actually be living at the motel. There was a broken-down vehicle in front of the room next to ours, and the occupant of that room smoked outside our door all night, leaving our room smelling like smoke for the entirety of our stay.
The motel’s restaurant was just as disappointing. It took over 30 minutes for staff to take our order or even bring a glass of water. My wife’s fish dish was easily the worst she’s had on our entire trip through Canada. The staff appeared completely inattentive, staying behind the counter near the kitchen, never refilling our water or checking on us until delivering the bill for an overpriced and underwhelming meal.
Overall, the entire experience — from the room to the restaurant service — was unacceptable. I cannot recommend this motel in good conscience.
The only positive for this motel is location to the ferry port. We stayed at St. Ann’s Motel on our return (22 minutes from port) and this was one of our best experiences on our trip. Drive the little extra distance and get what is actually advertised.
