Surrounded by wide open fields dotted with cattle and livestock, this secluded lodge offers walking and cycling routes directly from the doorstep. Reach the coastline within minutes to discover the quiet beauty of Red Haven Beach (2 miles) and the charming seaside village of Auchencairn (2.5 miles). For a wider range of amenities, head to nearby Castle Douglas (7.5 miles), a vibrant market town on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park, home to independent shops, welcoming pubs and restaurants, as well as countless opportunities for outdoor adventure. The National Cycle Route 7 also passes nearby, making this an ideal destination for keen walkers and cyclists alike.
On arrival, pause for a moment to take in the peaceful surroundings - birdsong, rustling trees, and the absence of traffic noise create a wonderfully calming atmosphere. Follow the private gravel track down to the cottage and step inside to discover a warm and welcoming home-from-home. A spacious entrance hallway provides plenty of room for coats, boots and outdoor gear before leading into the heart of the house: the large open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Here, a wood burner positioned beside the dining table creates a wonderfully cosy setting for leisurely breakfasts and relaxed evening meals.A separate snug offers another inviting space to unwind, complete with an open fire and comfortable sofas - ideal for board games, reading and long conversations. In keeping with the property’s peaceful, back-to-basics charm, there is no TV, encouraging guests to truly switch off and enjoy one another’s company. At the opposite end of the house, a second lounge doubles as a family games room and playroom, featuring table tennis, toys, games and plenty of entertainment for all ages. A utility room and a downstairs bathroom add extra convenience on the ground floor. Upstairs, the accommodation is divided between two separate staircases, creating a sense of privacy and space. The first staircase leads to a double bedroom and a twin room, served by a shower room. The second staircase leads to the remaining two bedrooms - a king-size master bedroom and an additional twin room - alongside a second shower room. Every bedroom enjoys beautiful countryside views, providing a peaceful outlook to wake up to each morning.
Outside, the extensive garden is a true highlight. Once a former rockery, it has been beautifully landscaped and is now teeming with wildlife. As well as the constant soundtrack of birdsong, you may even spot deer wandering through the grounds. Outdoor seating, a BBQ area, a bonfire pit with additional seating and a charming children’s playhouse all encourage guests to make the most of the fresh air. Covered ponds and winding pathways through the surrounding woodland add to the garden’s magical atmosphere, while private parking for three cars is also available.
