About this house rental
Welcome to Casa Poca Farina, a characterful heritage house in the heart of L’Escala’s picturesque old town, just two minutes from the beach, market square, cafés, shops and restaurants. With patterned ceramic floors, vaulted ceilings, wooden shutters and a sunny private roof terrace, it’s full of warmth and charm. Step outside into village life, wander to the sea for a swim, and enjoy the Costa Brava like a local.
The space
Casa Poca Farina has been our home since 2008. John, an architect, led its sympathetic restoration after the house had stood empty for around 40 years, home only to pigeons. Many of the house’s original features were carefully retained. It stands in the historic heart of L’Escala and is included in Catalonia’s Architectural Heritage Inventory.
The house is arranged over three floors, with four bedrooms, a characterful kitchen and dining room, a top-floor sitting room and a private roof terrace.
On the ground floor, the small but well-equipped kitchen combines vintage marble worktops with wooden work surfaces and opens onto the dining room, perfect for an easy breakfast or a light meal at home.
The middle floor has four bright, charming and colourful bedrooms, each with its own distinctive character: a dreamy king-size bedroom with a tranquil, restful feel and lots of charm, one double bedroom and two single bedrooms. Original patterned floor tiles, high ceilings, traditional shutters, artwork and individual decorative touches give the rooms a warm, relaxed feel. This floor also has a bathroom and separate WC.
The house works especially well for families, but is also suitable for small groups of friends, and comfortably accommodates up to six guests.
At the top of the house is a sitting room leading directly onto the private roof terrace, one of our favourite places to spend time. Start the day with coffee in the sunshine, settle down with a book in the afternoon, or enjoy a glass of wine as the heat fades before heading out for dinner.
Throughout Casa Poca Farina, you’ll find a characterful mix of old and new, with books, pictures, vintage details and personal touches that make the house feel individual rather than anonymous.
Step outside and L’Escala is on your doorstep. The beach is just a couple of minutes away, as are the market square, bakeries, cafés, restaurants and shops. Morning swims, fresh bread, long lunches and evening strolls along the seafront can easily become part of the rhythm of your stay.
