Welcome to Mississippi Lake Retreat!

A beautifully renovated lakefront home on Mississippi Lake, just 45 minutes from Ottawa and 10 minutes from Carleton Place. In the colder months it's a cozy, quiet base for hot tub nights, fireside evenings, snowmobiling, ice fishing and remote work. In summer, the water is your backyard. Year-round, the sunsets over the lake are something special.

WINTER AT THE LAKE

- Watch the lake freeze and the snow fall from the living room, then head out to the hot tub.
- Professionally plowed driveway.
- Ice fishing right on Mississippi Lake. The lake is known for walleye, northern pike, yellow perch and panfish. A path leads from the yard to the shoreline; note the retaining wall and drop down to the ice at the water's edge, and use care. Bring your own gear (none is provided) and a valid Ontario fishing licence, and check the current species seasons (Fisheries Management Zone 18). The popular public access at Grasshopper Point (Mississippi Lake National Wildlife Area) is at the south end of the lake. *All ice activities are at your own risk. Always check ice conditions and thickness before going out.*
- Snowmobiling. Bring your sled! The Ottawa Valley Recreational Trail, the old railway line, is a short ride up the road from the house and links into the wider OFSC trail network. A valid OFSC trail permit is required, and please check the OFSC Interactive Trail Guide for open trails. There's no lake ramp from the house; trail access is via the road.
- Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing nearby. Explore 6 km of riverside trails at Mill of Kintail Conservation Area (~27 min; not groomed, so great for snowshoes), or head to the groomed classic and skate trails maintained by the Tay Valley Cross-Country Ski Club at Murphys Point Provincial Park (~50 min). Bring your own skis or snowshoes.
- Downhill and family snow days at Mount Pakenham (~45–50 min): 10 runs, night skiing, snowshoe trails, and rentals and lessons available.
- Fulton's Sugar Bush in Pakenham (~45 min) offers sleigh rides and maple taffy on snow in late-winter maple season.

THE HOME (YEAR-ROUND)

Ideally suited for 4 adults and 3 children across 3 bedrooms, including a flex room with a Murphy bed. All beds have high-quality mattresses for a great night's sleep.

- Private hot tub in the fully fenced front yard, running all year, with chemicals stocked on site. The yard also has an outdoor dining set and a BBQ (propane supplied).
- Indoor propane fireplace in the main living area. No firewood needed.
- Bright open-concept living area with floor-to-ceiling lake views, a large sectional, a wall-mounted TV with streaming, and a walkout to the back deck.
- Starlink high-speed WiFi: fast and reliable, good for video calls and streaming.
- Flex room with a Murphy desk, Murphy bed and workout equipment. Use it as a private office, a spare room for an extra guest, or a quiet retreat from the group. It's set up for a work week at the lake.
- Fully equipped kitchen with pots, pans, cookware, basic spices and oil, a Keurig coffee maker (a few pods provided), coffee percolator, kettle, air fryer and microwave. Just bring your food and personal items.
- Drinking water: reverse osmosis system in the kitchen; the well water has been tested and is in good standing. The 7-stage system with UV filter feeds the fridge, ice maker and a small tap at the kitchen sink, and all other taps are safe to drink from too.
- Bedding and towels included
- Washer and dryer, with some detergent provided
- Central heating and air conditioning with a Nest thermostat
- Paved driveway with parking for 4
- Self check-in with a smart lock and keypad, so you can arrive on your own schedule. Your unique door code will be sent before arrival. Check-in is 4:00 PM and check-out 10:00 AM; early check-in or late check-out may be available on request.
- Pet-friendly: well-behaved dogs are welcome for an additional pet fee.

SUMMER ON THE WATER (approx. end of May to end of September)

*Docks are in the water from approximately the end of May to the end of September, depending on weather and water levels. Outside that window the dock, swim stairs and watercraft are not available.*

Step off the back deck down to your private dock, a 20x16 ft entertainer's dream. Relax in the partially covered lounge area with Adirondack chairs and pull-out footstools, or soak up the sun on the open section. As evening rolls in, gather around the propane fire table right on the dock and watch the sunset.

*Propane for the dock fire table is not supplied. Guests must bring their own standard propane tank. Exchanges are available within 10 minutes at Canadian Tire, Make Space Storage, Esso, or the Walmart propane vending machine.*

Stairs with a railing lead from the dock into the lake. The shoreline has a hard sandy bottom with a gentle slope, good for kids and casual swimmers. Mississippi Lake is known for excellent fishing, so cast a line right from the dock.

- Included watercraft: 2 sit-on-top kayaks and 2 stand-up paddleboards, with life jackets in a few sizes provided
- The pontoon boat and any other watercraft visible on the property are not included in the rental and are not available for rent or use.
- Bring your own boat! Public launches are available in Carleton Place and further along the 9th Line.
- In the warmer months the fenced yard also has a play structure and a trampoline for the kids.

NEARBY (approximate drive times; winter trail and ski spots are listed above)

- Carleton Place (~10–14 min): main street restaurants, cafes and shops, Stalwart and Braumeister breweries, outdoor skating rinks and the November Winterfest night market. Canadian Tire, Walmart, Beer Store, Sobeys and LCBO are all within about 10 minutes.
- Carleton Place Hospital (~10 min)
- Almonte (~25 min): Riverwalk past the falls and historic mills, Mill Street shops and the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum
- Historic downtown Perth (~25 min)
- Kanata (~30 min)
