A LITTLE HISTORY......
“El Chaplón” was a simple house from the late 19th century that was home to a humble family of farmers. Around 1945, it was converted into a small grocery store serving the local community, where customers would stop briefly on their way, tying their pack donkeys to the ring on the facade. Later, it was once again used as a home by a large family. Locals say that back then, the area was known as La Atalaya and that, due to its sunny location, it served as a gathering spot on summer afternoons for neighbors—both adults and children— who would sit on the threshold of the front door to chat and play in the street.
El Sauzal features recreational areas and a network of trails for nature lovers, as well as the beach and the mountains. These include the coastal cliffs, the Los Lavaderos park and lookout point, and the Las Calderetas recreational area…
For food lovers, there’s also a wide range of dining options, from popular “guachinches” to restaurants serving traditional and modern cuisine.
Amenities are less than 2 minutes away, including a pharmacy, health center, bus stop, taxi stand, theater-auditorium, cafes, bakery, bookstore, flower shop, fruit stand, convenience store, restaurants, and more. In addition, there is a daily market with a fruit stand, butcher shop, and fish market
El Sauzal is halfway between Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz and 10 minutes from Los Rodeos Airport.
