Location
The historic town of Conversano is one of Puglia’s lesser-known treasures. The town is dominated by Conversano Castle, which dates back to the 11th Century. The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is also worth a visit. Visitors can soak up the atmosphere in the winding cobbled streets. The town’s market takes place every Friday morning. It is the best place to pick up fresh, local ingredients. For day-to-day shopping, there are several supermarkets in the town.
Polignano A Mare (20 minutes) dates back to the 4th Century BC and is packed with history. Lama Monachile is the town’s most famous beach, and this stretch of coast is known for its pristine beaches and sparkling sea. It is an ideal combination of history, culture and beach life. Down the coast, visitors will find the town of Monopoli (25 minutes), one of Italy’s hidden gems. Known for its lively bars and nightlife, the town’s cathedral and the Castello di Carlo are also worth visiting.
Away from the coast, Alberobello, (30 minutes) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as one of the centres of Italy’s Slow Food Movement. The town is a must-see. It is famous for its traditional Trulli houses and excellent restaurants.
The closest airport is at Bari, a 45-minute drive from the apartment.
