Dorsoduro: History and Authentic Venetian Life
Campo Santa Margherita and San Barnaba are located in the heart of the Dorsoduro district, along the route towards St. Mark’s Square via the Accademia Bridge. The area lies approximately halfway between Piazzale Roma and the Accademia Bridge and is one of the oldest and liveliest parts of Venice.
Next to the beautiful 18th-century Neoclassical church of San Barnaba stands the famous Ponte dei Pugni, once used to settle disputes between rival Venetian factions through fist fights. The winning team was the one that managed to conquer the bridge, while the losers were thrown into the water. In 1585, the so-called War of the Fists took place here, one of the most curious episodes in Venetian history, involving two important local factions: the Nicolotti from San Nicolò dei Mendicoli and the Castellani from San Pietro di Castello.
Dorsoduro already played an important role in ancient Venice. It was in fact one of the first areas of the city to be developed, thanks to the presence of a small island with relatively firm ground, which made it particularly suitable for building homes and artisan workshops.
The Enchantment of Living Venice
“Ea casa de mì2”, just like “Ea casa de mì”, is meant to be much more than simply a place to stay: it is a little retreat in the heart of Venice, a place where you can pause, relax and experience, even for just a few days, the authentic spirit of the city.
Venice is a city that is difficult to describe in words: its places, its silence, its narrow streets and its squares can truly be understood only by experiencing them.
The slow pace of life, the water that accompanies every journey, the people, small shops, bacari and everyday life unfolding all around you come together to make every stay a special experience.
After the long walks that Venice inevitably invites you to take, “Ea casa de mì2” is meant to be that peaceful and welcoming place to return to, relax and feel at home, while taking with you the memory of a truly unique and unforgettable city.
