The Space:
The Deerfoot Inn sits on the banks of the Bushnellsville Creek just outside of Phoenicia. Set in the midst of the Catskills best hiking and ski resorts, you’re right in the heart of mountains here, with the sound of the creek ever present.
Enter through a spacious foyer into the heart of the home: a sweeping dining and living room space anchored by a commanding stone fireplace. The palette runs dark and deliberate, deep tones in the walls and richness in the furnishings. The atmosphere is warm, and suited equally to a formal dinner party and a long, unscheduled evening by the fire.
The chef's kitchen sits just off the main living space, well-equipped for cooking and entertaining a group, and connects directly to the dining area to keep everyone together. The sub-zero fridge and Wolf gas range are indications that this kitchen can handle any recipe. It’s fully outfitted with equipment for whatever you have planned.
A dedicated media room on the main floor features a massive sectional and 75” TV, ideal for a movie night or game day. The main floor also includes a stone-and-tile bathroom with a steam shower and heated floors.
Upstairs, four bedrooms each carry their own distinct personality, with bold wallpaper and design giving every room its own identity. Three guest bedrooms each offer a queen size bed and a dedicated sink and vanity. The primary suite has a king size bed, private seating area, and a private outdoor space with cafe table and loveseat. Its open bath area features a copper clawfoot tub and a ceiling rain shower.
Outside, the grounds are built for a group. A wraparound deck off the kitchen carries a full outdoor kitchen with refrigerator, a propane-plumbed Weber grill, and a dining table sized for the whole party. An outdoor living room with a wraparound couch and projector screen will have you spending your whole evening outdoors in warmer months.
The Deerfoot Inn is a property that earns return visits: stay once, and you may be planning the next trip before the drive home is done.
Guest Access:
Guests can access all areas of the house (apart from an owners locked closet)
The Neighborhood:
Shandaken sits in the heart of Catskills with mountains surrounding the property, yet charming towns and hamlets surround. Find your favorite ski hill or hike, it’s just 15 minutes to Belleayre, or 28 minutes to Hunter, and the Slide and Panther Mountain Wilderness are waiting for you to explore, with trailheads in all directions.
Dash into Phoenicia for its charming main street or the recently revived Town Tinker Tubing on the Esopus. The famous eponymous diner is minutes away. Woodstock is under 30 minutes drive, offering live music, galleries, shopping and great dining options like Silvia, Good Night, or Cucina. Nearby, The Pines is a local watering hole with a classic tavern menu.
Peekamoose Restaurant and Urban Cowboy Lodge offer great dining and drinks just up the road in Big Indian, and are perfect for apres ski after a day at Belleayre.
Deerfoot Inn is centrally located to the Catskills best, whether you’re an avid outdoor enthusiast, or looking for a quiet bite or cocktail.
Getting Around:
Deerfoot Inn is just about 2.5 hrs from New York City, and you'll definitely want a car to get there and around the area.
In the winter, we recommend a car with four-wheel drive that can handle the snow and gravel roads.

BEAR AWARENESS:
Bears are active in this area and are drawn to food smells, so a few simple steps go a long way:
- Rinse out food containers before putting them in the trash
- Keep the garbage can latched and the lid fully closed
- Don't leave trash bags, coolers, or food outside or on the deck
Bears have gotten into the bins here before, so we do appreciate you following these. Thanks for helping us keep the property (and the wildlife) safe!
