## Emplacement
Located at the confluence of the Loire and Erdre rivers, Nantes is a surprising city in Loire-Atlantique, elegantly combining historical heritage and modernity.

In the heart of the old town stands the Château des Ducs de Bretagne, which gave Nantes its nickname, the “City of the Dukes”. This former fortress, easily recognizable by its moat, towers and Breton machicolations, is one of the city’s must-see landmarks. You can discover the Golden Crown Tower, the well decorated with the ducal crown, and the grand residence commissioned by François II, notable for its Gothic dormer windows.

The château also houses the Nantes History Museum, which offers an original way to explore the city through several major periods, from François I to the present day, including its industrial past and current revival.

Nantes is also a pleasant city to explore thanks to its many green spaces. The Île de Versailles, with its Japanese garden and waterfalls, offers a peaceful break. The Jardin des Plantes is also a lovely place to relax, with its rich collection of cacti, water features and plants from Brittany, North America, Asia and Africa.

As you stroll through the historic Bouffay district, you can admire beautiful 18th- and 19th-century buildings, as well as traditional half-timbered houses. For a shopping or gourmet break, head to Passage Pommeraye, a stunning 19th-century covered arcade built over three levels, with shops and restaurants. Its wooden and metal staircase, glass roof and fluted columns make it a place not to be missed.
