The spiral staircase up to it is steep and narrow, and it doesn`t begin until the second-floor porch--accessed either by the home`s exterior elevator or through a second-floor bedroom. The half bath at the top has cozy, duck-your-head ceilings. All of which makes it less of a standard guest room and more of a private perch: a quiet home office or workspace during a longer stay, or exactly the kind of out-of-the-way den the teenage cousins will call dibs on the moment the family arrives.
