Tucked away on a working Lakeland farm near Hawkshead, this charming cottage invites couples and small families to experience countryside living at its most authentic. 1 mile away lies Hawkshead, a postcard-pretty village of cobbled lanes, whitewashed cottages and independent shops. Here you can visit the historic Beatrix Potter Gallery, housed in a 17th-century building. For waterside wanders, Esthwaite Water (3 miles) provides tranquil walking routes and scenic picnic spots, while the western shores of Lake Windermere (4 miles) promise rowing boat hire and leisurely cruises. Walkers will find plenty to tempt them, from the family-friendly ascent of Latterbarrow (2 miles) to the woodland trails and outdoor sculptures of Grizedale Forest (4 miles), a hit with younger explorers.
Inside, the cottage has an open-plan layout designed for sociable stays. The lounge gathers around a traditional open fire, creating a homely atmosphere for film nights or quiet reading, with a TV, DVD and CD player on hand.
